How do you use Barrier with no range (as in some versions of Troia)? I can sort of understand Smoke Cloud with no range ala Catwoman (I guess you'd have to put the cloud on your own square), but you can't put a barrier in your own square.
Is there a general rule for ranged powers with a range of 0 (like with Mind Control), allowing them to have a default range of 4, or is Troia's barrier useless?
The first barrier token has to be adjacent to you but the other 3 don't need to be adjacent to you, just touching the previous barrier token. Consider it a way of setting up a defensive shield.
First off, you can't put a smoke cloud or barrier in a square containing a character (not even the character creating the barrier/smoke cloud). In the case of 0 range all the tokens must be placed adjacent to the character creating the barrier/smoke cloud.
You could do:
BBB
XTB
XXX
Or:
XBX
BTB
XBX
etc.
This isn't a general rule for ranged powers with a range of 0, just the one for smoke cloud and barrier.

Hey thanks for the rules assist, I had been wondering the exact same thing. But to tell you the truth, this is a representation of Troia (and Wonder woman I guess) setting a physical barrier between themselves and others when they use their bracelets to deflect attacks. They can't really deflect attacks that are far away from them.

As silly as it sounds, all 4 barrier tokens have to be adjacent to Troia.
... and personally, I think Troia's barrier is useless... a waste of points.
Actually, only the first section of barrier has to be within their range. Directly from the FAQ: A clear line of fire is not required to use this ability. At least one Barrier marker placed must be within this character’s range.
That's how I have always played it and how I have always seen it played. Only the first square of barrier has to be in range, and you don't even need LOS to the square. A Barrier can be created anywhere within the figure’s range, whether or not it can see the space.
I know it says that it must create the Barrier adjacent to themselves, but isn't that only the first square? Am I wrong on this? Am I not interpreting the rule correctly?

Normally, you are correct. But characters with 0 range have a special limitation set on them. This is because the first square in the 0 range is the one in which the character is standing. And you can't place a Barrier or Smoke Cloud marker in a square containing a figure base or terrain feature.
And if you keep reading the FAQ, you will find the correct answer...

From DC FAQ - Barrier
Characters with 0 range with Barrier must create barriers adjacent to themselves.
