Here's the scenario have fun, the prize is Superman Beyond and I really want him:
Build a 600 pt Modern Age team and battle to see who is the last man standing. Single round elimination, no healing between rounds. No healing vines as special objects.
No healing between rounds? So does that mean if a figure was KO'ed or took damange in the previous game you enter the next game on the last click they were on or out of the game completely if they were knocked out?
yes it does it kind of makes things interesting, and I am just looking for ideas of what people have used in the past that can stand tough against a scenario like this.

Reason: add more
If it was me I would go with an x-men team to utilize the team ability and meet theme for non-generic theme team. It'll help with 4 prob rolls and better map choice. And since you're playing to win something you really want, don't be afraid to get extra cheesy with nightcrawler and professor x. I would also highly suggest adding cyclops for 2 clicks of healing with the x-men ta. And if you end the game with some damage, you can just start healing next game in your starting area
Definitely drop warpath, in his place I would switch out for uncommon psylocke from gsx or nightcrawler from WoS if you have him. I'm not too sure about phoenix, she could go either way. She might be a nice main attacker but if she drops in this style of tournament you're gonna be at a major disadvantage in later rounds being short almost 300 points. I would highly suggest diversifying and switching out for more smaller point x-men. Archangel? Beast? Emma frost? (btw juggernaut has x-men keyword as well!)
86 WS047 Nightcrawler
110 GX008 Cyclops
123 GX036 Professor X
74 GX023 Psylocke
140 GX102 Cable
66 GX050 Armor
599
maybe something like this?
ive never personally played this team but ive used all these characters except Armor. cable is underwhelming till he hits his god click late dial and psylock is mean up close and doubles as a tker. and im sure everyone loves cyke nightcrawler and the professor.
I don't have nightcrawler but I am thinking he will be something I face. I don't have cable or armor either but I do have the deadpool LE he is always fun
Based off what you said you have/don't have, something like this might work for you:
Professor X -123
Emma Frost- 81
Cyclops- 110
Cypher- 38
Beast- 95
Angel- 50
Archangel- 99
Total: 596
This leaves some room for an object, possibly Crimson Gem, or Kryptonite, etc.Edit: neither of those objects would fit, possibly Yellow Lantern for your psychic blast characters?
Emma Frost can lend her Enhancement to boost ProfX's damage, doubling as a body guard with top dial Running shot+Psychic blast. You can also use her as a health battery for Prof X, which will open up her outwit later down the dial.
Cyclops is included for obvious reasons, and will double as a second bodyguard, or emergency tie-up.(remember his sharpshooter ability allows him to make ranged combat attacks while adjacent!) If you find cyclops isn't really doing much in the back with Emma and ProfX, definitely have him playing the role of a secondary attacker, or extra psychic blaster where necessary.
Cypher is going to give all of your pieces a team ability that your opponent can use. If your opponents are using Superman Ally TA, you can use this to break stealth (which will be a problem for you) Of course other team abilities will help in other ways. Cypher will also give you some much needed perplex for some of your medium attack values on various figs.
Beast is AMAZING TIE-UP. You want to park him next to your enemies' ranged attackers. His outwit will do wonders, and remember, Beast has full dial, un-outwittable Leap/Climb and Supersenses. His top click with combat reflexes is going to give him a 19 defense to close combat attacks, so base some enemies!
Angel is going to be a taxi for Beast or cyclops when necessary, while giving you full movement charge, with no penalty to carrying on movement. He will be an excellent point for Prof X to shoot out of.
Archangel is going to be your offensive/mobile piece. Keep him moving and don't let your opponent base him.
Don't be afraid to push Prof X to attack as often as possible. Stay on Perplex clicks if you keep missing, and heal back to outwit when necessary (Xmen TA heal from Emma or Cyclops)
With this build, you will have access to all of what I call the "Big 3" powers:
Probability Control (4 uses for playing non-generic theme team at 600pts)
Perplex (2nd and 3rd click on cypher and Prof X)
Outwit (Beast, Prof X, Emma Frost)
And don't forget to remove actions from characters with Cyclops (full dial leadership)
Hope this helps.
EDIT:also, you will note that this team is largely devoid of damage reducers, so dodging attacks and healing with Xmen TA is CRUCIAL. This team will greatly rely on your placement skills, and how quickly you can reposition and heal.
This team could definitely be better, what other X-men do you have?
If you are missing some of these pieces as well, you might just want to consider another team idea and start from scratch.
Well if you want to do non-theme and go for broke, I suggest
WoS Wolverine
WoS Deadpool
Lobo
Deadman
Abin Sur
and 13 points for an ATA and/or objects.
Abin taxies every into and hopefully out of the action. Wolvie and Lobo heal themselves. Deadman Regens on his last click, as does Deadpool (as well as Ridiculous Regen). Deadman and Deadpool deal Mystics to attackers.
My H/W link does not reflect the wants for my collection, it is a list of figures that I already have, but still "want" to play.
Could be fun. Most of your heavy hitters have mastermind, and the can MM the damage to a Hydra Agent, which respawns! Give the unavoidable damage to Gorgon who has two clicks of Regen.
How is Catwoman indomitable? Everyone deserves it before her, even Aunt May.

Excellent use of the respawn mechanic on the hydra agents! This would actually be superb for this style of tournament, since the OP is not worried about points lost, only last man standing.
