To find out what team Scott used as well as who the other top players were keep reading....
This event was awesome! Everyone seemed to have a good time! We didnt realize we would be competing with Magic, Pokemon and CVF prerealeases, as well as our shops Board Game Day, Saturday Scuffles (Fighting Video Games) and a League of Legends Event. We had 21 for the Main Event, including 3 from our venue and 13 for the side event (7 of which were our locals who did not want to play in the Main Event).
The players were beyond awesome dealing with the amount of people around and the tournaments few hiccups. We started around 10:15, had four rounds of swiss, a small lunch break, and then the Top 16 and Side Event. Everything wrapped up just around 7 which was right we were aiming for. I have to give a big shout out to Alex Avila for taking a couple of local youngsters under his wing and showing them the trick he was going to use in the top 16 while we waited for it to stop. These two were only 9 but have been playing for a couple of years and frequently beat some of our adult players. They couldn't stop talking about how a former World Champ showed them some moves. His crew took most of the top positions with Scott winning it all in some pretty intense battles. The NOVA Crew responded well to the few times we had issues, IE the question of what happens when someone pushes to KO an opponents final piece, and they themselves push to KO, and the orange text in maps not being in effect.
Nick Peterson was hilarious all day trying to make me work by making up questions such as "Can I push?" or "Whats a dial?" Big thanks to him for keeping things light in an potentially stressful day.
The Morgantown crew took the top two spots of the Side Event with Tim Bold winning Fellowship for his letting a relative new player finish an action he hadn't declared yet as time expires, knowing it would probably cost him first and second place.
In a venue with over 200 people it sometimes heated up, so we treated the players to soda and pizza.. (though the pizza was after the lunch break )
I couldn't have pulled this off without the help of Jason White. He stopped playing clix over a year ago, but specifically studied the rules and errata just to give me a helping hand!
I want to offer a heart felt congrats to Scott, he faced some hard battles and behaved like a champ the entire day.
Interesting Tidbits:
Ross had Beat Tony in round 4 of Swiss, neither person made any changes and then faced each other in the top 16 with Tony getting his revenge!
Alexa Avila Snuck in at 16th place before the cut, but had a huge amount of points.
We had one random guy who was either possibly inebriated who spent a few minutes staring at Shuma Goraths eye and laughing before walking on.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Seeing my name there at 16th place amuses me to no end, it really does.
But still, despite that, it does also kinda make me feel bad. I really had less than no reason being in that spot. It was basically blind luck that got me there, and someone better at the game than I am probably should've had my place.
Back to things that I've said before though, it really was an absolute blast. I had a great time playing, hanging out, talking with people, and otherwise having a great time. There are definitely worse ways that someone could spend a Saturday, and with as good a time as it was, I'd be hard-pressed to come up with a significantly better way to spend it.
Walk with me, for I am . . . The Phantom Stranger!
This event was sooooooo much fun. Tons of fun and skilled players, varied teams, witty reparte etc. The judge, Mike, was a pleasure to deal with along with his assistant judge. It's a bit of a hike coming from Virginia, but I will try to drag Team Rubicon to any big event being hosted by Mike. Also, for anyone near that area, the Four Horsemen shop is one of, if not THE, coolest venue I have seen.
Shout out to Scott for winning the whole thing, Dre for utilizing calendar man, Addison for taking 3rd at his first big event, Matt for switching up the armor theme team with an dc10th blue beetle, and Tony for breaking away from his family barbeque to whip out an awesome emerald empress/gates combo.
Does anyone have a re cap of the final match? or pairings?
Also, does anyone know if Nick was using the nighcrawler to activate handcuffs from the belt?
During my semifinals match with Nick and from his finals match with Scott, I don't remember him utilizing the handcuffs and his quarterfinals match ended long before my match ended with Dre. Nightcrawler was mostly there as a grab-n-go piece to take pieces into range of the Warbot and Bizzaro. The finals map was the temple with alot of hallways (can't remember exactly) and Scott used Kuurth's Hammer to bust through the walls to get Leech and Lightspeed out of the way. A hammer quake took care of Bizarro and for awhile it was swing and miss through Nightcrawler's SC and SS but eventually the pair of Iron Men hit their mark. Congratulations to everyone in the top 16, amazing venue, amazing time, and a huge shoutout to the NOVA crew (and one former who is in NY now, Tony) for nabbing 6 of the top 8 slots.
