Several questions, from general rules to character specific.
Hi all! As I said in my presentation post, I'm pretty new to the game (10 days and 10 games under my belt), and although I've been studying the rules thoroughly, I've found several things that I haven't found a clear answer anywhere. So, here they are:
- If a line of fire crosses several, separated hindering terrain tiles, do you apply the defense bonus to ranged attacks several times? I'm pretty sure it's only +1 regardless of how many tiles are crossed, but the other day we had that situation in the Oa map and we were in doubt.
- If one character Outwits a power and then the opponent Outwits your Outwit... Is the power that was outwitted first still canceled?
- What are those "feats" I keep reading about? Like "Pounce", etc.
- To sum up Pulse Wave... Is it "1 unavoidable damage if you win the attack roll on each figure you can target"? Locks at 1 but ignores powers, so I don't see a situation where it would behave otherwise.
- Quake, performed by a Giant: does it affect every figure the Giant would be able to perform a close combat action? And what about Red King, with his gigantic reach, would be Quake extended as well?
- Giant figures can perform a close combat action 2 tiles away... does that mean that an enemy figure is based at that distance? And again... What about Red King, would he base at 3 distance (Yeah, I got him the other day).
- Web special terrain vs powers that let you break away automatically: Useless, or they have to make the roll anyway? For example, would a Hypersonic Speed character have to roll a d6 to leave a webbed terrain?
- Is Willpower optional? I have a Chaos war Nick Fury that would be much more useful if I could force him into Outwit.
- And finally... Jericho: When he reappears after having possessed a figure, how many action tokens does he get? As much as he would have had when he made the possession? For example, if Jericho has 1 action token and pushes to possess, let's say, Beastboy, and later releases the possession, how many tokens would he appear with? 1, like he had before possessing? 2, because the possession counted for that? None, for some strange reason?
2) The power that was originally Outwitted would return. To be clear:
a) You Outwit my Outwit.
b) My other Outwitter Outwits your Outwit.
b) My original Outwitter has his Outwit back.
3) Don't bother with 'em. Seriously. Just. Do. Not. All kidding aside, they were cards that souped up your figures, pretty much the era before we started to card up figures. Nowdays, the SPs are sorta like those feats, only built into the dial.
4) Pulse Wave can also deal your unmodified damage (2 or more) if you lock it in on a SINGLE OPPOSING CHARACTER.
6) Nope, they're not based 2 squares away. (or even 3)
7) Pretty sure L/C & HSS ignores those markers.
8) You can turn off Willpower.
9) Let's see:

Instead, remove Jericho from the battlefield and put him on his character card; the target is possessed, becomes friendly to your force and opposing to its owner's force, and any of the target's canceled powers return.
After the resolution of any action given to the target, you can release the target. Remove all actions tokens from the target and put Jericho in any unoccupied square within 4 squares to which the target has a clear line of fire. The target becomes friendly to its owner's force and opposing to your force.
If the target is possessed at the end of your turn, roll a d6 and add 1 to the result for each 100 points (or fraction thereof) of the target's point value. If the result is 6 or more, the target is released. If the result is 5 or less, deal Jericho 1 unavoidable damage.
Each time the possessed target takes damage, deal Jericho 1 unavoidable damage after the action is resolved. Any effect that can counter the target's powers can counter Jericho's Possession. If Jericho is eliminated or Possession is countered or canceled, the target is immediately released. Jericho and possessed characters can't be targeted by Mind Control or Possession.
The only stipulation I see is the underlined portion I marked above...nothing about him returning with the same amount of tokens, so I think he returns all clear.

Hindering terrain modifier is +1 only once regardless of squares crossed

The power returns when Outwit is countered by another outwit

- What are those "feats" I keep reading about? Like "Pounce", etc.
Feats are from older sets not used in Modern Age Format

1 Damage if multiple targets in range
Otherwise full damage
I believe the damage is not unavoidable just real hard to avoid. Other effects outside the LoF could cause the damage to be avoided.

Giant Reach extends the range of Close Combat Attacks to 2 squares.
Yes see the PAC entry for Quake
"...targets all opposing characters this character can attack with a close combat attack."

No it does not mean they are based

I think that was ruled that they still need to interact with the Web Special Terrain markers.
Check the PG for more info...I can get back to you on this.

Powers are not optional, but ignoring pushing damage with willpower is. ("may")

I know others have already answered, but not all of their answers are completely kosher. Here's my own additions.

The hindering terrain bonus only adds +1 no matter how many squares of hindering terrain are crossed, connected or not.

If outwit is countered, any power it had countered would immediately return. Also, it is important to note that outwit does not cancel powers, it counters powers. Canceling is an older game term no longer used, but it has much different applications.

Feats are cards with point values you can assign to figures on your force by paying the points. If the assigned character meets the prerequisites for the feat, they get extra abilities and things they can do. They are in the player's guide and print and play section of Heroclix.com.

Pulse Wave is not 1 unavoidable damage. Unavoidable damage is a specific type of damage. Pulse Wave attempts to draw line of fire to all characters within range. All characters it succeeds in drawing line of fire to then have all of their powers ignored. Pulse Wave deals 1 damage to all hit characters, or full damage if there is only a single character. Since all their powers are ignored, the 1 damage typically goes through. However, there are a few characters that cannot have their defense power ignored, which means Pulse Wave has no effect on that character other than just dealing damage like a normal attack.

Quake says in its description that the character using it targets all characters it can normally hit with a close combat attack.

They are only tied up if they are adjacent.

Any character that can automatically breakaway will breakaway automatically from web tokens. Keep in mind that leap/climb and phasing were recently changed to no longer automatically breakaway. Now those powers ignore characters, so they breakaway from characters just fine, but not anything that isn't a character.

No powers are optional. All powers are always in effect. Any powers that require an action are only activated when you give an action specifically to activate. Some powers may have an option built into it. In this case, Willpower says "This character may ignore pushing damage." The word may indicates you can choose whether or not you want to ignore your pushing damage.

Reading Possession I would say he returns cleared, however I am not really familiar with the mechanic.

I believe action tokens stay with the character (and are cleared normally) whether that character is on the map or off the map.

CLEARING ACTION TOKENS
At the end of your turn, after you have finished taking and resolving all of your actions (including free actions that occur “at the end of your turn”) and declared your turn to be over, remove all action tokens from each of the characters on your force that did not receive an action token this turn. This is called “clearing” your action tokens.
So just ask yourself, "Self, did I give character X an action token this turn?" At no point in that description does it care if the character is currently on/off the map... just whether or not you gave them a token this turn.
So, chances are, by the time Jericho is placed back on the map, he will be clear. Unless you somehow place him back on the map the same turn he was given the action token.
