I'm most concerned about what Resources are the "best". I'm still fairly new to HeroClix, but I've been attending matches at my store twice a week. The guys I play with keep referring to certain games (like the Worlds tournaments, which I've read about), but I can't really find a lot of lists for forces in games that happened this year. Weren't there A LOT of tournaments because of the WizKids Opens and stuff?
There is limited strategy discussion for heroclix. This is because in many venues, and certainly on this website, the casual or comic book oriented players outweigh the competitive or strategy oriented players.
You can look at a limited selection of teams from the ROC events and a search for "Heroclix World Champion" combined with some digging will pull up some historic teams. However the best indicator for what is effective are all the threads complaining about something.
If you see 15 threads pop up complaining about a figure (search for Justice League Team Base to get far more than 15 results) and how it makes the game "unfun" or that the player using it is a "dink" (I have never heard of that away from hcrealms); then as a competitive player you have found what you are looking for.
Just be aware that even with teams FAR below the best, many players will absolutely refuse to play with you in this game. So get to know who you live close to before bothering to try to get "good" at the game. Otherwise you might not have an opponent.
Different resources help with different builds. I recommend getting a variety so you can have some flexibility in what you build. What's best today won't be next week. Get a few lantern power batteries, the phoenix resource, and the book of skulls.
You may want to wait until Wizkids comes back with their latest Watch List updates. Unless you are needed a 300 Modern meta team immediately, the meta will be undergoing HUGE changes within the next month or two once WK releases the erratas on the figures on the Watch List (Entities, Bizarro, Iron Pharaoh, Bill, Agent of AIM, Proxima Midnight).
There is actually plenty of strategy discussion to be had here.
Resources depend on your build style, and what's available to you. Just starting out, the easiest resources to get that are very competitive would be the Phoenix Force and the Green Lantern Power Battery. Both are a bit complex to use (and very different) so if you can, watch a match where one or both are played, hopefully with people willing to explain the strategy and workings of them.
For even more meta-focused discussion, there are a few podcasts out there that are good at lobbing interesting ideas. Dial H For Heroclix is one, Two Clicks from KO is another. I don't always agree with what they say, but they cover a lot of ground a bring up a lot of interesting ideas. I always leave off with ideas for new things to try (though I usually don't get to them!)
Where are you located? Most people have locals on the realms, you might be able to find like-minded people near you.
Maybe we are just lucky here but the only time Ive ever seen someone not want to play someone else was in a LOSH sealed when the Highfather player was playing against a 300 point Bizarro. We have competitive weeks and casual weeks. Some venues are more competitive than others. We also have about an even mix of meta vs comic fans and they all get along for the most part.

Search Youtube for the 'Married With Clix' crew. They are always on top of things. They have a Meta Lab, Dial it up (rules), and a I guess longer podcast of the Meta game as well. Very informative even if you sometimes don't agree with everything. They play games too and post them. The best is also searching Youtube for World Championship matches featuring Daniel Joynes, Alex Avila, George Massu, Patrick Yapjoco, Jake Williams, and Patricia Lam. Higher lever play for sure.

I just started listening to Dial H. My venue straddles a weird line. We have casual days, but our casual days can get pretty intense and competitive. We also have competitive days (especially WoL) but they're a bit more casual. It's very strange.
I'll look into Two Clicks from KO. Thank you.

I'll look up some of the World Champ videos if I can. I looked for "HeroClix World Championship" and got a few videos, but nothing really recent. I'll look for the names, that might help narrow it down.
