Mystic Toys idea... Walls, walls, and more walls...
This is a 300 PT Modern Limited team that I have been fooling around with and I really am enjoying it. For the most part, Ive only seen crippling loses to Krang and Jakeem Thunder but that has not been a 100% of the time thing.
So the team, WF Green Lantern and Toy Soldier with 2x JW Green Lantern to lay cover, lower the , and remove the stealth.
Toy Soldier is wildcard that takes full advantage of the KCGL's 20 and the JSA bonus from the other 2 GLs. Numerous times I am taking more than 3 actions in a turn thanks to the combo of lowering the of opposing characters and then opening fire from the "wooden" bystanders for 3-6 shots that will deal and possibly ko most of what comes. Additionally, I keep them all near KCGL and have some slight Pulsewave protection.
I have been playing test matches and the store I play with hosts practice ROCs and so far I have enjoyed the most of what this team does.
Positives from playing:
1)KC GL's 20 share to the team makes it really difficult to hit and the possible additional 1-2 added from the JSA share bonus at range makes it even a little more difficult.
2)Basically free attacks, that are for a max 4 damage, All I need to do is hit.
3)Bystanders are great to slow up the pulsewaves and make them only deal one.
4)Toy Soldier doesn't have to stay adjacent to the wooded Bystanders to make another, and the new one doesn't have to either.
Negatives:
1)No prob... A Mystical Theme Team that has no prob is pretty sad
2)Energy Explosion hurts
3)The list is slow to move, but heavy firepower sometimes gets over it, however, they figure out how to kill KC GL they can usually run and hide out the game.
4)That 6th Bystander is tough to get out.
I would love some thoughts on this team. Majority of players that I sit down and play against have been caught off guard by the Toy and his wood but after, they seem to like the way I play it.
Can't go wrong with KC Green Lantern...
I've had some good games with multiple Barriers, and I like Toy soldier too (The first night I played Heroclix at my LGS, they gave me that figure).
The downside seems to be mobility. Everyone is tied down a little bit to take advantage of the JSA TA. And you already mentioned Energy explosion. HsS could also be used to pick of pieces although your range and barriers make that tricky. I guess smoke cloud could cause you some problems, make it hard to put up walls and lower your attacks, but probably not something you see every day.
Mephisto is good. Can give KC GL basically a free prob without the -1 modification. Can also grab opponents and bring them in close to get clobbered.
Wiccan is 90 points of everything Mystical. There is nothing on his dial that is a waste.
I really think Klarion is a better use of 70 points than the 60 you are spending for the Toy Soldier. I know the POG thing and wildcard is likely Toy Soldier's biggest selling point, but Klarion is meta-proven and you would be hard pressed to find a better use of 70 points (of Mystical characters, that is).
Klarion and Wiccan both require losing the second SR GL and the Toy Soldier, but there are perks as well. You could use a special object or two, like Weapon Drop or Symbiote or even one of the Hulkbuster pieces to buff the character.
The only other mystical I would think would fit with this team would be Spider-man Noir, as he is a Wildcard and can use some great powers as well as make ranged attacks out of adjacency. His wildcard would let him use GL's defense and using stealth would only help. Plus he has top dial outwit and his spider's web trait. Not too bad for 75 points.
