So ok, I'm just getting back into clix after about three n a half years hiatus. My modern collection is very limited but i have drafted WF/BvS and traded for some various rogues/robots/and x-men but the better pieces i have would be world's finest duo, jocasta, and new(ish) LEs - White Lantern Martian Manhunter, Punisher, blade, kang, arrowette, and the awesome Lobo... So naturally i want to abuse the awesomeness that is the main man...
I've gotten a phoenix force and thats really my only option right now for modern resources but i plan on trading for a WF nightlantern for 400+ games, and possibly a JL:TW Greed or other sin (sloth/lust/wrath all seem like awesome choices but only sloth could fit on a 300pt) - but one thing is for certain - i can't get any but the cheapest of entity. So while i appreciate any help, any answer that is Ion/paralax/Butch/Oph/Brain isn't going to help me... tho it may apply to others wondering the same thing as I...
just wondering if other resources/allies(I.S.A.A.C seems cool) work well for him in 300pt games and what good amalgams, in 400+pt games, can really make his clones shine
Lobo
Hes so cool...
-----------------
Phoenix Force @30pts fully equipped to Lobo
-----------------
And the D-bag move - but its prolly the best piece i have for points fill
-----------------
nightlantern
tho so far this is all i have worthy of amalgam - plus he looks cool sitting on the sideline-
-----------------
tho it may be best to just use this guy
but i'm really looking for something 9ish clicks with hypersonic and either OW or prob near the top and regeneration on click 7 or steal energy on 6/7 - all for under 194pts is a tall order, but...- i looked at Black Hand and eclipso but theres just not enough cool options but with BH the regen is there... i've looked at shade but yet again not the whole package, wrecker/exodus have steal energy but slim pickins for top dial... Cptn Universe has great choices late dial but not much for top choices... fatality or like GotG Cptn Marvel or AvX White Phoenix Hope will give me 2 out of three (OW&HS/SE&HS) but i want 3/3 n marvel/hope have short dials
do you use Lantern Batteries at all? Blue or yellow ring with Stop Sign is NASTY! Remember, his clones get the standard version of powers he can use. So, they will get unrestricted Perplex and Outwit, in addition to Plasticity.
thats nice and all but it just doesn't compare to phoenix force's bonuses but phoenix is conditional on my opponent not running a 300pt whatever and me never getting to turn phoenix' heat on... thats why Nightlantern would be so cool to do in 400pt+ games so i could line up hypersonic on his 5th click and have a way to self-heal back up to that awesome 5th click... Reverse-flash will prolly be my go to but my only option top 2 is perplex and click #9 is fatal for r-flash...
-----edit: tho i did consider geting the white battery n ring to run with simon baz but it would need to be 400+ so i could get I.S.A.A.C to EE after baseing someone with lobo but then i could prolly squeeze jocasta on Isaac... but i think Nightlanterns the better option...
And furthermore, I don't think the batteries are the best choice for lobo, the spectrum doesn't apply to the clones (which is the main reason i'd run a battery - n only the red, blue,n yellow r really great in my opinion...) and the clones getting unrestricted abilities thing kinda blows if lobo is all by his lonesome, 'cause they are still restricted on him... (OW only speed, de-Plex) I look at that and compare it to something for just a few more points that gives 4+ auto-abilities (unrestricted/1 constant-3+ that change) and combat stat mods - that can only be destroyed by a few piece's abilities, rather than just by pseudo-attacking it... no contest... but I will admit, it would be cool to have a blue for backup while lobo/kang runs around with a sniper... but i think of the batteries as a swiss army pocket knife while phoenix seems more like a flamberge but once u ko a few folks its straight epic... but when lanterns are boosting combat values they are almost dead --- OoooOoo ok i may be wrong but are batteries insanely good in bizarro games?
