"No Essssscape : Characters using Hypersonic Speed or Leap/Climb can't automatically break away from Cobra, but they add 2 to their break away rolls."
"Extra-Dimensional Teleportation : Nightcrawler ignores the effects of terrain and characters on movement."
Nightcrawler's trait is worded as Phasing/Teleport is, which means he doesn't even have to break away (automatically or not) when beginning a move adjacent to an opposing character.
Am I correct in thinking that, as a result of this, Cobra's special power wouldn't force Nightcrawler to roll for break away if the latter began his Hypersonic Speed action while adjacent to the former ?

It's not exactly the same as Phasing Teleport because once Nightcrawler is adjacent to Cobra Nightcrawler would have to roll to breakaway because he is no longer moving when making the attack

1) A figure using HSS most certainly IS still moving when making the attack. No figure using HSS ever makes the attack while of HSS while not moving.
2) That's not what he's asking anyway.
3) For NC, it is phrased exactly like P/T. He ignores the effects of characters on movement. One of the effects of characters on movement is having to break away. If you ignore this effect, there simply isn't any breakaway made, automatic or otherwise.
If the question is "does nightcrawler ignore x?" the answer is invariably "yes."
Yeah. Its my biggest gripe on that whole debacle. If he has everything they gave him and they didn't use the words "ignore" there would be some counter we could work on.
But thanks to "ignore" Cobra and the Hypertime TA are useless against him.
There was a reason Kid Zoom showed up at Origins vs any other year...
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
Nightcrawler was stopped by Wonder Woman's special power lasso right ?
I think this would be the same case, because the special power is holding him there not the character. Granted Nightcrawler would only fail by rolling a 1.
Honestly, re-reading it, it sounds like the SP should work on Nightcrawler. It says that characters with HSS can't automatically break away. Nightcrawler has HSS. Therefore he can't automatically break away.
It shouldn't matter that he has two abilities that allow him to allow him to break away for free. The fact is that because he has HSS, he can't break away for free according to the SP.
Christ did not come to condemn the world, but to save it.

Nightcrawler never breaks away. He always ignores it completely.
This is vastly different than an automatic break away.

I haven't seen that question discussed, but I'd say she doesn't work.

Lasso Capture: When an opposing character takes
damage from Wonder Woman's attack, that character can't
break away (even automatically) during its next turn if
Wonder Woman is adjacent to it.
He ignores break away, so it should have no effect on him.

Sure seems like automatically breaking away to me.
Doesn't change the fact that Nightcrawler has HSS, therefore Cobra's SP should apply to him. Seems to me that while he can ignore other characters while moving, he would still need to roll break away from Cobra.

With an automatic break away, the the effect of breaking away still occurs. It just never fails.
When you ignore the break away, the effect of breaking away never even happens.
Effects may be similar, but that doesn't mean they are the same thing.

Oh, Cobra's SP applies to him in so far as NC does have HSS. It just doesn't actually do anything to him as there is no break away which ever occurs when using NC.

Yes but the fact that the SP applies makes break away occur. After all, NC's trait doesn't say that he ignores break away, just that he ignores characters for movement. Normally that would mean he wouldn't need to break away, but because Cobra's SP triggers from his HSS, he would need to.

The fact that he ignores all characters for movement overrides anything else.
