Ok, I've been playing clix for quite a while now, and I'm pretty good as far as the rules go. However, I'll be honest, giants still confuse the hell out of me and most of my play group. It seems like every game I play where there's a giant on the board, a new question comes up that I'm not sure what the answer to is. I'd like to outline a few situations and hopefully get some concrete answers to these questions.
Scenario 1: General adjacency involving giants. When I started playing, I was always told that giants are considered adjacent 2 squares away. After actually reading the rules though, this doesn't seem to be the case. My first question is if opposing characters are actually considered adjacent to a giant 2 squares away, ie; would need to stop their movements 2 squares away, can make close combat attacks from 2 squares, etc. I'm also assuming this would work the same way for characters friendly to giant figures, ie; with Atom Smasher, could he use the JSA team ability to share defense with others from 2 squares away.
Scenario 2: Giants and elevated terrain. This seems to be what gives me the most problems. Lets say there's a character on the edge of elevated terrain, and a giant on grounded terrain "next" to each other. Are these considered adjacent? Can they both make close combat attacks against one another? Can either make a ranged attack against the other one? If there is another character behind the first on the elevated terrain, can the giant "reach over" the first one to hit the other with a close combat attack as they would be able to if they we're all on grounded terrain? Can the 2nd character on the elevated terrain use ranged combat attacks on the the giant with a friendly piece between them?
Now lets say there's a character on the edge of elevated terrain and a giant on grounded terrain 2 squares away. The giant can still make close combat attacks against the elevated character, correct? Can the elevated character make close combat attacks against the giant?
Hopefully most of this is clear enough to understand, and I'll gladly try to clarify anything that seems confusing. Thanks in advance to anyone who made it through this giant wall of text and/or can answer any of these questions for me.

They were that way until recently when they changed.

No to all of those.
EDIT: Adding clarity.
There is no adjacency created at all for anything. The rules allow close combat attacks to be made by giants against figures both two squares away and on elevated terrain.

They are not adjacent.
EDIT: Adding some other things to consider.
Neither can Poison the other.
Neither one, when hit by Energy Explosion, will splash the other.

Can they both make close combat attacks against one another?
No. Only the giant can make close combat attacks against the other guy.

Can either make a ranged attack against the other one?
Yes. Both can use ranged attacks against the other...and even against figures further away, because there is no adjacency.

Yes. Reaching around is totally allowed.

If the middle guy is a figure, then this is fine.

Yes.

Can the elevated character make close combat attacks against the giant?
No.
Edit: Also note the following additional changes or important things to note.
Giants can now carry a friendly figure when given a MOVE action while having no action tokens.
Giants ignore figures during movement.
Terrain affects the LoF normally...ie, that gumball machine between Giant Man and Cyclops will add +1 to defense either way.
Thank you very much, that pretty much clears everything up. The group I play are all fairly casual players, but I think we all learned how to play at different times and taught by people who didnt keep track of all the rules changes, which seem to be fairly frequent in this game. I've been doing my best to make sure we're all on the same page when it comes to rules issues, and this goes a long way in clearing up a ton of confusing situations.

I'm very familiar with this effect. Just when I learned the rules for soaring and went to my first tournament the people there told me that soaring was gone from the game along with the ability for fliers to make ranged attacks even when based. So basically I learned some rules and had to immediately unlearn them.
