Jade ran through the halls of the Oan complex, bursting into the cafeteria and shoving through the throng of Lanterns at the entrance. The smells of foods prepared to the specifications of Corpsmen from literally thousands of galaxies assaulted her nostrils in that way that should have been unpleasant yet she somehow enjoyed. But she couldn’t dwell on the slight rumbling in her stomach - she had to find Hal.
“So then, this poozer thinks of a brilliant plan,” Kilowog bellowed, half laughing as he slapped Hal’s back. The two were sitting at a long table, telling stories with about a dozen other Lanterns as they had their lunch.
“It was brilliant!” Hal insisted.
“Just ‘cause it came outta your head doesn’t mean it was any good,” Kilowog guffawed. “In fact, that usually means it ain’t!”
“It worked, didn’t it?”
“This friggin’ guy rings up some robes and claims to be a rep of the Shailah Go!”
“It worked!”
“Not even for a second, kid,” Kilowog laughed, barely holding himself together. “I can’t believe you didn’t realize green was the color of their trickster guild - you might as well’ve said ‘Hi, I’m completely full of gunkoo!’”
Jade pushed through as the other Lanterns erupted in laughter.
“Well, it distracted him long enough for me to take him out,” Hal shrugged.
“Yeah, with another a’ yer famous boxing gloves. Yer an original, poozer, that’s for sure.”
“I’d like to see you do better,” Hal said, noticing Jade. “Jenny - something up?”
“Katma’s in trouble.”
_______________________________________
In moments, they were rushing the hallways on their way out of the citadel.
“And you found out about this how, again?” Hal asked.
“I told you, I’ve just got this… really strong gut feeling,” she said, trying yet again to explain it. “I just got this compulsion, like Katma and G’nort are in major trouble. John Stewart too, I think.”
“Stewart? How’s he involved in this?”
“I don’t know, but I checked with Salaak and her last mission brief sent her and Tomar to the world John’s reclamation project was working on. Tomar came back, but she didn’t. The file says she stayed on-mission, but…”
“But she hasn’t checked in since,” Hal finished for her as they reached an exit and took flight. “And you’re gut is leading you to them?”
“It’s sort of-- it’s like… have you ever had a dream that felt so real you had to ask people if it actually happened? It’s like that. It’s like I’m there with them, on some level, and… just trust me, okay? I can feel them calling for me, and I can get us there.”
Hal paused as they left Oa’s atmosphere and looked back at her.
“This is a Starheart thing, isn’t it?”
“Yeah. Kinda, yeah,” she sighed. “I didn’t wanna say, because I thought you’d call it stupid mystic hooey being used as an excuse for my girlish nervousness.”
“Well…” he started, thinking as he nodded. “It probably still is. But better safe than sorry.”
“Great,” she exhaled in relief. “So come on, already!”
“Fine. But if you’re wrong about this, Jen…”
“Yeah, yeah - no more Starheart stuff while you’re around.”
“Do you think it’s working?” Katma asked, leaning close to John so she wouldn’t distract Fatality.
“Don’t you? What do your eyes tell you? I can practically feel it working.”
They both watched, G’nort hovering behind them nervously, as Fatality stood stock still and clutched fists covered in power rings that were all but empty. As her body stood tensed, energy was literally wafting off of her skin in waves. It dripped upward into the sky like inverted water drops. John was right - she could feel the power flowing through the girl’s body and out into space. It was working.
Katma had been incredibly reluctant to let Fatality use the remaining rings to send out a distress call, but after days of survival on the deserted planet, John had convinced her that they needed to try now while the rings still had enough juice in their reserves to give them a chance in hell of it still working at all.
To her surprise, the only thing harder than convincing her had been convincing Fatality. She seemed genuinely uninterested in wearing a ring again. She masked it behind the veil of wanting them all to die here, but Katma had detected a distinct nervousness about putting the rings back on.
