review for me: turning off things like Indomitable & Giant symbol?
I had believed that you could turn off Indomitable and take pushing damage -- by the same logic, could you turn off the Giant symbol and become standard sized?
It's 1:30am and I can't face digging through the rulebook right now. I suspect that you can't turn off the Giant symbol, just as you couldn't turn off the flight symbol and be carried, but that does raise the question of how exactly you could turn off
for further reference, you cannot turn off the or the
you can however turn off the abilities granted by these symbols.
indom grants the willpower type power,
giant grants 2 things, one being giant sized (2 adjaceny for attack, being seen, no carry/knockback) which is NON optional.
the giant stride ability is the other ability, the one that says giants can walk through people and carry, that is optional, so if you turn off giant, thats what you are turning off (same with outwit.)
so u are right in your thinking, in that you cannot turn off and be carried.
the difference is if is on your dial, you cannot be carried, as per the rules. when you cancel indom, you are cancelling the willpower-like ability, so if you turned it off, you would still not be able to benifit from using shellhead (if that makes sense)
hope that helps.

You can cancel abilities unless the ability states otherwise (such as the Giant Size ability).
and are symbols. You can't cancel them. There are a few ways to actually change these symbols during a game, but I don't feel like compiling that list right now.
Indomitable and Giant Size are abilities granted by possession of those symbols, respectively. Indomitable can be canceled because it's an ability and abilities, by default, can be canceled. Giant Size cannot be canceled because, even though it's an ability, its description specifically states it cannot be countered or canceled.
giant grants 2 things, one being giant sized (2 adjaceny for attack, being seen, no carry/knockback) which is NON optional.
Being just a little nit-picky here, but the giant size does not grant 2 adjacency for attack. Giants can make close combat attacks up to two squares away, but it has nothing to do with adjacency.
Here's the text for giant size:
Quote
GIANT SIZE (non-optional) This character can’t be
knocked back and ignores other characters’ Force Blast and Plasticity
powers. This ability can’t be countered or canceled.
Close combat attacks. This character can make close
combat attacks against elevated characters, even when this character
is grounded. This character can also make close combat attacks
against target opposing characters up to two squares away, even if
a character (friendly or opposing) or an object occupies a square
between this character and the target; the attack can’t be made if
blocking terrain, elevated terrain, or a wall would block an otherwise
clear line of fire between this character and the target.
Ranged combat attacks. Characters with the
symbol do not block line of fire to or from this character. This
character and a character on elevated terrain draw line of fire and
make ranged combat attacks against each other as if they were both
elevated, but terrain effects (such as the hindering terrain modifier)
still apply normally.
All feats are optional, so you can cancel the Pym Particles feat. The result is no more giant symbol.
Well almost all feats are optional.
ATAs are not optional (that is, they cannot be canceled to gain access to the original team ability. The use of the team ability however is still optional).
Coordination is not Optional.
Some are also semi-optional:
Sidekicks Carrying restriction is not optional.
And some are super Optional for no explicable reason:
Such as Protected.
