Now that we have seen the Spectre's dial, can we say that this version of the JSA is playable?
What is your take on this welcome turn considering the previous disappointment with the short dials or lack of split dials?
They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far." Robert Downey/Tony Stark
not at all. since it's still replace then modify, one perplex can help ruin their day. also all the poison in the game now is gonna hurt them. sure you can have KC GL out there but he's expensive. and in all reality since nobody ignores stealth for LOF they're gonna have fits with ppl like harley if she rolls well with shape change. unless one of the three we haven't seen allows you to share without being close, they're trash IMO. why in the world would you NOT give them multiple starting lines. i just don't get it. green lantern and hawkman are just unforgivable.

A Simpler Time: Once per turn for all characters with this trait, if a character uses the JSA team ability to replace its defense value with The Spectre's, that character can use Super Senses for the attack, but only evades on a 6.

Is it figures like KC lantern that you are thinking of?

I realize that Spectre wasn't always portrayed as some uber-entity in the All-Star Squadron, and I'll just accept that the older stories worked similarly, but he was still capable of a good deal more than this dial gives him.
I would have also liked to have seen some different starting lines for many of these characters.
Not just the old school JSA, but for a lot of the characters. 35 points for a 3-click Harley? Great. But why not 50 points for a 5-click Harley for someone wanting a little bit more?
I am not saying that everything should 8-10 clicks deep and cost north of 100 points, just that the main attractions in the game, the heroes and villains, be given more opportunity to be the stars.
The JSA here may all be "good for the points", but there are a whole lot of figures out there that can take them out in a single shot and not really have to work that hard or be that lucky to do so.
Example:
Boomerang is not more powerful than Spectre. Not even Spectre from that fabled "Simpler Time", yet here he is capable of one-shotting him on a slightly above average roll with only shape-change standing between Spectre and the grave.
Again.
I think that making a lineup that can be played at 300 is great, but they should have included some options to let players pick-and-choose a line-up that can be played at that same 300 point level and give them some line-up combinations that could be played at 400, 500, or maybe even 600 as well.
So add that second starting line. There is certainly no shortage of dial space to add a click or four to different characters.
Saving my final judgement til I see Dr.Fate, Johnny Thunder and the SR prime which hopefully is Jakeem Thunder or Thunderbolt.
However... Playable vs Comic Accurate Playable... Playable yes. I plan to play them with a full Pandora's box and assign all the sins, perhaps WF KC GL on the 30 pt line chillin and plexing out where needed. Swarm, share the defenses around, then if your opponent doesn't have enough answers for the swarm hit back.. with whatevers left alive...
Comic Accurate Playable... will still be digging out Origins Sandman, DC75 Alan Scott GL, and Legacy Dr. Mid-nite.

Valid points.
I understand how you feel.... the Modern Age JSA is able to take out beasts like Black Adam and Mordru. I never have read the original JSA comics, but I believe these figures are spot on to the Golden Age standard.
Most of us however grew up on the Modern Age JSA by Goyer and Johns.
I believe we were expecting the Modern team.
Multple starting lines would have been welcome. I don't get it. There are too many figures to fix with the OP kit program. (Unless that is what they want to fix for the next year and a half.)
Stealth for LOF
Dr. Midnite should provide IT:HT when his JSA teammates share his defense value as well as have support.

Everyone assumed the JSA would be next to KC GL with the 20 def, so it doesn't really change much that they are next to Spectre, other than KC GL could do a lot more damage and be more offensive.
It doesn't stop a single Double Target/Triple Target energy explosion from potentially crippling the entire team. It doesn't stop Pulse Wave from ignoring everything. And it doesn't mean the JSA's 1-2 damage attacks are going to hurt anything.
I think the most therapeutic thing we can do is design our own split dials for the JSA. I definitely think that the Simpler Time stat bonuses would likely be broken if they would be used on a JSA team with longer dials. Perhaps if the dials were longer- a 3-6 roll to be able use the bonuses could help.

Here's the thing. If IF all the JSA figure combined make for a decent to good unit, it will be a pain to collect the SRs/primes that make it so. I am so bummed out about this set. I will probably buy what I need for sealed and like 5 additional figures.

Eh, I dunno. 11/19/3 damage ain't nothing to sneeze at. Mind you that's the same offense/defense values of Top dial KC Flash for 40 points on his last click. I think it's pretty good representation of pre-Wrath Of God Spectre: a hard to hit Ghost that supports his teammates up top, then when he wants to ramp up and 'get in the game' he gets pretty good stats

Assumed in a perfect world.
Where people didn't have to shell out 100$ to make their JSA god tier.
Having a nice cheap option helps the team quite a bit for the penny pincher