Please, noone take me the wrong way... Batteries are awesome, maybe i'm just partial to marvel n prefer phoenix... but for lobo it just seems the best conditional choice... I haven't seen any of the teleporters/round table, power core, batteries, sins, or even my phoenix force in action so i'm not positive - but if were going to argue resource vs resource atleast let it pertain to Lobo and/or his amalgam a little...
I like running him with Proselyte, Indigo Battery, and Atomica. Any time he's hurt he can heal almost all the way to full with the clones using support and him using Proselytes ability:
HEART OF COMPASSION: Friendly figures that can use Support may do so even if an opposing figure is adjacent to the friendly figure or the target. When they do modify the result of the 2d6 roll by +2 and don't subtract 2 from the d6 roll.
well yea the pick-a-power on click 2/3/4 sure is nifty but if i was going to drop 50$ on an entity i'd prolly get brainiac but that wouldn't help lobo here... lobo is a 5$ piece... lantern, ring, entity, multiple constructs, ur talking over 100$ r pretty close... i'm trying to be a baller on a budget... tho that ability does seem pretty awesome and thats the entity so i wouldn't even need the battery... n i could prolly fit jean and moira in there for the TK n emergency support... but i think if i get an entity from WoL it'll be predator so i can sing 'Thats the Power of Love' every time i use mindcontrol... and ok, wtf- just noticed proselyte doesn't ever give quintessence ?!?!? bummer...

Proselyte is very powerful, especially when on Lobo. Every clone gets his power, which can become ridiculous, especially when he is constantly healed.
That means all your clones can get outwit with the stop sign and plasticity. You can grant them all exploit weakness or close combat expert. You can get probability control on them all. You can even choose pulse wave although only lobo and a clone with a sniper rifle could use it, which could be 3 pulse waves if done right. Try and proxy it into a fight and see how it plays. There are lots of things you can pull off with this setup.
yea but what i worry about is a heavy hitter next to someone with outwit, atleast with the other entities u can get some quintessence sometimes... ok heres a pretty likely scenario - lobo charges into the fray like the madman he is - ur opponent OW his Def - Hvy hitter hits for 5 or 6 (or more if he has support - 9 kills so a good 1-2 punch wil take him out... tho u would need a second OW) clicks 6&7 for lobo suck... no charge/regen so really only option is to pick the 'healmebiotches' ability of Proselyte, swap out for nurse construct and pray u don't fail to regen or u can run away in a very un-lobo like way... u can poop out one clone, but vs 1 hvy hitter and 1 outwitter it doesn't look good... and if u want the clone for off/def u can't use support with him...
Wait, how are you giving support to lobo anyway..? 'cause Proselyte doesn't give support, just makes it more awesome... and i'm not seeing support anywhere on indigo battery except the recharge the ring power... so i don't think u are playing this combo right... or maybe i'm wrong, but i think u need some way to give lobo support or have other lanterns/support around him to b able to heal him.... unless u just rely on the battery to heal...
I played Lobo with Proselyte and a pink battery. He's great.
To answer how he's getting support, Lobo can choose the pick a power from Proselyte. He chooses a power like Flurry, then pop a clone. The clone can use the pick a power Lobo chose so it can choose a power like Support and heal Lobo. Also it can use the power Lobo chose.
oh wait i c... indigo ring... nvm... but it still isn't as useful (to me) as a redundant def, choice of ranged mystics/RCE(for allies - mainly nightlantern)/TK, and much nicer 'possible' powers like HS,OW,SE, and yes i know constructs can give RCE/TK/limited OW/Exploit/regen/10 range but its just too much of an investment for me both $ wise and points wise, because whats a swiss army knife without a toothpick? just a damn overly complicated pocket knife that all... I say pssh to the whole WoL set, when the hell are we going to get a Marvel set with so many desirables/game-changers? answer-prolly never...
@moonknight naw its gotta be the ring, 'cause if he picks the pick-a-power he can't use the support boost power... and the pick-a-power is only on 2/3/4 and lobo really just needs healing on 6/7...
