1= friendly attacking character (Standard Close Combat Attack)
2= friendly character
A= Target of attacking character
B= opposing Character
Example:
1B
2A
Is this a legal Close combat attack for Character "1" to attack character "A"?
I played at a venue that said no. I'll forward a response to that judge.

Yep, that's 100% legal.

As long as it was a close combat action, this would have been legal as you have presented it. Just to be sure, outwit, perplex, pc, and any range attack would not have worked; unless 1 had sharpshooter. An intersection of two characters only stops line of fire.
I'm a big proponent of "adjacency over LoF", the exception being stealth. I've never really understood how I can't see the guy next to me that I'm punching in the ####.

To be clear, the sharpshooter thing works only because one of those guys is opposing. If both figures across the diagonal were friendly, LoF couold not be drawn.

The only thing you need to understand is that rules make it so.

Line of Fire not equal to Line of Sight.
Line of Sight is not a game mechanic, so I dont understand why people keep saying you cant see a guy just because you cant draw Line of Fire.

It is just a slip of the tongue. I find myself saying LoS when I mean LoF once in a while.
We tend to be picky about correcting people who say "Line of Sight" here, but its for a good reason. For whatever reason, there are a lot of people who insist that there are two different game mechanics, Line of Fire and "Line of Sight", that operate in a similar, but distinct fashion. Then we get questions about how the two different mechanics act in certain situations...
There is no line of sight. There is only line of fire.
