current PG talks about the bucket of water specifically saying "when not held" to be treated as water terrain. I'd say yes, given how characters holding the lanterns get their benefits and make the effects mobile, especially since that has come up in a few conversations elsewhere in the rules and team forums. cant give any specifics offhand though.

Objects that have no effect when held specifically say so.
However, what chris was referring to is the bit of boondoggle where the Bat Signal requires your characters to be adjacent to the Bat Signal... and if it is held, how, exactly are they adjacent?
you say this as if it has been Threaded to death before lol
if it has, can someone post the Threads for me so i can just read them myselves
This is in the rule book:
"The abilities of the special object continue whether the object is being held or occupying a square, though some objects may specify that their effects are ignored when they are held."
So if it doesn't say otherwise, held objects are still "working" when held. Now here's the problem: normalview posted that a held object is, basically, in limbo: it doesn't occupy any square. So if the object has an effect that works based on a range, there's no way to determine the range because you don't know where to measure from when it's being held. To use your example (the Bat Signal was actually the object discussed) if you need to be more than 8 squares away how do you know which figures qualify when you don't know where to measure from? That's the problem, the issue is I believe under discussion for a resolution that will address this without breaking something else.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

ok i understand what yall are saying about the Bat Signal
are you also saying something like the Lantern Objects still have their abilities active while being help, but since it is being help and in "limbo" you couldnt figure out the 4 square grid to determine the area of its effect?
i just read the other Thread and had this answered thank yall

Im unsure as to why it can't be PG'd that items with active effects, when held, treat the holder's square as their square for purposes of range, adjacency, etc. This seems the most logical, Im sure someone's had to mention it...
Conversely, it could also break a few rules and make it that if their effects were to be used, the item would forcibly be dropped into the square of the holder. doubt that'd happen though.
