I was told that you can have a limited amount of replacement figures on your side board. If this is so how many am I limited to and does point value come into play.
The main example I can think of is Ant-Man and Wassp duo who can split into lots of different figures. Where are they capped at adding in different figures when they split?
I suppose it's nice that there IS a limit to how many Sentinels Master Mold can produce. I remember the Shadowlord board game mentioned limited resources in the galaxy being the reason you were limited to the pieces that came in the game (as opposed to buying two games for more?).

The "sideboard" only applies to REPLACEMENT characters (Alter Egos, Morph, Split Merge, etc.).
There is no limit on characters that can be brought in through other game effects (Astral Strange, Zuvembies, Multiple Man/Madrox, etc.).

Again, this was brought up in another thread; the section in the comprehensive tournament guide that covered this rule of 3 figures per 100 points was deleted in the latest revision, for whatever reason. Unless it is brought back in to that document, there is no current limit mentioned.

No, but the rule book does say there you and your friends should decide on a limit before playing. In an official tournament setting "you and your friends" would be the Judge... so better to ask him or her than assume.
Hmm does that mean i could start with Dark Phoenix, and Jean grey from 10th for example. and if DP has been kod promote Jean Grey into Dark phoenix?
Yes.
Also note that since this thread was started, a specific sideline limit was added to the Comprehensive Tournament Document:
2.6 Replacement
Characters: Whatever replacement character policy the event will use should be available in the event description. The default replacement character limitation is 3 per 100 points of the build total, with a maximum of 15 replacement characters per force.
