Is there anything stopping me from switching the positions of characters on the AVX team bases to get the ones i want in the position i want for a really sweet asset dial roll?
say for instance if i took two figures off for solo adventures, would i have to have them rejoin in the same spots or could the swap positions when they rejoined the team base?

There is nothing stopping it, but there is nothing allowing it either.
During force construction attach who you want in whatever slots you want. During the game, nothing lets you change positioning for arbitrary reasons. You could solo adventure two characters and then reattach them in each others' positions.
Is there anything denoting which position is 1, which is 2, and so on?

Yes, if you look closely there are numbers on the base denoting which slot is which. I'm mainly posting to bump this thread in the hopes of some kind of response.
Is the position of a given team member on a variable-makeup team base part of your force build, or can it change from round to round in a tournament? During a match?
Currently, no rule states you must clarify where figures are attached during force construction, simply whether or not they are attached. Hopefully rules team will check the intent of this one with GD and report back an answer.

Hmmmm. Good question. I honestly have no idea. I looked through all the wordings and nothing really seems to indicate either way. My gut says that because we have nothing to say you can put it into a different slot, it would have to be the same slot. I sort of feel like an X-Men Team Base with Magik in slot 1 is NOT the same as an X-Men Team Base with Magik in Slot 2. But it definitely bears some clarification.
aqhoffman- greatest post possibly ever
jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.
It just like switching the ig between figs between each round you can't chance who goes where or add any other figs from your team.
As the IG is a resource and we're discussing a team base, I don't think they're anything alike.
I can't even begin to speak on intent, because clearly no one even thought of this. I just got out my X-Men TB to see if it mentioned anything on the card and it doesn't. The other TBs solved this by making it so each character would only fit in it's designated slot. Just on a hunch I would say they are supposed to stay in the slots you start them in, but no rule says ya have to.
The basic rules saying once you have assisted feats or resources or team bases to your team you can't switch them between rounds.
I am almost 100% positive that there is nothing in the "basic" rules concerning team bases that have multiple possible characters for each slot. That would be amazing since these bases just came out and there was no possibility of changing the position of your characters on the base before this.

Clearly, you haven't played against my team bases. I make a game out of putting as many team members in the wrong spots because nothing used to designate who went where. Put GL at the computer of a JLA base and the screen looks like a construct!
I think what you mean is it was never previously relevant who went where. Anyone could go wherever you wanted. Technically, you really didn't even have to attach them in the pegged slots. Just jam one of their fists in there until it stops falling over.

Right, that's what I'm saying. There's no rules about having to put anyone in their "designated" slot. Before the new bases it didn't matter, so why would they make such a rule. For someone to say its in the "basic rules"..... the Core Rulebook doesn't even have any mention of team bases.
Why shouldn't you be able to customize your team base, though?
After all, you are not required to put your characters in the same configuration in the starting areas each game. You can position them how you wish to take advantage of different terrain features (and your opponent's characters) each game.
As another example, you are not required to assign the same Fragments to the same characters when you use the Phoenix Force, either. If in round 1 of a tournament you want to leave Colossus on the base and give all your assigned character Invulnerability, but leave Magik on for her Mystics-lite in round 2, that's perfectly okay.
I am not saying this was intended to work this way, but since we can in fact customize our team in some ways each game, it seems foolish to automatically assume that "nobody thought about this" when in fact it could be quite purposeful that we're not told to put them in the same spot each time.
Yeah, pretty sure you can change them as needed to set stuff up. For instance, Emma might be great for spot 1 to keep you from getting psyblasted, but on a tighter, blocking-heavy map, you might prefer Colossus to allow you to charge through hindering.
Of course, asset rolls can change all of this, so...shrug.
