To begin with: I DON'T DISLIKE TAXIS. I think the rules are FINE. I'm not pitching this as an idea to implement in all the world courts. But here's twist on the taxi debate.
What would the game look like if the current taxi rules were sc'rapped; instead all figs would be afforded a limited ability to "taxi"? I don't have it templated in rulespeak, but here's the gist...
Instead of "carrying", use the keyword "coordinated movement". In essence, ANY character could taxi another fig a distance no greater than the speed of of the slowest fig, and only into areas accesable by both figs. For example, a pair of Leap/Climbers would have free run, but a leap/Climber paired with a thug would not. Flash taxiing the R Invisible Girl would only be able to move 6 squares.
The idea is to diversify the playingfield so you don't have to include fliers on a team. Also, it becomes a mechanic representing teamwork, so the fanboy "Wasp couldn't carry Hulk" contingent might find some peace.
I've never played MK, but I like the idea of formations. You wouldn't have to have figs paired into taxi + fare; you could have larger groups moved about GL style.
GL team ability could then be used to override the distance limitation.
Formation movement in MK doesn't let just any bunch of figures move together. They all have to be members of the same team in order to move in formation.
My understanding (could be wrong about this, cuz I've never played MK) is that formation movement allows team members to move using one action, but they all still receive an action token (like MoE team ability works with attacks). So, it's not really like taxi'ing - it doesn't allow any of your figs to both move and attack in the same turn.
This is the fundamental difference between MK and HC (again - based on what I've heard) - HC allows a way around this basic rule mechanic.
