This week, I will be discussing the S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander from the Captain America: Winter Soldier movie set.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander has one special power:
FIELD TRAINING: When adjacent to a friendly character with the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword, S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander can use Empower and Enhancement.
This special power is situated well on the Commander's dial, being on his second click. He can push to Running Shot while setting up his position to best use the Empower and Enhancement. The dial itself is also great, having good combat values, range, durability, and the ability to pull tokens off of other S.H.I.E.L.D. generics or smaller named figures. His and Energy Explosion, along with his Running Shot makes him a threat as well as a supporting piece. He doesn't have much of a fault, outside of his best power requiring a push.
Since the S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander's main power is based around friendly characters having the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword, playing him with a S.H.I.E.L.D. team is where he is best, and therefore in a theme team. The Commander has access to two ATAs via the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword:
I prefer the 3 point ATA to the other one, as the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ATA is too situational. Adding +1 to your Outwit, Perplex, and Probability Control range is very useful, especially with all the S.H.I.E.L.D. generics that will be using Theme Team Probability Control. I will be using this ATA with the team that I made for the Commander:
This team makes full use of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander's Empower and Enhancement. G.W. Bridge can use Close Combat Expert or Ranged Combat Expert, depending on the situation, in either case benefiting from the Commander. The Captain America and Black Widow duo will either be making close or ranged combat attacks with the Duo Attack ability, also being able to utilize the S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander to his full potential. Before he pushes to his special power, his Leadership will be useful, since this team has more characters than actions. The team is also adaptable, with Falcon being able to choose what he has defensively on the fly, and with you having the option to merge Captain America and Black Widow if one of them is hurt, or if that would suit the situation best. The S.H.I.E.L.D. ATA will also be useful with 2 users of Outwit on the team.
I ran the Gotham City Underworld team with the Hired Henchman last week and went 2-1. I did a write-up on the tournament here.
Thanks as always for reading this article, and I hope to see you in two weeks, where we'll find ourselves in Central City, reviewing the Central City Police Captain.
Doesn't adding Shazam! to your force break theme thereby preventing you from using the ATA in the first place?
If not, then you wouldn't be paying points to assign the ATA to him because he doesn't meet the keyword prerequisite; he would be copying it with his wild card team ability.
BARBARIANS! You stole Gary Coleman's body and slapped Bea Arthur's head on top, no wonder he's angry! -- Cable & Deadpool #11

Wouldn't you want to use the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ATA to move this generic adjacent to whoever needed his Empower/Enhance?
(would that work?)
Also, is this a generic that stands alone, or would you recommend using him in multiples ? (I'm envisioning a bunch of these guys popping back and forth between named S.H.I.E.L.D. figs)
Thanks for this article--I love generics and you always seem to highlight ones I hadn't considered before!
(and I had never seen GW Bridge--oh my -- shenanigans!)

Running 2 seems like it would be solid. Any more than that and you're running more support than dedicated attackers.
I honestly think the articles are getting a little short? Like I'd be fine with a little more time in between them and have them as long as the first Zuvembie article. I just loved having all the ideas in one article for people to discuss and then remember how they played them to add to the discussion. Fewer ideas means people won't necessarily remember how they played them.
