Thought I had seen something about this before but cant find the thread.
So...
Can I choose to ignore one of my own abilities? Example: Could I ignore Indomitable to purposely take pushing damage? Could I ignore Flight ability so that I can be carried? Could I ignore the Giant symbol to become normal size?

You can cancel most of your character's abilities. That is not the same as ignoring, though, and a couple (Giant Size, Colossal Size off the top of my head) are not optional.
Regarding your Carry question specifically, stuff like TK and Carry don't care what abilities your character has... they care about the combat symbols on the base.
The fact that a character can use Flight is irrelevent to Carry. Instead Carry won't work on a character that has the symbol. And there is no way to cancel your symbols; only the abilities that some of those symbols allow your character to use.

Some *abilities* are optional, but you will still have the symbol. You can't turn off the Indomitable symbol but you don't have to use the Indomitable ability, so you can choose to take push damage.
If you have the symbol, you have both the Flight and Carry ability, neither of which you have to use. However, if you have the symbol, you can't get rid of the symbol, and it's the symbol that keeps you from being carried.
These symbols grant combat abilities such as indomitable, sharpshooter, move and attack, carry, flight, swim, duo-attack, colossal size, giant size and giant stride.
Most of those abilities can be cancelled--giant size and colossal size cannot.
Most of them give you little to no advantage in doing so--indomitable being an obvious exception.
So in answer to your specifics: Yes, you can cancel Indomitable to take pushing.
You can cancel Flight, but it is the , , ,, , or that prevent a figure from being carried.
You cannot cancel a symbol, but you could cancel the giant stride ability--it just wouldn't serve much of a purpose.

An opposing character could counter combat abilities, yes. The symbols would still remain, though.
The only way to get rid of symbols is to replace them with something else (like the Earthbound/Neutralize power, which changes all combat symbols on a character to the standard , , , and ).

What if a character gets a symbol from an SP (like Skrull Yellowjacket)- if he cancels that power, he can be carried, right? Would it make a difference for characters like Namor, who just have Flight ability and not the symbol?

Yes. If Yellowjacket cancels the Giant Man special power he will have the combat symbol and can be carried.

Combat symbols, not combat abilities, are what prevent a character from being carried. Namor has the , , , and combat symbols and none of those prevent him from being carried.
