In a world where Heroclix is hounded by set after set of DC or Marvel characters, let’s take a moment to stop and dwell on the potential of the Indy sets. We’ve seen Yu-Gi-Oh, we’ve seen lord of the Rings. What could be lurking around the next corner? So many sets from the serious to the wacky remain to be explored! In this edition, the spotlight is on Hot Fuzz!
Fair Warning: This article may contain spoilers about the subject it reviews.
For those of you who are unfamiliar, Hot Fuzz is one of three movies created by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It revolves around a too-efficient London metro cop who is transferred to work in the countryside. There instead of settling down to a cozy life discovers a dreadful conspiracy by the elderly neighborhood watch who murders anyone they consider ‘bad for the village.’
What would the set look like? Maybe something like this . . . Common
001 Nicholas Angel
002 Danny Butterman
003 The Andes
004 Tim Messenger
005 Lurch
006 The Butchers
007 Mr. Webley
008 Tony Fisher
009 Bob Walker Uncommon
010 Tom Weaver
011 Amanda Paver
012 James Reaper
013 Reverend Shooter
014 Robin Hatcher
015 Mr. Treacher
016 Simon Skinner Rare
017 Joyce Cooper
018 Roy Porter
019 Mary Porter
020 Inspector Butterman
021 Robed murderer Chase
022 The Swan
023 Sargent Angel and Horse
Potential powers and Traits: As a set this goes pretty straight forward. Most of these characters are sporting some kind of gun. Thus Running Shot, Energy Explosion, Precision Strike and Ranged Combat Expert are to be expected. Considering all of these people are in fact people I would also expect Shape Change in the mix somewhere.
Keywords: As for unique keywords the biggest one would be the Neighborhood Watch that being the villains of the film. On the more generic side of things we could see the rarely used Police and Reporter keywords.
Character Spotlight
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reverend Shooter
The good Reverend here is somewhat of a famous character within the movie for his signature dual pistols he has hidden up his sleeves. As a click I see a fair amount of support based abilities as Support, Leadership and Perplex backed up by a short range with double targets. Putting him within the role of a support character that if any opposing characters get close he can take care of himself.
Robed Murderer
The primary antagonists of the story, the neighborhood watch alliance commits all their murders under the guise of these robes. Yet, for most of the movie you only see one at a time. In this way the robed figure could represent all of the watch. So I’d love to see an alter ego ability that has multiple options to turn into. That way you don’t know which killer you’re dealing with until you take the mask off. After that as a click a large amount of the murders involve blades or knives, or scythes or . . . shears. So Blades/Claws/Fangs should definitely be in there. I’d also toss in Stealth as they do tend to just sort of pop up.
Mr. Webley
Mr. Webley is an old man who lives off somewhere in the English countryside. In the movie he is known for his nigh incomprehensible way of speaking and a ridiculously large arsenal of weapons in his barn. As a click I see mostly functioning around this arsenal. A suite of support abilities like Perplex, Empower, and Enhancement as he’s just handing out weapons. I’d also like to see a special ability that allows him to add an item from outside the game as he pulls something out of his arsenal. Or laying down a sea mine, because he has a sea mine, in his barn.
The Butchers
These two fellows do relatively little in the film. But their shining moment involves a shootout with the police. Except they aren’t using guns, the police are. The butchers are throwing knives, like a lot of knives, an endless amount of knives. As a click what I’d love to see and always wanted to see is Blades/Claws/Fangs usable at range. These fellows are throwing knives after all.
Why would Wizkids even attempt this?
I’m going to be real honest with you here, because you’re my friend(s), they probably won’t. Ever. As much as I wish this really would happen there is not single reason I can think of why Wizkids would make a set off this movie. But lets just think for a moment how great it would be to have an elderly priest wielding two pistols take on Superman. That’s what I call entertaining.
Didn't see the set the way you wanted to see it? Have an idea for a set in the future? Then please feel free to relax in the conveniently p
Awesome choice for an article, I freaking love this movie.
The Swan Chase was great.
Mr. Webley is awesome and I love your ideas for him. He does have great potential as an armory, and I would love to see that sea mine as a special power or a special object like the Gamma Bomb.
Maybe The Hound... Err... I mean Michael Armstrong could have an SP that gives a friendly character named Simon Skinner free action Mind Control on him. and Mastermind.
Minion: Yarp Characters named Simon Skinner may use Mind Control on Michael Armstrong as a Free action.
And I'd love to see a special figure for Tom Weaver because he was played by Edward Woodward a terrific actor who starred in my favorite movie of all time, The Wicker Man back in 1973. Sadly he passed in 2009, a couple of years after Hot Fuzz.
Anyway, fun stuff indeed. Keep up the good work.
"Big whoop, I'm spooning a Barrett .50 cal. I could kill a building."

"Alcohol may have been a factor."
We're overdue for Wizkids to make Joe on the Lawmaster and other 2000AD characters.

I would totally buy this set and pay for every one of these characters. Also the sculpts would have to be funny and cool at the same time. I would play this multiple times with my dad and at Eternal Games so yeah go Hot Fuzz. P.S Great film/movie
