For those of you that know me; you know that I'm a MAJORMage Knight fanboy! That's how RealmWorx got it's start (MKRealms.com), and that's how I got my start in gaming (thanks Draddog)! And it's also how I became an ultra-competitive gamer (Anunub Deathstar!). So I'm very happy to announce that we have a chance to bring it back!
MVF, the sister company to Wizkids, has launched a Kickstarter to make it happen!
MFV, WizKids Team Up to Announce Mage Knight Revenge Kickstarter Initiative Bring Popular Tabletop Game, Mage Knight™, to Online Space
Hillside, N.J. & Cary, N.C.—June 29, 2012—Sister companies and game creators, MFV, Inc. and WizKids Games, majority owned by leading licensed collectibles maker, NECA, today revealed plans to bring the popular Mage Knight™ tabletop game to the online space and potentially back to comic and hobby shops nationally. Coinciding with the announcement, the studios have launched a Kickstarter campaign set to run today through July 31, gathering fan and community support to bring their latest project to fruition.
Mage Knight Revenge is a tactical battles game that continues the storyline from the popular tabletop game, incorporating key game mechanics. The game is set to launch initially on web and mobile, with expansions on other platforms to follow.
“We want to bring Mage Knight back on a new platform,” said Milton Soong, Chief Executive Officer at MFV. “Our goal is to create a fun, polished video game and miniatures line that pleases both existing Mage Knight fans as well as new players—Kickstarter is a great way to gauge interest and receive valuable feedback from the community on the project.”
Developers are inviting supporters to collaborate with them on key gameplay elements, such as factions and rules sets during the Kickstarter campaign.
As a bonus for players and fans, WizKids Games has agreed to bring back the original Mage Knight physical game that players know and love, based on community feedback, response and goals met on the Mage Knight Revenge Kickstarter campaign:
“Mage Knight™ was one of the first games WizKids developed, initially launching in 2000 with overwhelming response,” said Justin Ziran, President at WizKids.
“We’re not only committed to bringing it back digitally enhanced, but we’ll be backing the Mage Knight Revenge Kickstarter as well; reintroducing the Mage Knight tabletop game upon goal completion.”
This means that not only will players and fans have the opportunity to engage in the mysterious world of Mage Knight™ online, but can obtain the once out-of-print miniatures line at hobby and comic shops nationally.
Both MFV and WizKids have presented an array of rewards for backers of the Mage Knight Revenge Kickstarter campaign, including copies of both the digital and physical Mage Knight game, signed and framed concept art, physical Limited-Edition Mage Knight starter packs and bonus missions.
Additionally, backers of higher tiers will have the opportunity to design their very own figure, add stats and powers and not only see their creation in game, but receive a 3D, hand-painted sculpt.
A complete list of rewards for supporters can be found here.
Visit the Kickstarter project page here for more details on the project or to pledge.

If this means I can get to use my Solonavi army again I am for it. Bring back MK and I'll start dusting off my box with my pieces in it. Then go out and buy any new Solonavi figures like the one is the upper right picture.
I was a *huge* Mage Knight player back in the day, and still have all my figures stored away in the basement.
Nowadays, all I can talk people into is the occasional MK Dungeons game. Dungeons had a great ruleset--it's actually what I expected WK to start with when they first announced HeroClix. Speed points (move & attack for EVERY figure), counterattacks, etc. It still holds up.
Also, the Mage Knight Conquest rules for mass battles are great fun too, and we'll still bust out the Dragons, Chariots, and Castles every once in a while. But the chance that the game could come back and build a player base again is exciting.
Looking forward to seeing how this Kickstarter progresses . . . I'm definitely going to back it.

As I implied in the other thread, I really hope there's some way to support and buy in but only for the physical version.
I know right now I'll never be playing the digital one, because, really, I don't play computer games. But I would LOVE to get more real guys. I'm proud of having gotten the last 4 figures ever made... and now there are gonna be 16 MORE? I'd support that, if only to allow me to get them direct from WK once they come out [in a year, apparently]. I loathe the idea of tracking them down on the secondary, and with them being Heroclix compatible [sure, why not?] there might be some demand [if only for the LOTR crossoverability].
I'll also take a brief moment to complain, but for the 170 bucks, I should be getting ALL the physical figures, not just the starter and two of the 10 other guys. But eh.
Interesting, it looks like the relaunched MK is going to use HC style maps. However, the dials/stats will be different, so it won't be directly HC compatible. However, the physical run will include swappable dials, one dial for use with MK, the other for use with HC.
So, at least the initial figures will be compatible with HC even if the game system isn't.

I like that they specifically refer to it as "Classic Mage Knight."
The core of the Kickstarter is to get the video game made [and the figures are a gravy bonus to bump up donations] rather than this being a proper relaunch of the physical game. I mean, sure, if donations blow them away, there might be business in making a physical version, but as is obvious, they're making Heroclix dials for them, too, so I don't think WK is ever gonna stray away from the "Core" rules, even if physical MK does get a full-scale relaunch. Makes me think they may release them as a Heroclix FF kit anyways, and the MK bases will be the LE element. 'Cause, you know, NECA ain't never lettin' a sculpt go unused.
I'd love to give it a try but I'm totally unimpressed by the HCOnline customer support. You get plenty of pre-geqnerated responses. Then if they can't recreate the issue it's YOUR fault. iAt least 3 times I lost $10. Just last night I pulled Hulk 202 & Roulette but the game cut out in round 2 when I'm winning for a Con Punisher. Hope this is better.
I'm not a big Mage Knight fan, never played it myself, so I can't say anything other than the fact that it's cool that they're trying to bring it back in such a fan-supported, grassroots way.
HOWEVER, I have to chuckle slightly at the fact that at the $5000 "MK Ultra" level, you can come out to North Carolina to consult with the artists/designers and have dinner with the team, but you're responsible for your own travel and lodging. After you pay 5 grand. I realize it's a Kickstarter project, yes, but I still got a good laugh from that.
