Just wanted to give the old man his props.
Yesterday at a Marvel 400 tournament, my Magneto-based team faced off against a Sentinel-based team in the final round. He was the points leader, amassing about 2000 points in three rounds (lots and lots of captures). No one had been able to touch his big boys. But against the master of magnatism, the Sentinels lost their entire support crews. Then it was a matter of Magneto dealing death-blows to each of the metal giants, racking up 400 points.
I only lost one character, and that was because I insisted that he push his rookie invisible girl to hit my unique wolverine (at the time, it was his one character against my entire team, and only Wolvie was severely injured).
Got an LE Clay Quartermain for his magnetic efforts.
We need Sand. And Sandman. And even Sandy the Golden Boy.
I also love Magneto. I was wondering who else you had on his team. He seems to me to be a figure that makes your whole team better. (TK and Taxi combo is awsome).
Also, Did you use his Vet Version? If so, did you use him as the big gun only? Or, as a support piece first and then as a big gun?
When I use V Magneto, it is mainly as a support piece first. Have him stay back and TK big hitters, like V Sabertooth first. Let your other figs apply the first damage. I have people like avalanche or pyro put barriers around Mags so he is safe. Then, once the other team has been softened up, Magneto can sit back at 8 range and hit for 4. Plus they have to roll to hit 19 against range for him. If you have successfully (granted that is an if) softened up the opponent, they should have trouble with it.
Some other key support figures that make Mags work:
Rookie Invisible girl (think: range defense of 20 for Mags, 21 if in hindering).
Medics, Medics, Medics (preferrably Hydras for the team ability).
Vet. Logan and U. Wolverine (nice to TK fling and tie up any team's first charge).
Shield teamers (at least until cheap enhancement comes out).
We need Sand. And Sandman. And even Sandy the Golden Boy.
I have only been playing theme teams lately, thats why I posted him with all Brotherhood. But you are right about the others. Having him taxi a R Psylocke is going to be very hurtful.
With the additions of Mystique and Destiny, I'm starting to get a nice Brotherhood team together (add a dash of Sabertooth and a helping of Juggernaught, a pinch of Quicksilver...).
We need Sand. And Sandman. And even Sandy the Golden Boy.
i used him over the weekend in a 500-pt. game. he tossed spiral into battle & then soaked up AV from adjacent hyrdas & slowly wiped the board clean until he was the last man standing. he totally rocks my clix world.
Good game. I should have gone after those medics earlier...I forgot I could see all the way back there. You did crush me pretty bad, and if I remember correctly you were the only one that even hurt my sentinels all day (they had an IG of their own)...aside from myself of course, I was abusing those poor robots.
I spent all those actions dwindling down sue...just to have her healed back up. Would have been a complete shut out, had my sue not killed your U wolvie (that was the only game that will EVER happen). I had a lot of fun Sunday.
And about that nasty brotherhood team your building...I'm judging a X-men vs Brotherhood team April 27th, and there will be another one the first week of may, although both are different. First one is bring 2 400 pt teams (one of each), the next one is just 1 400 pt team of either x-men, brotherhood, or sentinels. Hopefully I'll see you there .
.... As well he should, because he costs twice the points.
Magneto is a board control figure, first and foremost. He's not a heavy hitter to equal the other figures his cost, and you flat out can't use him if you're push-happy. He's there to put your figures where you want them to be, and to scoot your opponents figures where he doesn't want them to be.
Although I'd pretty much agree that the Rookie pretty much gnaws, and can't do much that you can't achieve with a Wasp taxiing an Experienced Jean Grey.
Yeah Vet. Magneto is way underused and just wait for the cheap Perplexers in Xplosion. With a Base damage of 4 and with the Rookie Psylocke with Enhancement just Perplex that damage up to 5.
