Has anyone checked out the July edition of Previews yet? According to it, DC will be releasing an issue #0 for all it's current titles and even a new series (Talon) in the month of September. Only a couple titles caught my interest and some of them were just plain weird. Earth 2 #0 interests me since they killed off Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman in the first issue. Since Justice League started off with an origin story, issue #0 is supposed to focus mainly on the Shazam storyline (which I really have no interest in). The only other title that I'm kinda curious about is Green Lantern, issue #0 is supposed to be about the GL shown in the Free Comic Book Day New 52 title.
Anyone else have any insight to add to this or any comments in general about this whole #0 release?
Guy Gardner solves his problems with a chainsaw and he never has the same problem twice...
That smell is the smell of Joephisto.
He is hiding under your bed.
He's waiting for you to fall asleep so he can then creep in beside you and tenderly hold you close to his body.
To hold you.
To caress you.
To love you.
The #0 issues are the same month as last year's #1 issues. They are just a line-wide jumping on point for people again, refocusing the line for this year, and trying to again, draw back lapsed readers on some stories at their start.
The Inhuman of Team Vegas,
Black Bolt of the Vegas Illuminati
I just think it's weird that for the most part, they didn't consider origin stories necessary for the start of the New 52, but a year later NOW everyone needs to know the origin of the Flash and Guy Gardner. Plus some of these titles just started last month, so it's kinda silly for them to need a re-freshening already.
As far as refocusing goes, they should have done that months ago. A lot of the titles in the New 52 aren't very good to say the least. It's kinda disappointing, but at least my favorite characters Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, and Batman have had decent stories. Well, half the Batman titles anyway haha.

I personally don't see the problem with it. As mentioned it is intended as another jumping on point for people; It can be intimidating to see anything besides a #0 or #1 on the title and be willing to pick it up. So I certainly appreciated it more than either renumbering or doing (#1 of 6) as many comics will do.
As to why they are exploring some origin stories? Why not? I can imagine that when they first started DCnU they wanted to try and hook people and get them going with something exciting from the start. They didn't know whether or not it was going to be successful. Seeing as it has been, they can now go back and either try and smooth out continuity issues (not easy!) or otherwise work it into the new fiction.
And on the topic of quality; they is subjective. For the most part I feel the vast majority of the titles are worth reading. Yes, you have stinkers, but my pull list is near 30 and most of them are worth my money.
Seems like a mix of different types of stories, rather than just origin stories. IIRC, the pitch for this was the Zero issue stories would precede the #1 issue stories, so that doesn't necessarily imply only origin tales. And some of the solicits (Firestorm, New Guardians) appear to be in present day.
Aside: wow, the War of Light FF appears a lot more timely now.
I realize that not all of them are origin tales, but based on the fact that these are issue #0, one would assume at least precede the #1's. That however doesn't appear to be the case. I do read New Guardians and it appeared to me also that it was set in present day along with Red Lanterns as a prologue to "The Third Army". I guess the lack of uniformity is what bothered me initially, but is less of an issue now.
And I totally understand the whole concept of using this as a jumping on point for new readers, because I was the same way. A lot of the titles I collect now are because DC threw a #1 on the cover. The fact that this new start is only 2 months away is disconcerting to me, because some titles just started new story arcs in issue #9 or #10 and I would hate for them to rush to a conclusion in only 2 more issues. That is my current main concern.
But who knows, everything might turn out to be just fine. I was just voicing some of my concerns and interests and I wanted to see what others thought as well.
EDIT: Looking at it again, Red Lanterns is actually set in the past. The fact that it was listed as part of "The Third Army" prologue threw me off. But it appears to be an origin story just like GL and GL Corps which are also a part of the prologue.
