Just wanted to get clarification on the Captain's power.

A friend asked me if you could more a character adjacent that had zero action tokens.

I ruled that you couldn't, because it says you have to remove an action token in order to place the character.

His contention was that he is still selecting that character as the target to have a token removed, that character just doesn't happen to have a token.

I'd side with him; that 2nd part is just a "twist" on how Leadership normally works, but if the figure has no token, there's nothing to remove.

I'd say no. Removing an action token is a requirement for the placing and how can you remove an action token if the character has none?

It honk because it says remove THE action token, it's referring to the instance of who you can remove it from, not actually the removal of the token.

But I can see it going both ways.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!: Captain America can use Leadership. When he does and the result is 6, you may place a friendly character with the Avengers keyword, a lower point value, and within 4 squares adjacent to him, but only if you remove the action token from that character.

The bold line pretty much spells it out.

I think so too, but I could see it going the other way.

Was hoping to get one of those official weigh-ins, especially see the vote seems to be split.

For now, I'll just rule it as I see it.

As worded, I would say that the chosen character would need to have one or more action tokens assigned to it for it to be removed in order for it to be chosen for the effect. If it does not have any action tokens assigned, then it can not be chosen.