Watching her now, though, was a revelation. What the girl was doing should have been impossible; she was coaxing power out of even the rings that had been completely drained. It’s like she was drawing power out of the ether by sheer will alone. And the power was different, as well. The pure green seemed tinted by the midnight sky, as it cast a slight blue-violet glow in places. It gave their camp a moody blue-green illumination that was actually quite beautiful. When Katma turned her head to tell John, she was surprised at how close he was to her. She stared at him a moment, forgetting what she had wanted to say, and then turned back to the girl doing the unthinkable.
Their mortal enemy was calling their friends for help.
“We should have somebody coming our way soon,” John said. She could hear the smile on his voice and feel his presence close to him. Her heart leapt and she forced it back down. Why was she suddenly having such a hard time controlling her feelings? She watched the lights play against the leaves of the trees, watched the shadows dancing with the firelight and the ring glow against the forest floor, and she felt tears in her eyes at the beauty.
She risked a look back, and from the looks on John and G’nort’s faces, they were feeling it, too. She looked again at Fatality and saw the girl’s expression had changed from pain to a sort of serenity. They were all feeling it, then. Something special was happening, here. How bizarre it was that it was this murderous sociopath at the center of it all.
The light slowly faded and Fatality collapsed to the ground. G’nort was by her side instantly, catching her in his furry arms and lowering her gently. He fussed over her with sad ears and a lowered tail until she stirred and opened her eyes.
“It’s… done…” she whispered.
“Thank you, Yrra,” John said. He and Katma knelt by her side and he had taken her hand.
“Wh-whatever. You can… have the rings back… Kill you without them… later…”
“That’s not what I was doing,” he smiled. “I know you didn’t want to do that. I know it hurt you. I know you’d rather me and my friends die here. I want you to believe me when I say thank you.”
“You have no idea… no idea what it’s like t-to feel everything,” she whispered, staring at him with cold eyes. “To be a child, lonely and far from home and everything you love, and suddenly feel the pain of every death of an… an entire w-world… all at once…”
“I understand probably better than anyone ever will,” John said earnestly, squeezing her limp hand. She didn’t take it away.
“K-kranth-shakk,” she sneered slightly, laying her head back in the grass and staring at the stars. “I’m n-not talking… ab… about a metaphor. I. Felt. Everything. I still feel it, now. The dead… the dying… you and y-your bicha girlfriend… I can’t ever turn it off. I will always carry them with me. Forever.”

John let her sleep, standing with Katma at the edge of their camp and looking out.
“I think we were successful,” Katma said. She shuddered a bit and rubbed her arms, surprised at the cold.
John took off the jacket of his Agri-Corps uniform and wrapped the faded, time-worn garment around her shoulders. She tried to shrug it off, but he insisted.
“The rings are dead,” he said, rubbing her shoulders momentarily to warm her. “You have to stay warm on your own, now, and I’m guessing my coveralls are warmer than your uniform, even without the jacket.”
“…Thanks,” she said. She studied his eyes for just a fraction of a second, but held the memory in her mind. She remembered that it was not so very long ago that she thought of this man as the Butcher of Xanshi. Now she had risked her life to defend him from a girl who wanted to kill him for the crimes Katma no longer believed him capable of.
“She’s an empath,” he said. “A genuine one, I think.”
“I didn’t think Xanshi produced any empathics? They were psi-neutral, according to record.”
“Well… one was finally born, apparently. And from the way she’s talking, she could be a more powerful empath than anybody ever catalogued. No wonder she lost her mind after what happened. Can you imagine literally being able to feel the anguish of everyone you loved dying at once?”
Katma could only stare in silence. It explained what they felt at the fire - she was projecting through the rings. And the more they believed, the more she picked up on their confidence and the better the rings worked. The more peaceful they became, the more peaceful she felt, then projecting a field of peacefulness back at them to create a feedback loop of serenity.
“Amazing…” she said. “And terrible. To have such a gift and be trained as a fighter? To have such ability and be made into a weapon? I thought she was a sociopath, but she’s the opposite. She’s crazed because she feels too much.”
“We’re going to have to keep watches,” he said, changing the subject after a long, silent moment. “Without the rings, we’re vulnerable like we’ve never been. Yrra’s going to be out cold for a while too, I think. Recovering from tonight.”
