This is just a very non-scientific breakdown of the Watchmen set, into different logical groups that singles buyers might want to look at. These are just the different ways I would group these figures, and are not the only way to do so, of course, but this might help Heroclix players/collectors who want to purchase the Watchmen set by the piece, and not by the set.
Approximate prices were garnered by researching current eBay prices, with most of them coming from Comical's listings. Also, these prices do not include shipping for online purchases. It would also be interesting to know how many total Watchmen sets will be made, but that is probably a number we will never know.
As a note of transparency, I will be purchasing a complete Watchmen set asap, but I just wanted to share my research with everyone else, so they can best decide how to purchase any Watchmen Heroclix pieces for themselves!
Another way to purchase singles would be just to pick out your favorite version of any one character and buy only that one. By my count, there are only 17 different characters in the set, 15 if you don't count the event dial or Walter Kovacs as different characters.
Entire Watchmen Set of 25 pieces (approx $100=$4 per figure)
Post-Comedian Watchmen 6 pieces (approx $74=$12.33 per figure)
001 Rorschach AE $15
002 Silk Spectre daughter $4
005 Dr. Manhattan Mars version $43
012 Nite Owl snow version $4
013 Walter Kovacs Alter Ego $4
023 Ozymandias and Bubastis $4
Retro Watchmen 9 pieces (approx $60=$6.67 per figure)
003 Nite-Owl $10
004 Ozymandias $8
006 The Comedian $9
011 Dr. Manhattan Giant $11
015 Bubastis $4
021 The Comedian and Nite Owl $4
022 Silk Spectre and Dr. Manhattan $4
024 Nite Owl and Rorschach $8
E001 Intrinsic Field Experiment 15 event dial $2
Minutemen 4 pieces (approx $16=$4.00 per figure)
007 Hooded Justice $4
008 Captain Metropolis $4
009 The Comedian green $4
010 Silk Spectre mother $4
Bad Guys 6 pieces (approx $22=$3.67 per figure)
014 Mask-Killer Ozy $4
016 Knot Top Leader $4
017 Knot Top $4
018 Moloch the Mystic $4
019 Big Figure $4
020 Larry and Mike $2
Myself, I am definitely most interested in the Retro Watchmen group, followed by the Bad Guys group, then the Minutemen group, then the Post-Comedian Watchmen group.
I was most troubled by how to group the 2 versions of Ozymandias and some of the duo figures, but I think this is a fairly logical way to do so. The Nite Owl and Rorschach duo should probably be in the Post-Comedian Watchmen group, but that would leave the Retro Watchmen without a Rorschach piece of any kind. Let me know if you think there should be any other changes.

I agree that I think the conventional costume will sell for more than the snow Nite Owl. He's silly looking, and not the traditional costume. Dials aside, people will want to have a cool Watchmen team, sans weird white costume Nite Owl, that's at least the way I see it.

Yep, I agree on that.
I do like snowy stuff (ie Empire Strikes Back), but the brown costume is definitely better than the snow costume in this case.
My thing is, once you buy Zen Manhattan and Rorschach and a few others, you might as well buy the whole set. I think prices are going to remain pretty high on those 2 figures especially.
I think the duos will drop considerably, but the core team should stay pretty high as well.

That's the gamble, isn't it? There's no guarantee that anyone will buy extra sets to sell singles after the set is released. There's no guarantee that there will even be a single market on these figures once the set is released. The box sets may not sell out quickly, and may be available for a while, but those people waiting to get singles will have to keep waiting and hoping that someone trades them the pieces they want or a large singles market does open up for the game.
Even if someone, one person, does buy 2-3 of the sets and sells singles, it won't be enough supply for the demand.
And if the box sets aren't as available after release? Well, good luck with getting your single figures.
I already snatched up 4 Big Figures from a seller on ebay for $21 total shipped. I have no interest in buying the set for $100. I never saw the movie or read books or anything, I know nothing about it.
I know that Big Figure is ridiculous, and the Zenhatten is too. But I'll snag him sometime. I only found him for $42 from the same seller, and at that point it would make more sense to buy the entire set. But I can probably work a trade for the extra Big Figures to get one.
Coming from a pure player standpoint, I'll take those 2 and if another pops out at me at some point I'll try to get it, but as of right now those would be the 2 must haves from a competitive play standpoint.
I don't know if Zenhattan will be that competitive in 300 point games.
Hard to KO, for sure, but he's not going to wipe out teams like some people think.
Still, if you want Zenhattan and Big Figure, you are probably better off buying the whole set. You could sell the rest of the set and get at least some money back.
I think it will be like the Green Lantern set...only even more expensive.
Of coure he's not going to be competitive in 300 points, but since our venues mix in higher point games now that Wizkids has given them control, he will be a beast in 400+.
I'd never use a single brick in 300 points. It's never worked. I think I'm fine off spending $21 for 4 Big Figures. I have a feeling they will end up being for a lot more than that, so I should be able to sell the extra 2 and get the Zenhatten.
I'm saying all this - and when the box set gets released I will end up walking out of the local shop with it... *cry*
