I'm confused about the phoenix resource wording


So when I assign a shared to a character at the beginning of the game it says that the shard becomes a relic assigned to that character at no cost

So my question just to be sure is: when I assign a shard I use the blue and white side of the card that grants them the stated effects with poison and flight? I think I do but I'm new to all this relic and resource dial stuff and want to stay competitive

You are right it gets assigned as a relic (the blue/white side). If you leave a shard on the base and you want to use that power you use the yellow/gold side.
