Hi I just started playing the game and I love it. Took many attempts from various friends to get me to play but, I'm glad I finally caved. (my wallet isn't very happy however So I got a 500 point modern age tournament with no resources, no tactics coming up and I really want to do well. So far really only have done well in 300 point tentpole (Soloman grundy/bizzaro mostly) builds depending on phenix force or willpower from green lantern. I don't have much experience playing figures without indom or willpower so I am a little worried. Here is my build
dpff006r mercy
gotgm star-lord 101
Big Bertha
teen titans jinx
cerise
The weaponer of Qward
What I am thinking is it would be good to have two probs and 2 toons to make barriers so I can clear. Mercy also can be used as a great taxi. Then I got qward as a main attacker and bertha to prevent him from getting tied up or tie up others. Then star lord and cerise are cheap secondary attackers. What you all think? Does anyone have any advice on different figures or help me with some strategy? I have the following figures I think are worth mentioning.
black talon
cat
starbolt
shang-chi
dp punisher
weasel
blue lantern recruit
destiny
senator robert kelly
dp blink
bizarro
banshee
melter
moira mactaggert
005 Wolverine
unicorn
bullseye
copycat
watxm havok
resurrection man
grasshopper
karu-sil
fantomex
tiamat
watxm jean grey
009 catwoman
edward nigma
brother hymn
zilius zox
kyle rayner
solomon grundy
zombie doctor octopus
2x blind al
bill agent of aim
takion
jlsg superman
jlsg wonder woman
evil deadpool
hannu
persuader
103 gamora
104 drax the destroyer
universo
slosh cheetah
science police officer
dp non-zombie venom
zombie red skull
zombie kingpin
star saphire guy gardner
red guy gardner
indigo sinestro
laira prime
tomar tu
sister sercy
blue lantern recruit
moira mactaggert
superior spider man (3 common bots 1 uncommon)
any help on making my build better or gameplay suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
I think your team and strategy are sound, though it's not quite the type of team I like building; I like comic accurate teams, or fun team ups I wish could happen, like Batman and Captain America teaming up. However, off your list I saw a number of figures I think would be great in your team.
I'd probably try witching out a character (maybe Star-Lord) for Karu-Sil (amazing tie up piece and secondary attacker) and although I haven't seen one in action, that Cat seems too damn good to pass up using. I know nothing about Resurrection Man, but I've heard he's awesome. Tiamat is just a beast, but I donno if you want to sink that much into 1 guy.
This is what i'd do based on how it sounds you play:
The only thing I see this team really missing is Outwit and TK/more carriers. Still, looks fun. Mainly though, I think you should fit in Takion and/or Karu-Sil because I've used Sil and she's an MVP and I've seen Takion used to amazing results each time he's on the board.

can't wait to try it out. The only other thing I thing I would try switching out is red guy gardner is completely bonkers with charge, flurry, sidestep on the first dial for shang chi. Actually won me my first draft tonight. As for karu sil my friend plays her all the time with willpower from green lantern. He had the dogs kill a full life resurrected grundy in one power action of attacks.
In that tournament I did the post for is over karu's dogs weren't allowed because it was no tactics because I was going to play her. I ended up taking out big birtha for the ion I just pulled went on destiny (i pushed her to give my team willpower) and paralax on cerise. Everything worked out beautifully. Starlord and cerise really worked great buffing each other. Destiny really scared people but, I was not happy with 50 point mercy at all. I lost my first game because I didn't know rules based on elevation. My second game I dominated, then I dropped because I thought I would be better for me to watch the finals.
you mentioned tiamat how would you run him in like 300/400 point teams with resources? I was really curious about him but I believe you can't tk peanut bases, so I didn't know how to use him/ get him in position. I have access to phoenix force, green lantern, white lantern, and hopefully black if I can get my hands on a ring I also have ion, paralax, and ophibian.

What does "no tactics" mean? Isn't this how game tactical?

Well, for Tiamat I'd used the old tried-and-true method of first turn moving into position and second turn attacking. And hey, he's a transporter so you might as well use that 10 movement and just make a move-and-attack roll once your next to em. Sure that sweet 12 attack becomes a 10, but it's still a 10 attack and you did just move 10 spaces. You can always smack em next turn thanks to Power Cosmic TA.
Also my friend, you have a lot of crazy pieces for having just started. How'd ya get all that? Hell, I can't even get one entity and your rocking 3! lol
Also, if you recall, you PM'ed me about wanting me to trade you my black ring. I never heard back from you when I sent a reply, was that something you still wanted to do? I'd be happy to work out a trade, as I don't have a black lantern (and probably won't ever thanks to it being only at cons), so I'd be willing to trade it away for something I did want.
Oh and I agree about Red Guy. I didn't see him on your list. But yeah he's a great cheap fighter. Can you picture the damage though if Guy Charged with Flurry while carrying Shang-Chi. Chi has Empower and I'm pretty sure the Empower is setoff because you placed him next to you when ya make the attack, so now your rocking 12 attack with 4 damage Flurry and next turn Chi can bring his own pain. I checked in the Unit Section and together they come to 178, so that's a pretty damn good investment if ya ask me. Just find a good solid ranged character to back em up. I see ya got Bullseye, so toss him in and your 12 points shy of 300.
A piece I highly recommend is the SatLoS set Starman. He's a solid ranged attacker with amazing defense and top dial TK. He also happens to be on my list of top favorite characters (he's from my favorite comicbook series), but I'm just recommending him because the piece is great for your team.

(Special) Pop Culture Collector: After objects have been placed, you may place any 2 objects in each other's squares. Starman modifies his relic rolls by +1.
(Special) Star Rod and Jujitsu: Starman can use Energy Shield/Deflection and Super Senses. When he is targeted with a close combat attack and either evades it or it misses, give the attacker an action token after actions resolve.
Check that! If you use Starman, Red Guy and Shang-Chi you have 27 points left over. That's room enough for you to toss your Ion on one of those fine folks in 300, or you can take advantage of Starman's trait and use a special object. Motherbox and M'Kraan Crystal are my favorites to use with him
Anyhow, just some ideas there man. I really think you'd like Starman though based on everything he brings to the table.
