Can a flying figure pull a figure out of close combat with an opponent with elascticity?

Yes as long as the flyer is not based by an opponent.

but do you have to role a 6 to break away?

Help, the last question was from my girlfriend who will not believe I can pull cyclops away from sandman without having to roll.

If your flyer is not based by an opposing figure you need no break-away roll. If the flier is based then a break-away is needed by the flier. If the flier is based by a plasticity figure a 6 is needed to break-away!
In your case cyclops would not have to roll break-away only the flier would if it is based by Sandaman.

Cyclops nor the flier need to break away if the flier is doing the moving and taxiing Cyclops.
