Rookie needing Experienced/Veteran Advice on good 400 pt team builds 2010
Hey everyone,
As stated above, I'm basically new to Heroclix (started when it first came out, dropped it after clobberin' time era and picked it back up just last week).
I play against a few friends on the weekends and play usually 400 (sometimes 500) point standard solo/team death matches. I usually prefer ranged combat teams/strategies over close combat in anything I play (video games, hclix, etc.). However, I'm open to new ideas of course.
If anyone could just throw out some team builds/strategies that "work" and "don't work" to help me catch up to my friends and possibly surprise them with a decent force?
i tend to build around one figure as my center piece. i find this works well, just add some backing figures that compliment the character or support to make the character better. as you keep playing you'll figure this out.
if you could, tell me a few characters that you are looking to play and i'll try to give you some advice for teams.
otherwise, you could just run theme teams, which basically build themselves. i'm not a big fan of theme teams however as i rarely run them.
Ok, that sounds like a good idea. So should I have one main piece, with maybe a couple semi-strong pieces and then a healer like paramedic or something?
As for characters, I have quite a few I got from years ago and then an assortment from the past few releases that I got on ebay.
Here are a few of my favorite to field:
U.S. Agent 75 pts. (he's a workhorse imo)
#001 Captain America 95 pts.
BB (I think) Dr. Doom 200 pts.
IC Unique Elektra 36 pts.
BB Wonder woman 210 pts. (or something like that...) - (she always get's downed way before I can do anything with her..)
I have more but they're currently at my friend's house and don't remember them haha =D. I'm willing to shop for whatever pieces are needed to build the team too.
If you want some feat suggestions for this team...
Ambush on Nightcrawler
Alias on Captain America
...or...
Protected on Captain America
This team gives you variety, it's balanced, and everyone on the team is efficient. Much better than relying on one big guy who can be taken out easily. This will catch your friends off guard from what you usually play.
i would heavily advise getting know the figures you play BEFORE you play them. just click through the dials, read the powers, try to remember any big changes in a dial, like losing a good power, or a spike in numbers(like shazam "dropping out", or hulk turning to banner mid-dial).
other than that play whatever you LIKE to play. if ranged games are your thing, then i'd advise some green(or yellow) lanterns.

You just clubbed a baby seal.
I hate it when superman gets tied up with Plastic Man
Don't hate the player, hate the game. Or the figures. Or the dice. Or the map...
These all seem good ideas to me. Going on a miniature tangent, I just bought two WoS boosters and I got a couple good ones like Doc Oc, Researcher, Will-O-Wisp and Warpath (just to name a few). I'm thinking about doing a scientist theme teamed but don't really know what other characters compliment my what would be center figure (I feel) - Doc Oc. Or any "scientist" characters that are vital?
I like that Cap'n America you posted. I'll have to ebay him.
for scientist theres metron who is a beast the starter set and classic redo of mr.fantastic and dr.manhatten from the watchmen, all of which are just super powerful, also you have an anti-tentpole tentpole with Hulkbuster iron man if you want to use him
Very best thing you can do is play characters you like. If you're not having fun, why play?
That said, I've found that one tent pole piece never works for me. I try to make sure I have a bunch of middle-range pieces that can all do something as opposed to just the one.
If you want a surprisingly fun build, I'd recommend the Future keyword. Build out of that bunch. All of the Legion (of Super heroes and villains) pieces are cool; Kang is a beat stick; Rip Hunter and Degaton are amazing; it's a very versatile keyword.
Vet Johnny Alpha (64)
Kid Zoom (87)
Lightning Lord (89)
Per Degaton (90)
Ahab (68)
Total: 398
And if you find that you're playing in a 500 point format, add in Young Superman.
Earth 2 counterpart of Lethargy_Jones Now with 50% more irony.
Currently hoping for: a very playable Crime Syndicate.
Ok I'll give Metrom a try as well as that future themed team. I'm playing tonight with a different team though, but stillwish me luck! I'll seriously need it against a nightcrawler team. lol.
There aren't many better 400 point teams than the Fantastic Four starter. They have a lot of powers, so it can take a while to get used to them, but once you learn the team's abilities they can be awesome. They are the ones I learned to play with, and it took several games to get the hang of them, but now I can hold my own with them against almost any 400 point team. Plus, Mr. Fantastic is great for scientist keyword teams, and The Thing is good for soldier teams.
Any opinions on whether or not this team is versatile/good enough to hang in a 400 point tourney? or at least a 400 pt competitive battle against decent/good opponents? Any suggestions from you guys are much appreciated and definitely taken into heavy consideration when choosing team/tactics.
I don't like it, if you want future theres both Inertia and Kid Zoom from BatB as well as rip hunter, dawnstar from crisis, If you want future I'd recommend this instead
Doom 150 (2099 collectors set, you seem to have it so he's good)
Rip Hunter 97 (I recommend highly)
Spider-Man 2099 92
Dream Girl 50
total team build 389, leaves you with 11 points for feats or objects and lots of prob and outwit, plus hypertime team ability for wildcard copying.