“How long before someone gets our signal, do you think?” she asked.
“Don’t know. Normally, with those rings as weak as they were, I’d say up to a week or more - we’re lightyears away from the nearest inhabited system, and forever away from Oa. But the way that girl was cranking out the power like she did… it might just be days.”
“We’re going to live through this,” she said. “I had trusted we would find a way, but now I’m sure. There is-- a lot of comfort in certainty.”
“That’s why we convince ourselves of things that aren’t true,” he said, probably to nobody in particular. “We’d rather be comfortably certain of a lie than live with knowing how little we know.”
“You know,” Katma grinned a little, “Somebody pretty smart tried to tell you that, not long ago.”
He smiled back. “Yeah, she had a good head on her shoulders, that one. Shame I’m too thick to listen, most times.”
“Are you listening now?”
“Maybe. I was ready to die, Katma. I had opened my arms and practically begged that little girl to kill me. Begged. You can’t know what it’s like to reach that level in your life. But… things are different now. I don’t know why it changed, but it did.”
“On Korugar there’s something we believe,” she said, touching his arm. “Beregan to marahl, lon tale mos tas eregona. It translates roughly to ‘for one to live, his demon must die.’ Maybe Fata-- maybe Yrra killed your demon, and now you’ve come back alive again. In a manner of speaking.”
“Might be,” he nodded. He looked down at her and took her hand, squeezing it gently. “Thank you, Kat. For rescuing me; for letting me try and get through to that girl, to help her; for watching over all of us here while I took stupid risks to try and open her eyes. This can’t be easy for you, but here you are. Thank you.”
“You… are welcome,” she said, squeezing his hand in return. “You may want to help that girl find healing, but… I’ve only wanted to help you.”
“I know. So you can have me on your Honor Guard,” he grinned.
“Not for that, no,” she smiled back. “Though I meant what I said when I made the offer. But I only want… sometimes the clouds in you part and I can see who you must have been before your sadness. I only want you to have clear skies again.”
“Clear skies,” he smiled and nodded, relaxing. “I like that. You have a poetic soul, Katma Tui.”
She just smiled in return, feeling like a foolish schoolgirl for blushing and hoping he hadn’t seen. Their hands parted, but their fingers still touched lightly. She hoped he noticed as well.

“There it is,” he spoke to his men in the Combat Information Center at the heart of the flagship of the Black Circle fleet.
“Sir?” one asked.
“There-- that’s him,” he nodded, pointing to a barely perceptible spike in luminal energy readings on one of the radar screens. “That’s Jordan.”
“Sir, if I may-- are you sure? There’s barely any--“
“First, Captain, never ask a question if you aren’t going to wait for the answer - which in this case is ‘No, you may not.’ Second, what I know about Oan power rings probably outstrips the knowledge you have in all your areas of expertise combined. I have studied their flight-trail signatures extensively, and have planned every aspect of this mission to the smallest detail. So trust me when I tell you I know what I’m looking at, and that is Hal Jordan’s energy signature.”
“Then he got the signal,” another said, slamming a fist to the large information management table. “Everything’s going as planned.”
“Of course it is,” He sneered. “We stranded them on this world, far from the purview of the Guardians and lightyears from help. We gave them the limited resources of their dead power rings, leaving them the choice of dying alone in the wilderness or calling for help. Psych profiling showed the woman would reach out to either Hal Jordan or the new girl, Jennifer Hayden. Even if she called Hayden, the child would have immediately involved Jordan anyway. And with Jordan in charge of the rescue, we’re assured he’s come alone.”
“--So no other Lanterns will even know he’s here,” the Captain smiled.
“And they’ll all be dead at my feet before any other help could ever arrive,” he nodded in agreement. “After all these years, all the time spent studying, learning, planning-- finally, Hal Jordan will be dead. But I aim to make him suffer first. Oh, there will be suffering.”
He turned and shouted his orders. “Helmsman! Make the jump. When their backup arrives I want us on their heels.”

