I was woundering, if i put a 4 square barrior around on character so that he is surrounded on all sides is there any way an enemy figure can get me?
Becuse the rules say that a barrier is blocking terrain, you can't shoot through the diaginals, or move through it. the rules do say that a soaring character can fly over it and on to it. My friend says that a flying character can fly onto it and shoot down and i say that the only way someone can get me is if they have the Leap/climb ability and range.
Can anyone direct me to who is right and mabey where it is in the rules? thanx
as far as i know the only way u could get at a charachter that is surrounded by barrier is to destroy one of the walls first other than that i dont know... i could be wrong though...
"A Leap/Climb or hovering character that ends its move on top of outdoor blocking terrain is not considered to be adjacent to any other figure that is not also on top of outdoor blocking terrain."
*and*
"Line of Fire is clear if it doesn’t cross blocking terrain or a square that is occupied by a figure."
Since the hovering character is not technically adjacent to you, he may shoot at you inside the barrier. He has clear LOS to you, because the only square of blocking terrain is the one he is on and does not count against his LOS. However this also means that you may shoot back at him as well, since he is non-adjacent.
There are only two ways without destroying a Barrier square---one hoverer taxiing another onto the Barrier, or a flyer ending the movement portion of Running Shot hovering on the Barrier. Or, I suppose, LE Superman could use his ranged HSS.
Leap/Climb figures can't end their move actions on top of Barriers and can't make close combat attacks through the wall (it is not a matter of elevation) and so are out of the picture.
A flying figure in either flight mode may stay on top of a Barrier, but to move there themselves will either be using their only action for the turn or beginning part of a movement-attack power. Charge is out of the picture because of Enigma's quote, but Running Shot is fine because it uses a ranged attack. And since flyers are the only figures that may stand atop Barriers at the end of an action, only a flyer taxiing another flyer will enable taxiing to help at all. Remember, too, that though either flight mode may go over the Barrier, if soaring the figure cannot attack your non-soaring figure.
Shade, I don't believe that is right. Destroying the barrier only creates a square of hindering, but it would not hurt your figure inside the 4 square barrier.
Baah. I need to reread rules. BUT, I do remember hearing that if you were adjacent to a wall square when destroyed, you recieve a click of damage. I could have just made that up in my head somewhere but eh.. Barrier is the same as a wall, or block terrain. Whatever you care to call it. Therefore, assuming I remember right, you WOULD recieve a click.
I have never heard of that before. But it sounds like a cool "house rule" I might start using. If a wall explodes next to someone, they will probably get pounded by bricks and stuff.
I thought it was a real rule. But of course, I have been known to be wrong. Rarely. perhaps I've used it as a house rule so long I've forgotten what the true ruling was. But yes, that's the reasoning behind it.
