I really enjoy using Heroscape tiles to create a layout for HeroClix games. It's quite easy to use six-sided spaces instead of squares. You can play with 0 changes to the rules!
I do use one new rule, but it's not often that it's used. When you use Barrier, if you use it in a circle shape to surround a figure, you can place 6 Barrier tokens to complete the circle instead of only 4.
The layout below was all one flat surface. You can make towers, hills, valleys, cliffs and other elevated terrain with Heroscape, but this time I didn't bother. In the pictures below, light blue tiles are water, green tiles are hindering terrain, and grey, black or white tiles are clear terrain. There's no elevated terrain, only a couple of dark grey pillars of blocking terrain. The layout had one main room with two "treasure rooms" off to the west. The treasure rooms contained some Infinity Gems, the Cosmic Cube, Globe of U.K. and a Nova helmet.
As you can see, the wall pieces could be individually removed, if anyone wanted to shoot one. In the game shown, my past theme team of Vet Kang + time-traveling buddies came close to beating the Infinity Watch, but at the end I had no one left who could overcome Adam Warlock's 19 + IMP.
Note to self: next time, don't leave Warlock for last.
Below we see Rip Hunter and his ally Apocalypse put a smackdown on Drax before his Soul Gem can heal him back to top. Behind Drax is the Time Gem. If the Time Gem's just rolling around on the floor, what the heck is locked in that cabinet??
Poker chips make the best action tokens (use a different color on alternate turns) and I'm really sold on using the ID rings to tell one force from another.
Here we see Adam Warlock about to Outwit the snot out of Gideon. He later used his Power Gem to blast Mystique and Kang back to the Stone Age (how appropriate!) I had an idea to include doors from HeroQuest in the corridors, but that proved to be too complicated.
Maybe I'll use the door rule when I create a Heroclix-Dungeon-Explore game for 1 player and 1 judge.
Doors: can be opened as a free action at the end of your Move Action. Make an attack roll to bash or unlock the door, against 17. Outwit or Super Senses gives you a +2 to your roll. 3 damage or Super Strength gives you a +3 to your roll. Doors can be closed again as a free action at the end of a Move Action, which locks the door again automatically. Tougher doors can have 19 or 21 defense.
All in all, I really enjoy using a plastic 3D map to make the game more immersive. The scale is just about right, even the HeroQuest furniture too, and the water and hindering bushes terrain are all ready to go!
If you see Heroscape stuff ever being cleared out at your local toy store or Wal-Mart, snap it up!

I've done this a few times and it seems to work pretty well. I wish I had snagged more heroscape stuff when I saw starter sets on sale for $25 once at Target.
How come I only see ID rings on the figs with old style bases???
Hair, the pictures are from March 2012! This is an old thread! Your Kickstarter didn't begin until July.
Yes, I do need some hair10 ID rings, everyone in the Ottawa venue I go to uses them... but I need to save up to pay for USPS's killer postage cost to Canada.