“There they are,” Jenny said, pointing ahead.
“Yeah, my ring’s got them. I’m reading four sentients, though - they must have picked up a hitch-hiker.”
The two landed on the trail in front of John, Katma, G’nort and the girl with them, and Hal had to smile at the tattered clothes they wore.
“What’s this,” he laughed. “Land of the lost? Robinson Crusoe you ain’t, pal.”
“Hal Jordan,” John shouted with a wide smile. “You son of a b#tch!”
They clasped hands and their arms tensed, lightly arm-wrestling. Hal smirked at John as he tried getting the upper hand.
“What’s the matter?” he taunted. “Agri-corps got you pushing too many pencils?”
They broke the hand-lock and embraced, clapping each other on the back and laughing with relief.
“Man, you’ve got no idea how good it is to see your face.”
“Wow, you must’ve really had it hard out here if I’m looking good to you.”
“Hey, you ain’t looking that good,” John laughed. “Just better than usual.”
“How’re you putting up with this chump, Kat?” Hal asked, looking to where Jen and Katma were hugging. Jenny separated from the older woman to scratch the spot under G’nort’s arm that made his back leg start kicking uncontrollably. He didn’t seem to mind, dropping to his back for more.
“I’ve managed,” she shrugged. “He’s a lot easier to deal with than you, Jordan.”
“I’m hurt,” Hal mocked. Patting John’s shoulder, he turned to his friend and shook his head. “Y’know, I think you might’ve gotten the worse end of this, buddy.”
“Not even close,” John smiled, looking over to Katma.
“So who’s the girl?” Hal asked, changing the subject as he walked toward the sullen young woman standing to the side.
“Yrra Cynril,” John said. “Survivor of Xanshi. She’s been helping us survive, here. She was the one who was able to contact you when the rest of our rings were dead.”
“Oh my goodness,” Jen said sympathetically. “I’m so-- I can’t imagine… If there’s anything we can do for you--“
“You can die slowly,” Yrra spat.
“Got a mouth on her, don’t she?” Hal raised an eyebrow.
“It’s complicated,” John said cautiously.
“I’ll bet. So your rings are dead? Why no power battery, Kat?”
“The rings were drained to exhaustion by ships of the Black Circle,” she said. “By the time we used them to land safely here, they lacked the power to summon our batteries. It was all we could do just to survive - it took the last of the reserves to send the distress signal.”
“Well, we’ll have to cart you around then, won’t we? Alright, let’s get--“
Hal was interrupted by the sound of engines screaming through the sky and explosions racing toward them. He threw up a shield as the bomb blasts pelted the ground all around them, protecting everyone from the fire and debris.
“Gods,” Katma said, pointing. “Those are Black Circle ships! Hal, watch it - they can drain your power ring’s energy.”
“How? That doesn’t make sense.”
“It doesn’t, but it’s true. It’s why we’re here like this now.”
“Maybe they’re like those robots,” Jen offered. “The ones that sucked out ring energy?”
“The Manhunters?” Hal asked, deflecting another salvo and guiding everyone into the cover of the thick canopy of trees nearby. “But that was Guardian tech. Nobody else would have access…”
“However it works, it’s devastating,” Katma said as they ran deeper into the woods. “They have an impossible number of unmanned drone fighters equipped with ring-draining weaponry.”
“Drones, huh,” Hal said. “They’d need a controller.”
“There is a flagship,” she nodded. “But it’s immense and probably--“
“I’m on it,” Hal smirked. “You stay safe here, I’m going after that ship.”
“It’s too dangerous on your own!” John said. “They’ll strip you dry and leave you to suffocate in space.”
“Then I’ll bring Jen. Come on, kid - let’s use some of that Starheart mojo of yours.”
“Oh, so whenever you need me, it’s ‘let’s use your awesome powers, Jen,’ but when you don’t, it’s ‘quit blabbing on about that magic cr#p, Jen.’ You’re impossible!”
“No, kid-- I do the impossible. Come on.”
