I see that the 2012 rulebook makes no mention of hovering and soaring. The feat Divebomb feat says:

There hasn't been soaring since Crisis, so for about four and a half years. The Divebomb feat did take a hit.

Don't worry. "Giant Stride" will keep it company.

Agreed. Soaring was the tactic nobody ever saw coming. So a soaring HSSer would keep their 2 speed (changing elevations twice) in exchange for -2 attack, which was handy for getting back out of range.
Additionally, if your opponent only had a 0 range figure without L/C, you could divebomb him all day and he couldn't do jack about it.

Soaring was one of those things that I wish was still in the game. For every fifty players who complained that it was useless, there was one who would try (and succeed) to make it shine.

It'd be interesting to see it come back in a limited capacity as a special power. Maybe an Angel figure in the Wolverine and the X-Men set. If done well, it would be funny to see how many players latched onto it as the new hotness, when in actuality it would just be a rehash of something quite old.

I think they should reword it so it's like the trait on JL52 Hawkman.

Maybe reword Pym Particles too so it has the symbol

This is funny because I was just saying to someone how I view PBS very much like soaring.

Not many people really used soaring, but everyone enjoyed knowing that it is there. It wasn't until it went away that people started screaming about how awesome it was. Heck, everyone and his brother (myself included) started railing against the change and how it was a travesty. Now only that handful of people who actually used it still miss it.

I was just trying to convey that if soaring is a defunct mechanic then why even ask about the feat. Later on in the thread it was addressed and now I think I would want to see it come back in a trait as well.
