I just saw the preview of Mordu at http://heroclix.com/wp-content/uploa...056-Mordru.jpg and his trait is very interesting... once per game, you can give him a double-power action to bring a relic from outside of the game into his square. Now, I know that during the setup, you can't place relics within 5 squares of a starting area, but what about by this trait? Can he bring one in while he's in the starting area? And since he doesn't start the game with a relic, could he also use a resource and pull said relic into the game?

Mordru can place a Relic anywhere, including underneath himself in your starting zone, as the only object placing limitation is for start of game placement. Everything else is only restricted as it says it is (ie. Book of Skulls inherent limitation.)
Mordru (or a teammate) can be equipped with a Resource and still allow him to bring a Relic into the game.

Yes, placing objects at the beginning of the game has specific restrictions, but after the game starts nothing is limiting those or any other objects from being placed elsewhere. It is similar to the situation with standard objects have to be placed in Clear terrain, but once the game has started you can drop an object in hindering. Yes, that rrestriction is also to just the force building. From the Player's Guide:

The restriction against including special objects on your force applies at the time you construct your force. Game effects which would bring a special object onto the force during the game may be used.

True enough... too bad he can only do it once per game, but at least he can pick up most of them with a very narrow margin for missing when you add a Thule Society priest, too.

With enough boosts to your roll is it possible to pick up a relic on a roll of '1'? Or is that always autofail?

There is no Critical Miss for picking up an Object. If you have enough bonuses you could pick up a relic on any roll.