“You’re just going to leave us here?” Katma asked. “If they keep bombing--“
“They won’t,” Hal said. “They won’t be able to track you through the trees, and they won’t waste bombs on you down here when we’re making more noise up there.”
“How do you know they’ll follow you?”
“Hey - trust me!” he winked. Katma just frowned, but he was already flying away.
_______________________________________
As Hal barreled out from the trees, he started using his ring to scrape off rock from the mountains nearby and hurl them at the fighter drones. The ships were incredibly fast and nimble, but he clipped and crashed three of them in his first pass.
“So, like, do we even have a plan, here?” Jen asked, following his lead and tossing boulders of her own.
“Of course,” he said, pouring on speed and trying to get the fighters to follow him. “Chase down the flagship, find the transmitter for the drones, and blow it up.”
“Oh, is that all,” she laughed sarcastically, turning and blasting at a bomber squadron. It seemed to attempt to drain off the energy from her blast, but it didn’t look to be completely successful as ripples of green electricity still penetrated and damaged its hull. It wasn’t destroyed, but it was hurt.
“Hey, I think my powers still work on these!” she exclaimed.
“Tough, kid - we aren’t here to fight all these one-on-one. Come on!”
They broke through the atmosphere with multiple wings of fighters on their heels. Hal was pushing to keep his shields in tact as the fighters kept stripping them with every round of attack. If he was feeling the heat, he wasn’t letting it show; but he was having to do a lot of maneuvering to dodge the blaster barrage being launched at him every time his shields slipped.
Jen wasn’t struggling as much. It seemed to take three or four times the effort for the fighters to strip her shields, and they seemed more vulnerable to her attacks. She took point on their defense, freeing Hal up to scout out the flagship.
It didn’t turn out to be difficult to find. It was the only dreadnaught-class cruiser in the fleet, dwarfing the next largest ship by more than double its size.
“That’s a big ship,” Hal said. Jen just nodded agreement, more nervous about the swarming squadrons of drone fighters pouring out of the carriers that surrounded the flagship.
“Here goes nothing,” he said, taking off for their target. “Don’t get cocky, kid - mystic hoodoo or no, there’s enough of those fighters out here to swarm you and kill you easy as that.”
“So what are we going to do?”
“They can’t fight us from inside the flagship. We’re gonna blast our way in and destroy the drone control tower from the inside out.”
She just winced and followed in his wake. Avoid the hard fight outside by wading through god-only-knew how many soldiers inside what looked to be a mile-long capitol ship. It was definitely a Hal Jordan plan.
_______________________________________
“I wish he was here to see this,” Katma said as she ducked back behind the tree. A squad of Black Circle fighters had dropped down to try and flush them out of the forest, and now the group was taking cover behind the immense tree trunks to avoid the assault-rifle fire from the pirate-soldiers.
“Who, Hal?” John asked.
“Precisely,” she gritted her teeth. “Then he’d be there to witness his being wrong in person.”
“Nah, wouldn’t work,” John smiled. “He’d just find a way to wriggle out of the noose. Haven’t you heard? Hal Jordan’s never wrong!”
Their banter was interrupted by a loud scream and the sounds of combat. They looked around quickly and saw G’nort shrugging as he apparently was trying to dig himself an escape route. Fatality was nowhere to be found.
“How did we lose her?” Katma asked, ducking out to see what had happened. To her surprise, there were four dead Black Circle men and Fatality standing at the center.
“We caught a break,” John said, walking quickly to where the girl stood.
“Are you finished being cowards now, or shall I kill everyone they send for you on your behalf? I’m getting tired of having to hold off predators so I can take your life myself.”
“We’re gonna fight back,” John said, checking one man’s assault rifle and grabbing extra clips. “Did you take any hits?”
“From these thugs?” she said, incredulous. “Never. Their numbers are their only advantage.”
“And their weapons,” Katma said, picking up a rifle of her own.
“Weapons are only an advantage if you are weak enough to need one. I am all the weapon I ever need.”
“Says the girl with the shock-staff,” Katma smirked.
“I am confident because I know my training and the lengths of my ability,” Fatality shot back. “But I’m not stupid. One doesn’t enter a fight with Green Lanterns with only her fists.”
