Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question, but my friend and I were playing a friendly game last night and an unusual situation presented itself. First off his mindcontroller (I think it was Sauron) was locked up with my White Queen. My Cyclops was three squares away. He tried to tell me that even though Mandarin was locked up that MC had a range of four regardless. I said that's true if the fool wasn't locked up. He said in a tournament that weekend that somebody pulled that booyah on him. I asked him what the judge said and he said he wasn't around so he didn't get a chance to ask him and let the other dude get his way. I wasn't gonna let that ride, see and we looked in our rules and couldn't find anything concretely specific, so I denied his nasty request, seeing as I don't know any other situation where a fool is locked up and he can make a ranged combat attack. If I'm wrong, I can let that ride, but seeing as I didn't know and we weren't about to dig for an FAQ, I figured I'd bring this scenario to the people and see if y'all knew about this here. Your response is appreciated.

Well, you were right to rule it the way you did.

When 'locked up', the only figures you are able to attack would be those that are adjacent to your figure.

So Sauron would not be able to attack opposing Cyclops if Sauron is already adjacent to opposing White Queen.

His only valid target would be opposing White Queen.

It is illegal, from the PAC, he would have to assign either a close combat or ranged attack to Mind Control.

Sauron is a flyer, so he has a choice of ranged or combat, but it must be against the figure he is b2b with. A non-flyer would have no choice but to mke a close combat attack.

Basically, he must be allowed under the normal rules to make a ranged combat attack against the target he wants. In your example, he wasnt.

I just thought of this. If he was really being nasty he could've MC'ed White Queen to MC Cyclops. Maybe he was fearful of supersenses, but still, that would've been a stunning move had he pulled it off. Not to mention evil!

I think there are actually two issues here. First, if your fig has Mind Control they have a range of four, UNLESS the range they already have is greater than that. Sauron MCs from up to 4 away, White Queen I think has a range of 8.

And I think in the first couple of sentences, Sauron turned into Mandarin. He has the potential to MC from 12 away.

Second, if you are in b2b with the enemy you cannot make a ranged attack out to an another fig. There are execeptions, but I'll let others cover it.

From what you described, this is what I would have done. Your White Queen could mind control Sauron/Mandarin(whoever the MCer was b2b with White Queen). That fig is now temporarily considered friendly to White Queen and if it has range and LOS, that fig can MC on another character (assuming of course the fig is on an MC click).
