IF there's going to be Halo, Buffy, video games, etc... they should be 100% compatible. I won't buy a similar system. We bought starters for Halo and Horrorclix, but never any boosters. If they came out with alternative licensed products, and they worked with my clix collection, then I would consider spending my hard earned cash.
"Well, it is a cute idea. I am sure that some comic geek will like it. I hope they are thinking that it will be a one shot game and not waste money into trying to mass produce it into multiple boosters. There is no way it will be as challenging as MageKnight."
I quote from a friend of mine who was laughing at me for taking up Heroclix and not Mageknight.
To this day I wonder what the Mage Knight player response was to Heroclix.
I was a MageKnight player. The only MK I bought after Infinity Challange was the Apocalypse Dragon, I got him for $40 @ Gencon in 2008. All my MK are in boxes gathering dust on a shelf.
Well who knows where Mage Knight would be if it didn't shoot itself in the foot with 2.0. (And no, heroclix hasn't gone through a true 2.0 since you can still play an Infinity challenge piece with an HoT piece. It may not be as effective, but still compatible, unlike a Mage Knight 1.0 and 2.0 fig.) But on the same note, I believe action and horrorclix would have been much more popular if they were heroclix compatible. They at least would have made a few extra bucks from me.

Huh, that's pretty close to my original reaction to Mage Knight. But then I've been a hard-core miniatures gamer for decades...MK didn't really have a lot to offer that I couldn't get elsewhere. Heroclix, on the other hand, was the FIRST real miniatures game for superheroes, especially with the licensed properties. There were RPGs and games like Aberrant, but Heroclix filled a void.
I was actually working on my own 28mm superhero game when Heroclix first came out, because there wasn't anything covering that aspect of miniatures gaming. I'd been working on it for about 6-8 months. It was going to be a points-based system, that you could use to build your take on comic characters or your own creations. I was ecstatic to see someone actually publishing a game for 28mm superheroes. And as a bonus, they actually got licensed characters. I was blown away.
CarlosMucha: that is like be running in a Olimpic race competition just one step to get the gold and then a Giant children place a mirror in your side and you discover what you are really a hamster over a whell and the gold is just a slice of chess. Avatar Summoning: Original GotG, Melter, Whiplash

"Heroes?
We don't need no stinking HEROES!!
Oh wait! A Clix game based on Comic book heroes!
OOOOHHHHHH!!
Are they compatible with Mage Knight?
I mean, I won't play that unless they are completely compatible!
Can you imagine Superman flying in to fight my werewolf army?
Like he would beat them. I mean, they get stronger the more you hit them.
As if."

Sorry, I felt that the "valley girl" sentiment was apropos.
Many of the same arguments that are spawned (Pun intended) by the HeroClix community about other Clix spin-offs were also championed (another pun intended - I really need to stop with these silly puns) by the Mage Knight community.
Interestingly, the one sect of MK fans that I didn't see as much complaining from was the MK Dungeons sect. Some of them thought it would be fun to take comic heroes through their dungeons.
Of course they are a strange megalomaniacal bunch and would be happy for anyone to suffer their dungeon minions!

There are two rules to success in life:
1. Don't tell people everything you know.
2.
A guy I knew played MageKnight - he hated the idea of HeroClix. I never really understood why. He would just snort "HeroClix!" and throw an empty Coke can at the wall.
i would so use a grave digger to bring back the HoT Cap. provided the starting damage d6 roll wasnt that bad that is.
I thought it was great with heroclix when it first came out, is that it was a good idea to appeal to a broader comic based audience.
The only thing that i thought was odd was why did they decide to overblow the pointcost values. early on a 300pt army in Mageknight got you a decient amount of figs. half of your points got you 6 tough Amotep Gunners with a few points under for the other half. What did 300pts get you in Heroclix? A Thanos, Vet Firelord, and an Exp Hydra Medic.
Years ago, a ten piece army looked better than a team of only three. As well originaly i didnt like the concept of the map as it was a game that you couldnt pull out of a backpack and play while drinking a coffee at Tim Hortons. It only took me a few games with the map to realize that one of the best things to happen was wizkids getting rid of the dependancy of that damn measuring tape.

The problem with this kind of thinking is that it assumes that the heroclix adaptation of the clix dial is the best and only version that there should be.
An example: If Haloclix, in creating the feel of the video game, works best with a mechanism that isn't fully compatible with heroclix, then turning it into heroclix is a bad idea. If there's enough of a market from Halo fans, the game should try to be the best HALO game it can be first, and marketed to Halo fans first. The use of weapons, for instance, and the ability to swap them out, SHOULD be different in HALO than it is in HERO.
If they want to make a HEROclix collector set with Halo characters, fine and dandy, but that might be different from the ideal Halo clix game.
