Okay, I'm relativeyl new to HeroClix the game...due to financial and personal preferences I've decided to opt only for the DC Clix. As I've grown older I've became more attached to the DC characters than the MArvel ones...anyway, i digress...
I've been to one "tournament", and couldn't help but notice that pretty much everyone in the tourney was using only Marvel characters. Why is this? Are they statistically superior? Or is it because there are three sets of Marvel and only one DC?
Like I said I'm only getting the DC figures and really haven't played *played* the game...
if it's 1) that the marvel characters are statistically superior...well that doesn't really seem quite right or fair to the DC figures, does it?
Can anyone help me out here?

I recently went to playing all DC, but i started playing about a month after ic hit the stores. Marvel has generally higher stats, but less superpowers on a character in general. DC tends to have overall lower stats but more superpowers on each dial. DC also tends to offer more balanced game play. DC has overall higher speed stats then marvel but lower ranges, only 2 people have a 10 range and one is an le. DC thus allows for more close combat while marvel is dominated by range. I suggest playing dc only tournaments, seniaros or teams only, these formats tend to even the odds. Plus for the cash lacking amoung us DC's slower set release schedule makes the game far easier to afford.
Not to sound like a DC basher but I cant fathum why superman is so darn expensive...I mean if he is supposed to so strong then why is his damage so low? DC produced one of my favorite figs, doomsday. Come on taxi him in and bash anyone to thier lowest clixs.
alright, thanks guys...well, here's part two of the question - why is it that marvel has better stats? is this a result of play tresting or improvement in the gameform by the creaters? or does WizKids really feel like Marvel *is* statistically better?

Well I know I great deal of the problem was that marvel told WizKids to go ahead with thier imaginations and stats to create the figures, and DC was more dare I say anal and had to approve every little detail and power of thier figs. Good and bad, yes DC cares a great deal on how thier heros are represented but bad because now they generally cant compete with a lot of the marvel fighters.
I gotta say, there are a lot of DC clix out there that seem to always make the team for me...
-Rookie Dove. very high bang/buck ratio.
-E/V Bane. Bane hurts.
-Veteran TO Morrow. 28 points for energy explosion, Super Senses, and RCE? Why not?
-Veteran Booster Gold. Good thing he works well, he's in EVERY FRIGGIN PACK.
In fact, I can name more extremely playable DC figs than DC junk figs.
Of course, even the junky figs have their uses. The point is that it's a strategy game, not a "who has the best figs" game. (This is why I buy HeroClix, while Magic fell by the wayside some time ago.)
The point is to take stuff that seems like junk, put it together, and watch someone's jaw drop when you waste them with it! Very fulfilling, in a testosterone kind of way.
DC has plenty of good stuff out there, you just need practice in how to use it. Get out and play!

Starr226, I don't buy any marvel clixs because I just love the DC characters. In this game, your going to see alot more marvel players than DC. But that is OK, I made it my mission to see how many games I can win useing only DC and to tell you the truth, it is about a 35% winning streak. But it is getting easier to win against marvel, you just have to know to how to get around them.
Your all going to have people tell you that marvel is just better because they have more sets, better stats, and more powers in total. Well the fact that DC only has one set does suck but look at the clixs them self. DC looks way better than any marvel set. I think marvel is trying to rush out there game to get ahead but some of the clix look really bad. The stats are better on marvel clix and it is hard to get around but it can be done. Perplex and outwit will save you even against marvel stats.
So don't worry about marvel. Sure they have alot going for it right now but DC has time. If you give it anuff time you will see Dc coming back in a big way. (ie.Comsic Justice) But for now have fun playing and remeber, marvel can be beat, I did it.
One factor is the options available. Going up against a Marvel team, you'll never know what you;re likely to come up against. With 3 sets there's just too many possibilities. Also, in DC, some popular characters like Supes and Bats are pretty expensive. It's tough to make a JLA team and leave out two of its most iconic members. Especially in typical tourney play, Supes is almost unuseable. Not only that, but even when DC first came out it was the small set; 130 figs compared to Marvels 150. That's 6 REV characters plus 2 uniques less. Therefore, you have less options and that makes it harder. With Cosmic Justice coming out, it won't be as bad anymore.
I still think that since JonL has taken over, the Marvel sets have been more closely balanced with HyperTime. If you take Infinity Challenge out of the equation, I think the others sets all play well together. But there are so many powerful clix in IC that you can't help but play them, therefore continueing to make Marvel seem statistically superior to DC.
I think DCs edge is in the powers. With most having outwit or perplex, it helps balance them. Though I will add, if we don't get probabilaty control and bcf in the next DC set we still will be behind the curve.
Which is why I play mixed most of the time. To me this is a Heroclix game, and not a DC clix and Marvel clix game. They mix and match very well. So some of the Marvel ones tend to have some with better stats. Most of the DC ones seem to have the best bang for the buck. Veteren Robin? Any Aquaman? Exp T.O. Morrow? Vet Nightwing? There are many in D.C. that are equal if not better to most of the Marvel ones. It's more fun I find to mix and match. The imagination of comic books played out. Ever want to see Spidey and Supes work together to take out the villains? Now you can do it. I find the best way to play this game is to play with no dupes, and no medics. It lets you have HUGE point games and still play quickly. Once a character is injured, he's gonna stay that way for the most part. It's great. I for one look forward to Cosmic Justice and what it will bring to the game (Please let me have a Firestorm...please...please) as well as new Marvel sets and the Indy sets. Maybe someday Spawn will see the light of day. But until then I will team up my favorite heroes and villains and enjoy battling it out.
Into thine hands, Bring together all three. Their treasures combined tame the Beast of the sea.
