I hope somebody can help me with this. There are several figures in the game that can outwit multiple targets. My question is, how does LINE OF FIRE factor into this?
Does the outwitter need LoF to only the first target?
Does the outwitter need LoF to all targets to be affected?
Does the outwitter need LoF to none of the targets since it's a special power?
Does the answer differ for each example listed below?
I've listed some of the SPs below:
CRISPUS ALLEN
YOUR POWERS WILL NOT SAVE YOU: Crispus Allen can use Outwit. He can use it normally, or he can counter all standard and named powers of up to two adjacent opposing characters.
SKRULL YELLOWJACKET
TRAITOR: Yellowjacket can use Outwit. He can use it normally, or he can choose a team ability possessed by an opposing character 6 or fewer squares away to which he can draw a clear line of fire and counter that team ability on all opposing characters.
SKRULL EMPEROR
SCHEME: Skrull Emperor can use Outwit. He can use it normally, or choose a keyword and counter the same power or ability possessed by all opposing characters 10 or fewer sqyares away that possess the chosen keyword.
SKRULL SPIDER-WOMAN
AGENT PROVOCATEUR: Spider-Woman can use Outwit. When Spider-Woman uses Outwit, she can use it normally, or she can counter all powers of a choosen type (move, attack, damage or defense) of all adjacent characters.
If a special power utilizes a standard PAC power in some different way, the special power behaves exactly like the standard PAC power except for where the special power description specifically says otherwise.
So if you've got special version of Outwit, the only time you DON'T need LOF is when the special power specifically says you do not. None of the example you provided above specifically say that LOF is not needed.
An example of one that does not need LOF:
Lord of Latveria: Dr. Doom can use Outwit and Perplex. When Dr. Doom uses Outwit, he can use it normally, or you can roll a d6 instead; on a result of 4-6, counter a power
possessed by a single target opposing character anywhere on the battlefield.
Doom does not need LOF. As long as the character is on the map, he can counter their power (provided he rolls high enough).

what happens if he rolls a 1-3, do you lose the free action with no result? or can you use outwit like normal?

Crispus Allen and Spider-Woman need LOF when they use the special aspects of their power? They don't just need adjacency?

I only asked because the link sent me to this quote made by a Dep, "You are correct that Mordru and Emperor Joker do need LoF, but Spider woman does not." I'm going to assume this has changed.
it doesn't state any specifics about LoF, only that that adjacency is required.
I somehow missed SI Spider-Woman on that list. I dunno... maybe because she was at the end.
Yeah, she would not need LOF. And I guess Crispus wouldn't either, then, but I never really thought about that since he's DC and I try not to think about those pieces
Looking at Skrull Yellowjacket, it only specifies needing to draw a line of fire to one target 6 squares away, but then the effect affects all opposing characters. from what I'm hearing, he does NOT need LoF for all of the affected figures, right?

He's not using Outwit (special or not) on those other characters; he's using it on that first character he targets. Anything that happens afterwards is just a side effect of the power being used in the first place.

on that note, lately I've been trying to only collect Marvel. I'll be the first to admit that it is extremely hard not collecting DC. I feel as I'm handicapping myself against my opponents by not giving myself potential advantages by collecting DC... How the H E double hockey sticks do you do it??

*shrug* I just do it. I never really thought about it. I just enjoy playing the game with the characters I like to read; winning has always been secondary to me. Besides, it's not like you can't win with just Marvel/Indy; there are just as many Marvel "power pieces" as there are DC ones.

So, the same would apply to Skrull Emperor right? If there are 9 figures 10 or fewer squares away that have stealth AND occupy hindering terrain and there is one more figure that has stealth, but NOT occupying hindering terrain, can Emperor outwit stealth on the target he can draw LoF to, and thereby counter stealth on the other 9 figures? I would say, yes.

Skrull Emperor does need LoF.

I don't understand the difference between Yellowjacket and Emperor. their Special out wits are almost structurally identical, using the same terminology and having the same effect. Only the range and subject of the outwit seem to be different.
Why then does Emperor need LoF to all targets, and Yellowjacket only the initial target?
