So tonight I have a sealed tourny at my local venue, and the rules are 400 points sealed, and we can choose either from Marvel 10th Edition or DC 10th Edition. Its going to be fun, but does one hold any advantage over the other? I saw great stuff from both sides and I'm on the fence for which way to go. The Marvel stuff would be great for all the stuff I already have, but I dont have a lot of DC stuff and might want to start building up on DC stuff. Any ideas? One better at 400 points sealed than the other?
Marvel has okay common and uncommons. But D.C. has better commons and uncommons. Marvels rares for sealed play seem to be better then D.C. It comes down to what you want to do. Do you want to pull to win or pull to grow your collection.
350 point Brainiac is an uncommon and happens to be ridiculous in sealed. The only reason he got past his "I'll show you impervious" clicks was my dice (2 crit misses each game, I'm not kidding)
If someone happens to pull a Dark Phoenix, she could give you problems with hit and running, but that's 1 rare and there's still the super impervious to deal with. And remember it can't be ignored, so no penetrating damage, no pulse wave
Go with DC its much stronger overall
350 braniac is a house
Low rent braniac is still great
Lex is a hammer in sealed.
Plus winners like new blue beetle, john jones, phone booth supes, surprisngly strong bat family.
Oh hell itsalmost all good.
Marvel has so decent figures but beyond worldbreaker/phoenix its pretty low power.
Yeah, I'd say DC is probably the way to go, but be forewarned that next to nothing in the set has Willpower or Indom.
Here's a list of pieces from each set that seem very good in sealed:
Marvel:
004 Green Goblin (75 points for Running Shot, 11 attack, 4 damage, and Willpower)
006 Marvel Girl (cheapish TK, and first click Support. ESD helps keep her from getting picked off)
007 Storm (decent, not amazing. Solid filler here)
009 Iron Man (his 125 line is AMAZING for sealed. 225 isn't bad either.)
011 The Thing (good beatstick for his cost)
013 Worldbreaker (others like him, I personally don't but w/e)
014 Emma Frost (Outwit, and suprisingly durable. Goes onto Perplex.)
015 Magneto (solid ranged attacker for his points, just be careful as he
only has one click of Running Shot.)
016 Thor (solid ranged guy for his points, sees through Stealth too!)
020 Storm (solid defense, solid offense, mobile... play her if you pull her)
021 Dark Phoenix (speaks for herself)
022 Wolverine (best of the Skrulls on his own, also pretty cheap)
DC:
001 Batman (incredible for 63 points. Stealth, Leap/Climb, Outwit, Willpower, 12 attack, and 3 damage.)
003 John Jones (PD can help, Perplex can help, and he can hold his own)
005 Braniac (outwit, RS, Pulsewave, good values... needs to stay healthy
though.)
007 Nightwing (pretty solid for his points, and good at what he does)
009 Blue Beetle (this guy is absurd. Hard to hurt, Mystics TA, amazing attacker front dial... unless you have nothing else and a big Braniac, you NEED to play this guy)
010 The Flash (he's awesome, and can crack damage reducers every click. SOLD)
012 Braniac (pretty meh at the other point lines, potential boss at 350. Depends on what you pull around him really... pull crap play him, pull decent, bench him.)
017 Oracle (if you have other Leaguers, just play her. Support is in short supply, and she's got a truck full of it.)
019 Martian Manhunter (very solid piece, keep him top dial as long as you can)
020 Lex Luthor (so I'm not sure about his trait, but if you don't need the objects on your sheet then he's amazing for sealed. Monopoly on special objects, and a solid beatstick, all at an affordable price tag.)
021 Superman (pretty easy to figure this one out.)
022 Wonder Woman (solid for her points, but not amazing)
024 Superman (good beatstick, and should be able to go toe-to-toe with anyone in this set. Dark Phoenix could be an issue in a bi-partisan format.)
It's pretty much up to you. I think DC might have a bit safer draw overall, but Marvel certainly isn't bad and has the big ticket item in Dark Phoenix.
I've won 2 sealed events in this format so far, both 300 points. One was DC the other was Marvel. Here were the teams I played:
Marvel-
006 Marvel Girl
009 Iron Man
015 Magneto
I passed on playing Skrull Spidey on this team. The combination of 2 ranged attackers and TK was just too devastating.
DC-
001 Batman
009 Blue Beetle
021 Superman
This team hit like a train, but the real hero was Batman. He's an absolute monster for what you're paying. This was among the best sealed teams I've ever had.
Good luck with your pulls, hope some of my abundance of free time helps you win something! :]
Thanks for the info guys. It'll help me out in tonights pull. And thanks DVogan11 for taking the time to break it down like that. Ill let you guys know how I do tonight.
I played a 375-3 action sealed. pulled dark phoenix, batman and black lantern batman. I ran 300 point DP and rookie bats. 363 total. I went 3-0 easily.
I just kept bats back and outwitted and attack with some incap when necessary and HSS around with DP. worked really well and the PW is nasty if they try to get up on you.
The best thing to look for in this is outwit. It is the best power in this sealed because you can outwit almost all of the characters.