“But against automatic rifles…”
“In the hands of these second-rate bandits? Less than useless.”
“Fine,” John interrupted. “We need to find their landing craft. With that, we can fly out there and rendezvous with Hal and Jenny, then take off with them before anybody knows we aren’t Circle.”
“And if that doesn’t work?” Katma asked. “If Hal and Jennifer can’t break away or have gone into the flagship?”
“Why would they attempt an assault on the Black Circle flagship?” Fatality asked.
“You don’t know Hal Jordan,” Katma sighed. “At the first sign of difficulty, it’s probably exactly where he’d go.”
“Then we use their own landing ship to fly right in the front doors and meet up with them on the inside,” John said. “Either way, we’re sitting ducks down here. I figure we’re only alive because they want to take us alive for some reason, but it’s only a matter of time before they change their minds and just bomb the hell out of this whole area.”
“There are more soldiers out there looking for us,” Katma said.
“And that’s why we’ve got these guns and Yrra’s skill.”
“You assume I would help you?” she sneered.
“I assume you want to live. I assume that you’re smart enough to know we have to be in this together or we’ll all wind up dead, and as much as you say you don’t I think you do want to survive, even if you don’t want me to.”
He stood and looked her in the eyes. “Yrra, whatever you feel, know that I don’t want anything to hurt you. I know what you think of me, and I don’t think it’s undeserved, but that doesn’t matter to me. I want you to make it through this okay, and I want you to have a life again when it’s done. A real life. I don’t know how to help with that, because I’ve pretty much quit my own life until now - but I do know you won’t have that chance if you die here today.”
“You don’t--“ she started, but he stepped closer and put her hand on his heart.
“I know you can feel what I’m feeling,” he said, his voice shaking slightly with the depth of his concern, but not from any weakness or fear. He wanted to make her listen-- he needed to make her hear him. “You tried to turn your gift off after Xanshi because you couldn’t stand the feelings you had. You tried to turn it all into rage and hatred. But it’s still in you to feel the truth in me, to know me the way only someone like you can. And you know I’m telling you the truth.
“I don’t expect you to ever forgive me for what I cost you when I failed your people. I don’t expect I’ll ever forgive myself. But you have to stop torturing yourself for something you couldn’t do. You wish you had died with your family. You survived, and you hate yourself for it. You have got to let that go and live again, or else die here and now. Because hate won’t sustain a heart that quit living any more than guilt will. You and me both, we’ve got to stop dying and start walking forward again. And it starts here, or it never will.”
He looked in her eyes and held her gaze, knowing from the tears she was fighting that he’d been right.
“Forgive yourself, and fight for your life,” he said. “If you still want me dead when it’s done… I’ll hand you the knife myself.”
There was a long tense silence as she battled within herself. Her body trembled and he could feel her pulse through her hand on his chest. The tears she refused wrote the paths of streams across her round cheeks. She clenched and unclenched her jaw, trying to both understand the choice before her and to somehow decide.
But the decision was taken from her when gunfire strafed across the forest floor, tearing at bark and sending leaves in the air. They all leapt behind cover and John checked his rifle again. He leaned out from the tree and saw the men advancing on them. He had no choice left.
_______________________________________
Hal and Jen blasted through the last doors leading to the control tower. It had been easier to get there than they’d expected; too easy. The farther they got, the more nervous she became that something terrible was waiting just around the corner. And then they arrived at the control tower, and entry was as easy as blowing the doors open with their power. On the other side, they came up short. It was pretty much as she expected.
Someone was waiting for them.
He clapped slowly as he stood from his seat and started walking forward into the overhead light.
“I’m so glad it worked out this way,” he said with a smile. “Don’t get me wrong, I’ve worked very hard on my ego; I was perfectly willing to kill you through the cold mechanics of these lovely new weapons I was given. But still-- killing you in person, face to face? This is going to be so much more satisfying!”
“Do I know you?” Hal asked, his ring flaring and ready.
