"At the moment there is no FF team on my side, so they are not FF or are they?"
That's a good point. It doesn't make sense if it works because the FF member is already knocked-out of the game. Unless the player declares the wildcard ability at the start of his turn.
If so,
1. must all wildcard ability be declared early on at the start of my turn/opponent's turn?
2. Can I change the wildcard ability during opponent's turn? Let's say on my turn I use Avenger's ability so that I could move for free. Then, when my opponent starts to move, can I or must I declare a change to the wildcard ability?
If you wish to partake in a team ability you have to declare it before any dice roll.
Example: You cannot, as mentioned above wait to see if your FF fig is going to get KO'ed and then declare that your Wildcards are using FF team abiltiy. You must declare them FF before your opponent rolls the dice for the attack.
You can change your team ability on anyones turn.
For another example:
You have EXP Ultron(MOD) adjacent to your Vet Hawkman(JSA). You also have a Rookie Robin on your team. You declare that Ultron is using Batman Ally Team Ability and he is in hindering terrain. Your opponent declares that he is going to attack Hawkman, you then state that Ultron is going to use the JSA Team Ability so Hawkman's Defense is raised. Now NO attack roll has been made yet. Your opponent says that he is going to attack Ultron instead because he is now JSA, STILL NO roll so you can declare Ultron to be Batman Ally again. YES this can go back and forth until your opponent decides to attack Hawkman or takes another action all together. YES it could be frustrating. But as long as you are not using more than one Team Ability at a time it is legal to do. Once the dice are rolled however then you are locked in for the remainer of the action.
Actually according to Tsannik, you may declare FF team ability at any time after the dice are rolled but before any clicks of damage are assigned. So you could declare Defenders team for Def, then if the attack is still successful you can declare FF to heal everyone if the figure dies.
As far as the other question, as long as the wildcards declare FF team prior to the actual FF team member taking damage and dying then they would still receive the healing; the figure death and clicks of healing happen simultaneously, then there is no longer a FF member around to mimic.
Whenever someone asks me what I think the most dangerous animal is, i tell them it has to be a shark riding on an elephant, just eating and trampling everything in sight.
Actually, this is exactly what the past two FAQs have stated.... and for the record, I was wholly against this as this made a special exception for Fantastic Four team ability.
I had brought this up to Chapeau and he later recinded this.
The Fantastic Four team ability works like ALL other team abilities. Team abilities must be declared after the action is declared but BEFORE the dice are rolled.
I hope you all will take this, but if not, I can find the thread I posted in and try a cut-n-paste of his replies.
