If a character gets hit for 3 damage and hits a stop click after 1 or 2, would they still have taken 3 damage to activate an indigo tribe compassion action like:
COMPASSION: REDEMPTION: When a non-adjacent friendly character within 6 squares takes 3 or more damage, after actions resolve, if that character hasn't been healed this turn, you may place Sinestro adjacent to that character and heal that character of 1 damage. That character can't be attacked again this turn even if this power is lost.
I'm not totally sure if that's the case. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that they still technically took the full 3 damage.
I would think it would be the same as Toughness, for example. If you're dealt three damage, you only take two. As such, I think Nordles got it right. But, I mean, if there's evidence to the contrary it wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong.

No. Damage taken refers to the actual amount of times the dial is clicked.
Nordles is correct.

The amount of damage a character takes is always considered the specific number of clicks applied before stopping. If a character is KO’d or has a game effect that causes the clicking to stop, the damage taken is determined accordingly.
