I was told the other day that you can start the game with hammers attached to your character if you pay the cost. I asked him to show me in the rules and he couldn't. I've heard this before from other players where I play. I've looked it over and over again, I see nothing that would suggest that you can start the game with a relic attached (Normally, I know there are some characters that can. This is not that.). Could it be somewhere else, I've been wrong before?

RELICS
Certain immobile objects are listed as a “Relic.” A relic will be listed with a range of numbers. Relics can’t be destroyed.
If a character occupies the same square as a relic, that character may be given a poweraction to roll a d6 that can’t be rerolled. This roll is called a relic roll. If the result of that roll is within the indicated range of numbers (or higher), the relic is assigned to that character, placed on that character’s card, and the character will gain certain abilities, as described on the relic’s card.
When a character with a relic on their character card is defeated, place the relic in the square they last occupied.
At the end of the game, if an opponent’s character has a relic on their card or all of your characters have been defeated, victory points for the relic are scored by your opponent.
I don't know what that guy was talking about. The only relic I know of that you can have attached at the beginning of the game are the Phoenix Force fragments. And thats only when you play them on the resource. But I think there are a few items that let you attache them to specific figures. There is a Wonder Woman who can start with her lasso, but they are all figure specific.

Right, but these were hammers and I read the rules and the player guide, found nothing. I was just checking to see if I missed something. Thanks
I agree with Red King... sounds like someone at your Venue REALLY misunderstood something and it just spiraled from there. No figure can start the game with a Hammer... BUT the Worthy figures will drop a Hammer when they are KO'd and if they use their revert power, the replacement gets the Hammer for free (both from outside of the game).
There are a handful of figures that can start with their relic assigned (the already mentioned Wonder Girl and her Lasso, Harvest and his Staff, Scorpio and the Zodiac Key, Emerald Empress and her Eye, etc), but that doesn't translate to everything.
If this is happening at your Venue, you need to talk to your judge and make sure they announce that you can't start with a Hammer equipped, but you have to roll to pick it up (or use the Book).
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????

Yea, we have a lot I think it's play way rules and it drives me nuts sometimes. So I printed out the Players Guide for the store and I bring my rule book and PAC that I have highlighted all over in.
Sounds like my first venue when I started there... it was just a few players that played their own way and either misunderstood some rules or made up their own, but when they taught me, they didn't tell me that they were house rules, just gave them to me as "the rules"... took me a couple years (and being a judge making a couple wrong rulings based on them) until I found out how many "house rules" I was taught as rules. :-s

Yup, just about the same. I had one tell me I take water damage for being in water and not being a swimmer or flier. That's when I started saying where is that in the rules!

After looking at your profile, I should ask... are you in Bismarck where this is happening? The gaming group that introduced me to the game is from Fargo... maybe some of the same antics or maybe some of them moved and taught a new group? :-s

Yea, I play in Bismarck. That maybe a possibility.