“Not directly, no. Indirectly, though? Indirectly, you stole the entire meaning of my life. Your Corps stole the life of my father, which I could almost have lived with if he’d died a hero, but he didn’t. And then you stole his legacy and denied me the future I’d been training myself for my whole life. I want it back.”
“You…” Hal looked at him closely, studying the man’s features. The red skin, the clean, bald head, those eyes. “I don’t know what you think I did to you, but…”
“I didn’t expect you to know who I was - you never cared about the people you stepped on on your way up, so why start now? And honestly, I do take more after my mother. But the story you know quite well, I think. After all, it’s your secret origin, isn’t it?”
Hal’s ring flared. “Alright, look-- I don’t know you and I don’t care about whatever sob story turned you into a murdering lunatic. All I care about is shutting you down and--“
“Shut up!” he shouted, suddenly violently angry. “All you ever do is talk! And you never care about anyone’s life but your own! You may be the hero in your own head, but I’ve watched you. I’ve studied you for your entire career. I mean, hey-- maybe being denied my birthright would turn out okay if the man who stole it was worthy-- was a real hero. The greatest Green Lantern of them all. But you aren’t - you’re arrogant, you’re reckless, you’re-- you’re-- you’re an a##! You don’t deserve the ring you stole from my father, and I’m taking it back!”
“From…” Hal swallowed, suddenly realizing. “Abin? You’re Abin’s…”
“Amon Sur,” he shouted. “The rightful bearer of that ring on your hand. The ring my father died for. The ring that should have been mine, but instead was taken by a brainless Earth-monkey.”
“You’re with the Black Circle?!” Hal asked, trying to piece it together in his head.
“I am the Black Circle!” Amon shouted with a smile and a laugh. “I built them from nothing into the largest criminal empire in civilized space! And it was all for this-- for this! Oh, sure, there were surprises along the way. The money, the women, the power… that was better than I’d expected. And there were times I let myself be distracted. But it was all ultimately for the singular purpose of taking back what my father had promised me before he was used up and killed by the Green Lantern Corps and grave-robbed by Hal f###ing Jordan!”
“This is… it’s…” Hal faltered for words. “It’s… pathetic! I can’t believe Abin Sur’s kid devoted his life to building a criminal empire just because he didn’t get his dad’s job.”
“Are you honestly mocking me?” Amon shouted in disbelief.
“No, you’re mocking yourself. This is-- you can’t see how pathetic this is? Abin Sur was a great man. A great man. His ring chose me to succeed him, and I’ve worked hard to be deserving of that honor. But you? You became a d#mn space-pirate. Wow. And all just to get this ring back? That’s sad. I’m not even angry - I pity you.”
“P-pp-- Shut up!” he screamed, raising his fists as paired weapons extended from where they had been folded compactly over his forearms. Bright glows emanated from in their barrels and he fired a pair of shots. Hal had a barrier up in an instant, but the blasts melted through like they weren’t even there and scathed his shoulder and torso.
“You like that?!” Amon laughed maniacally. “Part of the Black Circle’s new weapon suite. Built from Manhunter tech, but advanced and redesigned. It was a gift from a friend, and now I’m thinking I’ll regift it to you.”
Hal tried to blast him back, but the emerald shot warped as it approached Amon’s body. It curved and twisted into a pair of capacitors on his shoulders as if being sucked into a black hole.
“Your powers are useless here,” Amon said. “I’ve covered every angle. You can’t win!”
“Yeah, well,” Hal said, formulating a plan. “It’s still two of us against one of you. And this kid here’s the Starheart, so…”
“Great, now he believes in me,” Jenny said, flaring her powers in an emerald blaze around her.
“Nnnnyeah, uh, no,” Amon clicked his tongue. “Remember that ‘working on my ego’ thing? I want you dead so bad I don’t care if I get to do it on my own or not.”
All around them, Black Circle soldiers came rushing into the room. Each was equipped with the same weapons as Amon and ready for a fight.
“Today’s the day you die, Hal Jordan,” Amon Sur smiled.

