Typically, you would solo adventure Warlock. This gives you the 195 point team base and 164 point Warlock on the board for a total investment of 200 points. Warlock can double Perplex himself or the team base. He can also function as a single square vehicle and use the ram ability for free damage.
Copycat is ok with the base, assuming your opponent has something to swap with. I like Shatterstar with it for his Alpha-Striking offensive capabilities.

I think most people nowadays favour Magik and either Sunspot or Magma.

Magik and Magma are both great, but I still like my free damage and better defense.
Not quite sure why you are describing Warlock's Ram ability as "free damage". It doesn't turn him into a Cop Car.
Ram: Give this character a move action; it may only move along a direct path and it can't change its orientation. After actions resolve, make a close combat attack as a free action that targets all opposing characters that were moved through. Each hit character is dealt this character's damage value and deal this character 1 unavoidable damage for each 100 points of characters dealt damage during the movement.
He still needs to hit and will likely take damage himself for doing so. Dishing out 4 damage to more than one figure is obviously pretty good but I wouldn't describe it as "free".

I suppose I should be more clear. I wasn't implying that he becomes a Cruiser(love those too). I simply mean that he can pull off this little stunt, and pop back onto the base if need be, then do it again later. The double PP is obviously no slouch as well. The fact that he's nearly the point value of the base itself makes him a "free" character on the map.
I understand that you can put a similar point value on the board in two characters with "option b," so "option a" might not appeal to some players like it used to. We all have our own playstyles.
In fact, I'm just worried about the fact their is no alpha striker quickly usable.
Ok, Magik can double her speed value, but can attack in the same turn, like figurines she carried.
No Tk too for helping alpha strike.
Only the base who pop the Mutants at the start.
Yes, agree with youS. There is several solutions. I don't find the way to dynamise this team. I will try again.

The New Mutants aren't an alpha strike sort of team, not played at 200pts anyway. You need to spend your first turns solo adventuring and then move up likely using Magik to carry whoever else you dropped off the base + copycat (if you are playing her). New Mutants + Copycat is a top level team and has featured in Nationals and ROC events but is a little slow to get going so might not suit your particular play style.

The real power of the team base is in sheer numbers. Its not going to alpha strike like crazy or play itself like some other teams do. But the fact that you have a 13 click 200 pt character (which is already good) on the map that can essentially "make" up to 2 other top dial figures (who are no slouches i might add) adding 178 points to your 300 pt force, and then potentially prevent them from dying more than once and when it does landing them on some pretty powerful clix. Not to mention that every time the base KOs an opposing character it gives the entire other team an action token AND if you get lucky on the asset dial it can free action smoke cloud and use stealth every turn lol...its pretty awesome...
One of my favorite pieces in the game. I usually run shatterstar with it. Pop off magick first. Then I wait till I either need sunspot or magma depending on the situation. Magma is a monster if someone stupidly ties up the base.
