This one's bugged me since the two SI Yellowjacket figures came out. If I'm right, players formerly could cancel the use of the Giant Man special power (which lets either Yellowjacket possess the giant symbol and use Charge) to "shrink down" for the turn--a useful trick with Outwit or Perplex.
However, now, with the removal of canceling as a concept in-game. . . is this trick still viable? If not, then these two characters are forced into being giants on the appropriate clicks, barring Outwit; if so, then these two characters haven't changed, but WHY haven't they changed? Could someone spell that out for me if that's still the case?
Thanks in advance! I'm a fan of Avengers and West Coast Avengers themes, and I'd love to know so I could actually run the human figure without going, "Well, I don't know for sure. . ." mid-game.
Without canceling, their giant size is always on (unless countered by outwit or the like) so no more popping up on my turn and shrinking down on your turn.

This ruling sucks... he WAS a serious contender for beating the Phoenix...

When the rules change, some figures are affected. Some get better, some get worse. Icons V Superman got a lot worse when HSS figures had to halve their range when making ranged combat attacks, for example. That's just the nature of the game.
Personally, I think the grow/shrink trick was a little too good for the points anyway, so I don't mind seeing it not work anymore.
The power was par for the course for his point cost and, IMO, was something that made him comic accurate. He's gone from very good to middle of the road...not nearly as worth the points now.

I do like middle of the road pieces better than powerhouses, I'll have to admit that. The only time I tried the gorw/shrink trick it felt pretty unfair to the opponent though.

Moreover, if I had to guess, I'd say that the grow/shrink trick was probably never intended to work like it did anyway and that this change brings it to how it was originally intended to work.

You are probably right. However the grow/shrink trick did always feel comic accurate. Maybe we'll get a version one of these days with that maneuver built in.

Actually, no it didn't 'feel comic accurate' (to me, anyway, longtime reader of The Avengers).
It's so hard for me to recall a time when Hank grew, shrank, and grew again in the middle of battle it might as well be a 'one-time' occurrence.
I'm okay with the change. It opens the door to give someone like Hank Pym a special power that lets him change his size during your turn/opponent's similar to how Skrull-Yellowjacket did. It would be fun and comic-accurate.