--> The game is split into two halves, and the dividing line is along squares 12-13. The ground team fights the Black Circle in the northern section of the map while Hal and Jade battle Amon Sur in the southern section. No figure may cross the boundaries separating the sections of the map.
Additionally, when setting up, characters may only choose from the right or left sides of the map, not top or bottom.
--> Amon Sur is protected by mysterious tech devices which absorb and deflect the energy of a Green Lantern’s power ring, though it is slightly less effective against the Starheart.
Amon Sur is not affected by the following powers: RCE, TK, Energy Explosion, Pulse Wave or Perplex. If Jennifer-Lynn Hayden attempts to use one of these powers against him, roll 1d6. On a roll of 5-6, the power is successful.
--> The Skrull TA, Stealth, Shape Change, and Outwit powers on any member of the Black Circle represents the ability of their tech to counter GL power rings. So if a target can’t be attacked because of a roll of the Skrull TA or Shape Change, it’s because their tech disrupted and ignored the power ring. Ditto Stealth or Outwit.

what? like you have a little baby or something?!...
a couple notes:
I've removed the point values of the villains, as well as some instructions regarding set-up; you've placed both Hal and Jade as well as Katma/Batgirl outside the marked starting areas for this map... which probably won't make much difference after the first moves...
What about number of actions per turn? Hal and Jade should get three, while the top should get two, right?

Move later. Gotta get to work!
"Nature has placed nothing so high, that valour cannot overcome it."

Oh my! This totally slipped my mind. Things are crazy busy here. Gotta get this going! I slid the figures all to the starting box (though it's not going to matter much).
My Turn
Turn 1:

Amon Sur nodded imperiously to one of his officers standing next to him. The officer turned his head and grabbed a lever on one of the consoles nearby. Suddenly, the ship lurched slightly, and a bulkhead disappeared into the floor. The attack avenues of the Black Circle's leaders quickly became much more open.
"Do you see now that you stand no chance?!" Amon Sur shouted. "I have been working toward this day for years!"
He swept his left arm forward, and a pointed finger at its end made its meaning clear. The two officers advanced fearlessly toward the Green Lanterns, confident in their technology.
( this trait effect should have happened "before the beginning of the first round..." i hope it's alright nonetheless, as it adds to the story in my opinion... )
- Circle Captain/Dum Dum Dugan invokes his trait SWORDfall and 'makes' the blocking terrain T/U/V20/21/22 into clear terrain.
- Circle Captain/Dum Dum Dugan moves to R22.
- Circle Lieutenant/Jarvis moves to Q18.
- Field Commander/Hydra Officer has Leadership > roll: 1 FAIL.
- Commando "Xava"/Hydra Footsoldier moves to P10.
- Commando "Yella"/Hydra Footsoldier moves to Q10.
- Sniper "Bertha" moves to S5 (where she enjoys Stealth).

3) G'Nort is nervous and does something dirty on the floor earning him an action token. He also takes a click when John whaps him with a paper and says "Bad Dog!" LOL [note this is NOT commentary. I just can't help myself!]

Barking some guttural language, one of the Black Circle's armed troops glared at the others and gesticulated wildly. With their rings drained, Katma and G'nort were unable to rely on their automatic interpreting. It was, however, fairly obvious that the barking soldier was in charge and the grunts rushing headlong toward John and Katma were underlings. It remained to be seen how accurately they could shoot...
( oops! i goofed, ALC... last turn (turn 2b), i made the mistake of taking three actions in the top half, even though the Fiedl Commander/Hydra Officer failed his Leadership roll... i fear you followed my (wrong) example and took three actions, as well... sorry!... please let me know which one of the three actions in your turn 2a would be annulled... i apologize... )
- Field Commander/Hydra Officer has Leadership > roll: 6 SUCCESS.
- Sniper 'Bertha' moves (from W11) to S5 (into Stealth). (I posted this move last turn but do it legally now... )
- Commando 'Zodo'/Hydra Footsoldier moves (from W12) to R6.
- Sniper 'Agatha' moves (from W10) to P6 (into Stealth).
