let's say im on my second turn and i have 2 characters already 5 squares away from my starting area, at the beginning of my turn i drop as free action a hammer on one of them and i pick it up free with splitlip, then i give a power action to splitlip to drop another hammer on my other character, Can he pick it up as a free action too? i though that only the first time i pick up a hammer having splitlip would be free, but reading his power it doesnt say once for turn:

if this is the case, both characters would attack on my 2nd turn having a hammer assigned to them?

Yes, you can pick up both hammers as free actions. Yes, both will be attacking with hammers already equipped. That is exactly how those two interact (split lip and the book).
