I have been playing a lot of the new anniversary set. At least twice the promotion has laid waste to my team. Iron Man is ferocious. Magneto too. My brother heals Iron Man then RS and rolls a 6 for promotion. He suddenly was 100% back in the running. He pulse waved my Skrull chase theme team to dust.
Magneto is another. He is great at his lower cost and mobile enough to get the promotion eventually.
I feel sorry for Jean Grey. If you can get her to Dark Phoenix you have done something removable. Thor is good too. There are a few I would leave alone depending on what is needed. It is good to have an option but changing to Hal actually hurt me I was damaged but the only benefit was indomitable. Who have you been able to promote I might start playing them until I promote e veryone once. As I mentioned earlier only way to promote Jean is if you goes after pogs
The Thing is a great promotion figure. Sure, he has to get in close, but his Indomitable, massive attack value, and solid damage reducers on an 80ish point figure is really playable. Promotion is totally gravy on this value figure.
Storm will be awesome with promotion, though I haven't used her. That 59 point dial makes Winter Soldier look average. Long range, good defense in Stealth, and big time damage.
I don't have Storm's rare, but judging by the games I've used her lower figure, she'll promote easily. If you get an open enough map and your opponent doesn't specifically go for her right off the bat, she's almost guaranteed to hit at least twice.
Thing is the only other promotion figure I used, but he's not likely to get there. Even with indom and Charge he has trouble getting in. Normally that wouldn't be a problem for a bruiser because who really cares about a budget brick? They're more like threats and bodyguards than anything else. But when you're counting on him to hit multiple times, it's frustrating and ineffective.
Green Lantern promotes pretty quickly with willpower.
OP feels sorry for Jean Grey. At least she can TK objects against opponents. Lex Luthor outdoes Jean in the most useless promotion department.
Lol. Yeah he wins the useless all around title too. I have yet to use him. There are too many far better figures that do what he does. The rare Luthor is a great piece too.
I also look at is it worth it to promote. There are a few that after taking a hit of damage you are better off sticking it out with them. Others promote well on 9out of 10 clicks. Iron Man, Thor, the Black Lanterns, the Skrulls. Actually worth playing just for the chance to promote.
I know I have played Magneto both as a 250 and the lower point. I would rsther count on promoting. Use him as a hit and run while basing as many of your opponents people as possible with Sabretooth, Rogue, and Mystique. Then when he changes game over.

I disagree. I think Thing has the 3 factors you need to maximize your chances to promote: high attack, Willpower and a M&A power. His Charge doesn't have a long reach, but for 82 points it's incredible that he's got as much as he does. For such low points to deal out 6 damage, you shouldn't have to count on him to promote. I think of it as icing on top of a huge cake made of pain.

Use Common Hulk.. with x2 or 3 Mole Men.. and a Scarlet Witch or 2.. Up his attack value.. and MC hulks first click (no battle fury) to attack 3 or 4 times in one turn.. PC and a 9 or 10 attack value.. there's a good chance you can get some tokens!
