ok, so my friend and i just started playing like a month ago. we`re still figuring out the finer points of the game, but my official W/L for the last 3 weeks is 1/12! i really like this game but interest is waning fast cuz if i can`t win at all im getting to the point of just selling them and chalking it up as a loss. really wanna play NML, but at this rate im better off eating a bullet. jus seems like he`s got an advantage over me in every game: if he rules with outwit/stealth one game, next game i`ll prepare and lose to his indominatable/impervious/invulnerability. at first i thought it was just my crappy rolls but this is getting ridiculous. im not gonna list all my characters here but i have a bit of everything to work with. any help or advice that will keep me from selling my collection one month into my new addiction would be appreciated.

I got into clix because of the clix themselves, not winning or losing. I've played a few games with friends and I could careless about winning or losing at this point. Now once I get more experienced I will go to tourneys and try to win. I kind of have a switch, when I want to have fun I could lose every game as longs as my friends and I are laughing and having fun I don't care. When I want to win something I get pretty serious, I read up on strategy, meta, etc...

I would suggest trying to make a team you think will be successful no matter what team you face. Not trying to counter what someone else used last game. That way he will not know what to expect either. The main thing(for me at least) is to have fun.

okay in order to help you, it would really help knowing what you like to play, what strategies you prefer, type of powers you enjoy using..
its one thing to play really cheesy and powerful pieces, but i find in my few months of clixing that i prefer playing things i enjoy. (i've won a ig7 grandmaster with great lakes avengers themed team)

so below is a short list

1st. List what you like to play - marvel,dc,themed teams, powers
2nd. How much of the rules do you seem to understand - power interactions etc or do you and your friend just go with the flow.
3rd. whats the point total you normally play 300-500 modern age/golden age
4th. do you and your friend reveal the forces you use before battle or is it secretive?
5th. most importantly, do you enjoy winning more.. or playing the game - very important in determining what you play, be honest about this.

i love playing themed teams but then again i dont mind losing as long as i play something fun and exciting.

anyway some more details and maybe we can suggest stuff to play. but of course since we dont know what you have we might not be able to give the best of help, maybe list the sets you have, like figs from chaos war, incredible hulk, dc 75th or really old ones etc etc

anyway heres a balanced team that should handle many that get thrown your way

simple 300 point team with out wit, perplex, power cosmic, penetrating psychic blast and pulsewave to handle most situations.

We've been playing between 450-650 modern rules and he and i have a mix of monsters&mutations,justice league, avengers, old DC without cards, some chaos war GF's, greenlantern movie, avengers movie... anything Marvel or DC we've been able to get our hands on (M&M and old DC came from me cuz got into heroclix 3 yrs ago initially to only mod for heroscape). I've been trying a few things but mainly theme teams, namely S.H.I.E.L.D. and avengers from chaos war GF. He got a couple IH boosters the other day and has been playing with the big Mighty Thorrr recently, but he changes it up pretty frequently, usually at least with DKR batman though.

And i know the main part is to have fun, which I do, but im in the double digits with losses while only having 1 win. They're not all blow-outs, but we're both growing restless.

thor doesnt have to be played and u get a 450 point team. with decent powers and slight attack boosts.. but really lacking in the exploit weakness portion, guessing key would be iron mans triple in cap, get the new chaos war ff gravity feed. will post more teams later.. as i think of them

if u have thor, he is your best bet against imperv,indom with his pulsewave, hawk eye and widow eat bat man teams with their stealth busting, victoria is tehre to boost their attack values, wouldnt really try to use her special trait

If you could also toss up an example of what you last played and played against.

If you like to play SHIELD, try using their ATA (additional team ability). They are listed in the units section on this website, as well as the player's guide. The SHIELD ATA lets your characters use perplex, probability control, and out from farther away per character that has the ability, to a max range of 16 i think. That will let you outwit from farther away than he can. You can always outwit his outwit, too. It really helps out because shield is all about attacking from far range with their team ability, so outwitting from farther away makes it better for them too.
ATAs can be tricky at first, so definitely read through the rulebook to get a good idea on how to use them. You can always come back to the rules section for help too. I hope you decide to keep playing, because we always like to have more players!

okay hmm

how i see this team playing out is simply hawkeye is your main stealth buster, sharon steve and vic will boost his range +3, vic boosts his attack +1 both captain america and steve rogers can roll leadership and pull tokens off him,
beast and wolverine are the tie ups or beast can double up as a medic
vision with sheild range boosts or shield team special is your main penetrating psychic blaster proper positioning should put his attack to 11 at the start with 8 range
even captain america with 12 attack and a 3 booster range should be able to dish some pain, a very patient team and good in an open map with alot of hindering so sharon can grant stealth to everyone.. push her to gain perplex, and use beast and wolvie as tie ups, blades melee attackers with beasts conditional prob, with proper positioning and map choice should handle most of what can be thrown at you. the rest is down to dice rolls.

the mighty thor cant hit what he cant target.
btw assumingyour sharon and vic are from chaos war,
you have about 21 points left for objects/avengers ata/shield ata
i'd recommend the movement mighty avengers ata though

couple questions:

1.it was mentioned by cowiee that hawkeye an black widow can stealth bust... how? is that the Avengers Initiative TA that involves hindering being clear for lof purposes? if so that would be a game-changer for me that we've been playing wrong.

also, in the last post, how would vision get the SHIELD if he's not SHIELD?

well to explain, avengers initiative team ability allows characters to ignore hindering terrain for movement and line of fire purposes.

stealth kicks in when line of fire is drawn through hindering then it is blocked..

since u ignore hindering when drawing line of fire, you can target stealth because even if it passes a green square you ignore the square, hence stealth bust teams.. doesnt work against the hand though but good against others

i;m not sure if this vision has the shield keyword but as long as steve rogers is around all avengers team can use the sheild team ability

shield team ability has a passive that boosts range for adjacent characters
=p its a passive to a max of +3 to range values

I won last night! I'm chalking it up to the advice on here, me paying better attention to details and some good rolling. in a 420 pt game my chaos war GF Vision and my GSX FF Cyclops tore down the Red Hulk, which made his DKR catwoman, 2 bronze tigers and green lantern movie support chick (forgot the name.... starts with R) fall in line after. thank you everyone for your help and advice in helping my slump end. pretty excited for our Flash vs Flash 500 pt game tonight (my Wally vs his Barry). thanks again.
