Alright I need some help dealing with Jason of Sparta from guardians of the galaxy. I have a friend who has been using him constantly and its been wrecking a lot of my teams since he can park his two or three best hitters right in my face, usually hit right away since he uses figures that can attack as a free action, then because of jason's once per game ability, I cant even hit back since jason and the carried figures cant be targeted. So he usually gets 4-6 hard hits on my team before I can return fire. Any ideas on how to take him out?
His ability reads:
Quote
MY EARLY ADVENTURES WITH SHIP: Jason of Sparta can use Charge and has "wing symbol". When he uses the Carry ability, he may carry up to 3 characters if they each share a keyword with him. Once per game, give Jason of Sparta a free action and he and characters he carried this turn can't be targeted by opposing characters until your next turn.
Get a cheap character that has plasticity from the Flash set(Turtle, Chillblaine, Ragdoll), park them right next to Jason and set up for an attack next turn. Or pulse wave your problems away. I don't know how he is getting away with 4-6 attacks, why don't you just kill Jason?
The characters he carried can't act after they have been carried, so you should literally always have an opportunity to attack before he does if he is abusing that SP. Also, Poison. Grab some Red Lanterns and laugh when he bases you.
I don't think Pulse Wave would work. You have to be able to draw line-of-fire to trigger Pulse Wave. It's similar to why Pulse Wave doesn't work against the Indigo Emotional Spectrum ability.
Also, who is your opponent using that can attack as free-actions?
there are lot of figures that can attack as a free action, therefore, can attack after being carried. Probably his favorite to use are the starter set star-lord and drax. they can each use pulse wave from a square with range and LoF once per game as a free action. As to the 4 or so attacks, assuming he used the 2 aforementioned figures, he carries them within range, they each attack with pulse wave, attack 1 and 2. Jason uses the free action to protect all 3 from being targeted and ends turn. I can do no attacks and pretty much can only run or clear. Then on his turn, star-lord running shots, drax charges or shoots, and if hes lucky and I couldn't/didn't hid everyone, Jason can even push to shoot. Without even carrying 3 figures, that's 4-5 attacks before I can return fire.
why wouldn't pulse wave work to hit Jason? pulse wave would ignore his trait. Currently thats my only defense
I would look into stuff limiting free actions. Green Lantern power battery and white witch are candidates.
However, there aren't that many characters that can take actions after taxi. Your examples of Drax and Star Lord don't work like that.

HADRON ENFORCER: Once per game, give Star-Lord a free action and choose an unoccupied square of clear terrain within range and line of fire. When you do, Star-Lord can use Pulse Wave this turn as if he occupied that square.
That only allows you to place the token for free. It does not let you PW for free. So they have the token placed, gain PW, then take a power action to trigger PW. I'd check the powers your friend is using closely to make sure they actually attack for free.

are you sure the hadron enforcer trait doesn't let you also use pulse wave as a free action?
He is sure, and he's absolutely correct
You don't give Star-Lord a free action to use Pulse Wave, you give him a free action *to make him able to use* Pulse Wave which is an entirely different thing.

From the ashes of Paragon City... it rises!
Pulse Wave: Give this character a ranged combat action even if it is adjacent to an opposing character; the area of effect for this attack is half the character’s range value. Draw lines of fire to all other characters within the area of effect, including at least one opposing character; these lines of fire ignore all game effects except for walls, blocking and elevated terrain. Game effects possessed or used by characters with a line of fire drawn to them are ignored until the action has been resolved. If a line of fire is drawn to more than 1 character, this character’s damage value becomes 1 and is locked. Each character hit is dealt damage.
If you cannot draw line-of-fire to an opposing character, they cannot be given the action to activate Pulse Wave.
You don't give Star-Lord a free action to use Pulse Wave, you give him a free action *to make him able to use* Pulse Wave which is an entirely different thing.
High praise from Melk! Very pleased am I
Your other option would be to alpha strike the hell out of his team. Try this:
Justice League theme team using Big Barda From Batman and Oracle from the SoG Fast Forces. That is 198 points and then you can add whatever you like with the Justice League keyword. Maybe a perplex or two, maybe a Prob Control ... LOTS of options though.

(Special) Boom Tube: Once per game, give Big Barda a double power action to use Phasing/Teleport as if she had a speed value of 12. After actions resolve, you may give Big Barda a close combat or ranged combat action as a free action.
(Special) I Will Stand My Ground: Modify Big Barda's defense value by +1 for each action token assigned to her.
(Damage) Mega-Rod and Mother Box: Big Barda can use Penetrating/Psychic Blast and Quake.

(Defense) Moving the Pieces into Place: Give Oracle a power action and choose another friendly character that shares a keyword with her and has no action tokens. That character is immediately given a move action as a free action with their speed value halved for this action.
Give one action to Oracle and move Barda 5 squares. Then use her Boom Tube to take her (and maybe a friend) to move 10-12 squares. You have now moved 15-17 squares, hopefully picking up an UHO on the way. I would assume that you are now within range of Jason of Sparta. AV 11 plus any perplex, possibly a TTPC from the figure taxi'd if it hasn't take an action of any kind.
Heck - I'd probably even perplex up Barda's attack by 1, damage by 1 and end one square out from Jason and range attack on him. 5 clix of damage and he is off the board. I'd use the individual taxi'd to tie up Jason in case I missed. If you miss, he is still trying to hit Barda's 19 DV.
Mind you - you have just committed a lot of actions to kill a 60 point piece, but I'd bet the look on your friend's face would be great

That prob would be worth the look on his face
But clearly our real problem was using the hadron enforcer trait wrong. With that not being a free acton its not broken
25 points left over for a resource (possibly Indigo w/ the Emotional Spectrum).
Nebula and Thanosi will prevent the Carry ability and not allow opposing characters to ignore hindering on movement. I.S.A.A.C. can Outwit anyone within range.