First thing I gotta say is I fully understand you... it's the same for me, I've decided to be a budget player... specially since Heroclix is very expensive and hard to come by where I live (Cochabamba, Bolivia). About Lobo... he really is The Main Man, and I love to wreck house with him whenever I can. I really feel he's a power house on his own and just needs some support to really shine. I find he is quite vulnerable against ranged attacks and sometimes finds it difficult to get close enough for his Charge. At 194 pts. you really need to be very selective (even more if you want to work on a budget). I find the Star Labs Technician FL007 to be an excellent TKer... whatsmore, if you use 2 you get to 260 pts. of yo-yo attack potential... aditionally, they provide Support on their second click and their Damage SP can let you use Precision Strike to ignore those pesky Mastermind and Super Sense evaders... That leaves 40 pts. left for some Resources (in a 300 pt. game)... my personal favorite "budget resource" just happens to be Pandora´s Box (choosing the Path of the Ravager is perfect for Lobo)... exactly 40 pts. that will provide Sidestep & ESD for Lobo to stalk his preys more effectively... I've sported this build a few times and, furthermost, had tons of fun... my twopence
I really dig the potential of those techs but i can get the same 'yo-yo' effect with just a choice on my phoenix, providing of course i'm running two 'helper monkeys'... the precision is cool, but for a 33pt guy that MAYBE (and thats a big maybe) will live a few turns just makes that opening salvo seem less cool...
Personally i have 3 issues with the box...
1) Random sin beyond those u pick to put on him - kinda cool but still random
2) needs 3 sinners... techs already have SS and ES/D so ur not helping them much and it costs actions to b able to 'empty the box' where the cool stuff n + combat stats are...
and 3) I wouldn't really consider the box a 'budget' piece - I barely consider Phoenix a budget piece 'cause it'll cost ya <10$ while the box will set u back what 30-40$ maybe more as it seems some of the objects r more expensive than the chase sin of the same name...lol...silly dc... I think i'd be better off to get just a greed or sloth chase to run with him...
While you're certainly right on your appraisal, the Technicians are mostly underestimated by oponents and left to be dealt with after focusing on Lobo.
Furthermore, they mostly stay away from the brawl and, as you have pointed out, already come with ESD to protect them from ranged attacks. Trust me, that Precision Strike is gold when dealing with Mastermind and, specially, Super Senses.
Regarding the Sins to equip them with, I usually assign them the "functional" ones... Gluttony on one, not pushed, so she can clear the path for The Main Man, and Greed on the other one (once pushed) so she can hinder the enemy from afar. The first one I assign to Lobo is Pride so he can have ESD and increase his chances of getting a critical.
About the Box, the first click of the Path of the Ravager can give you either Super Strenght or Quake... now, in a well planned scenario:
Turn 1: You assign the relic to Lobo and TK him closer to the opponent. You Teleport the technician who has just TK'ed Lobo so she can push next turn.
Turn 2: Depending on what the opponent did, you have a 50% chance to get Super Strength; Sidestep 2 and then Charge 6 squares with Lobo with 12 AV and possibly 7 DV (+3 from object). You can also reposition him with the Tech, Sidestep 2 and Charge 5 squares with 11 AV.
The thing about the Box is pacing... don't rush for that #9 Click (though it is enticing)... good pacing will allow you to benefit from crazy stuff like Plasticity, Flurry or HSS for Lobo or Perplex and Empower for the Techs (just to name a few)...
That second click on the Techs is great to heal back Lobo; and it really becomes a nightmare since you can leave behind a clone or two still brawling with the opposition... remember that clones can use all the powers that Lobo CAN USE (including those granted by the Sins and the Box)
That's only my take on The Main Man... as I stated before, I have limited access to the minis available (just to give you an idea of how difficult it is, I've only seen Power Batteries online), so I try to get the most of what I have.
I'd say the clones, as bystanders, do not have a chance to benefit from the White Battery since they don't have a dial. They'd simply be removed from the game.
