I pulled my first CT unique last weekend it was a Nick Fury. I was kinda disappointed because there are so many other CT uniques that i want. So my question is; is there any other way to use him besides massing with smaller sheild people? Because my philosophy is if your going to pay all those points to help one smaller fig, why not just pay a bunch of points and pay for something bigger instead?
Fury is amazing. The figure itself is solid, and worth every point. But the reason he's so powerful (almost .... borken?) is because almost everyone seems to underestimate him. He's a great pest early on, and with some minor ranged support, you can usually keep people out of his face. About mid-game I start pushing him every so often, with the hopes that in the late game I'll have the awesome Running Shot/Outwit combo. And then he gets Mastermind toward the end of that, which makes it easier for him to stick around until a medic comes near, and to deny your opponent the 62 points. Plus he keeps 2 damage for 6 out of 7 clicks.
I think he's very dependable, and he makes it onto a good amount of my teams - even the non-Shield ones. People look past him, and then soon enough it's too late to do much about him.

Nick Fury is one of those Marvel icons I wish HC had made a little better (See also: Vision, IC Spider Man, Captain America, Red Skull), so you'd actually be getting your points' worth for playing a character you liked.
He's not awful, but
-Clicks 1 and 2. Attack 10 and 9, Stealth, Leadership makes him ok...You've got a stationary piece (Figure he's Stealthed) who can hit pretty easily but only for 2 damage - He can be outmaneuvered, or ignored by Invulnerables. Fury's best use at this point is his Leadership.
-Clicks 3 and 4. Speed 6 means basically "Walking Shot" - Something, but not great. Attack 8 is still decent and Outwit of course is great. But with 13 or 14 defense, your opponent is going to eliminate him in a hurry.
-Mastermind is almost wasted at the bottom of the dial. Maybe it can keep him alive until he gets healed. He'd be infinitely better if MM was on those 1st 2 clicks.
Shield Team ability could also help (e.g. boost a nearby heavy hitter while Stealthed or Outwitting), although it's just another facet of the figure that lends itself to mainly defensive, stationary strategies.
I played a 300 pt SHIELD vs Hydra vs AIM vs Skrulls once. I was SHIELD. I didnt win but it was great fun. Alot of minions and a few named guys Fury, Super Skrull, Madame Masque (Hydra), and Red Skull (AIM). I sent Fury in to the bushes supported by and Agent and a Medic while my other Agents went to the otherside and my Snipers and the rest stayed put. the SHIELD ability works GREAT with Fury, like it was said most people underestimate him and in my experience get just within his range from time to time. So I would boost up his attack and hit for 4 damage, sure if I didnt get my leadership it would use all my action but it was worth it to be the able to hit Super Skrull at range. (Red Skull and Masque used the Posin/Mastermind way) I lost to the Skrull Team (Stupid Skrull ability) but it was fun.
Next time, remember that Fury can use both shots with SHIELD boosting each. 1 shot for 4 is good, but not as good as two shots for 3 - especially against Mastermind.

As for having Mastermind on the first two clicks -- nah. You generally don't want to keep him there all game. Maybe if he had it on the third and fourth, but as it is he's one of those figs who takes a someone respectable Shield team and turns it into a threat.
Yeah. He and Clay Quartermain are both amazing for their costs, when run properly. Also remember that Fury's RS means he can wander over to a medic before he shoots, or even run over to another SHIELD figure, and use their damage bonus.

Pair him with Exp. Wasp and R. Invisible Girl and you have a great team. Throw in some Shield guys to boost damage and that could be a fun game to play.
