Welcome to the Forty Eighth thrilling installment of The Heroclix Roleplayers' Society! Chapter 10: The End of the World
Alan Scott has lead the hero's of earth in open rebellion against a Kree army more powerful than any ever seen before. Dr. Strange and his Cult of Strange have succeeded in awakening an ancient source of evil. Superman has been imprisoned, but Otto Octavius has taken his spot as the Superior Superman. The Guardians of the Galaxy have gone missing, and the Kree prepare to unleash a second wave of destruction to make the blast that leveled Gotham look like childs play! It's one minute till midnight, so grab your clix, your dice and brace yourself for Chapter 10: The End of the World!
Loki cast his stones on the table in front of him. They spoke of destruction on a scale Loki had never seen before. He cast them again. They spoke of a slightly different destruction, but destruction nonetheless. Loki angrily threw the stones back into their pouch.
“You’re wasting your time.” Loki’s companion spoke coming up to him. “We’ve been at it for month’s now, and they always tell you the same thing. Death. It’s why you brought me of all people here to help you.”
“True as that may be, the future is an ever changing construct. It requires constant observation in case we have altered it radically in our endeavors.”
“Loki, your pocket dimension here does not affect the flow of events back home. We can’t affect things there.”
“Perhaps not, but Warp has. Are you aware that Nightshroud freed the Batman?” Loki’s lip curled at his companion’s obvious ignorance.
“Bruce is free?” The companion said, alarmed. “Is he back to his normal self? Maybe he could help us,”
“How long until the fracture happens?” Loki asked, pushing the conversation forward.
“Well, the Kree have amassed at earth as we predicted. Strange is about to unleash the Sleeper and Phoenix is almost due for another breakdown.” Tony Stark ran some numbers through a program. “It should be happening any day now.”
“Is your legion ready to buy us the time we need?” Loki asked.
“Of course. The Beyonder Busters are ready to go. With the energy we have managed to siphon off of Thanos’s Black Gem, they should pack quite a punch.”
Loki stared back at Tony Stark. “Beyonder Buster? Surely you jest.”
“Not me. I prefer straightforward naming patterns.” Tony Stark commented.
“Well, I suppose Iron Man wasn’t a work of Shakespearian brilliance either. I’m going to go check on our guests.” Loki turned and headed to the infirmary. The past few months ran through his head. After the Kree had taken possession of the Beyonder and harvested his parts for their own sick ends, his stones had spoken of one thing: The complete destruction of everything. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Dr. Strange and Phoenix had become harsher and more vicious. Jean had gone from a white lantern to a black one. They wanted to grab as much power as they could to combat the Kree’s new Super Weapon, and they made plans to do so.
Loki opted out of this and returned to Battleworld. There he managed to return the hero’s to earth, save one. Tony Stark, his brother’s murderer, possessed a command over the mechanical realm unparalleled in the cosmos. Loki needed that understanding to lay the groundwork for his plan. With his command of the mystical, and Stark’s mastery of the physical, they commanded an impressive knowledge of the Universe as a whole. Though their experiments had shown them that they didn’t dwell in a Universe.
They dwelled in a Multiverse.
**********The Ruins of Gotham**********
Batman aided Gotham in the recovery effort. It was good to have his head cleared after months of that dark rage that filled it prior to his rescue by Warp and Nightshroud. Batman helped save those he could, but he did so with a heavy heart. The Kree had come, and their power was absolute. Nightshroud kept asking him what his plan was for the future. What he could do to stop the Kree. “Nothing.” Batman spoke, pulling a girl out from under the rubble. As an overlord, he had a plan. It had been brutal, and vicious, and exposed countless billions to execution. But it had a chance of creating a weapon they could fight back with. Bruce sighed heavily, moving on to the next victim. “Nightshroud, Warp.” He spoke into his com device. “I think the only chance for Earth is to side with the Kree.”
“Come now, Dark Knight.” A sly voice spoke. “That’s not the guardian of Gotham we all know and love.”
Batman spun on the spot to see the strangest group of hero’s he had ever seen. Loki stood next to Iron Man, and they were flanked by Wonder Woman, in her traditional Amazonian garb, and a shirtless figure wielding a massive axe that Batman belatedly realized was Thor.
“Get Warp and Nightshroud and come with me, time is of the essence.”
“Where?” Batman asked quickly.
“To Redemption.”
**********Deep below Arkham**********
The Cult of Strange stood chanting above an ancient seal. Strange spread his fingers wide, feeling the arcane bonds breaking one by one. The keys he had collected from the demon lords where doing their job as slowly but surely, the sleeper began to awake.
“Strange!” A voice called from across the room. The Coven of Delphi had located the mage at last. “Your plans will not come to fruition!”
“I see.” Strange rolled his eyes. “I have already succeeded. The sleeper will awaken, even if you kill me and my cult. It’s too late. With the keys in the lock, the only way he can be barred again is by my hand. And I don’t think I’ll be doing that.”
“Here.” Warp said, handing out coins to everyone. His sudden appearance was much less surprising than those he surrounded himself with. “We just need to touch Strange with a coin, it’ll reverse the corruption.”
“Who’s coin?” Baron Mordo asked.
Warp smiled “Who’s indeed!” Loki couldn’t be prouder in his agent.

Part 2: The Seige of New Oa
**********The Siege of New Oa**********
“The Audacity of these earthlings.” Agathon the Accuser said, angrily glancing over the reports that had come to his desk. Most of the world stood defiant against the Kree demands. There were exceptions. Japan had bowed before the Kree. As had large parts of Africa, Central America and South America. But Europe stood United against the Kree, as did Russia and The United States. “Do they not realize the strength we bear?”
“Doubtful, lord Agathon.” His counselor spoke. “Earth is a strange planet, and I have seen them stand against many foes. Even foes that have beaten back the Kree.”
“You speak of your former master, the mad Titan Thanos.” Agathon spoke firmly. “True he met his end here, but he was but one man. We are many, and our power is greater than Thanos’ black gem came close to being.”
“That is all true, my lord, but to the Earthlings, one world ending event must seem very much like the other. Destroying one city, and just one city, showed weakness. I advised from the start that you should have leveled all of the cities at once, and then invaded directly after.”
Agathon sighed heavily. “Perhaps we should have done that. But an opportunity to exert our dominance has revealed itself. Many of Earth’s champions have gathered in a space station they have named ‘New Oa’. They seem to think they are safe in space. Our forces will exterminate these heros, and then we will renew our message to the Earth below.”
“It will be as you say, my lord.” The Ebony Maw agreed.

Alarms blared as the station shook under the Kree onslaught. “To the escape pods!” somebody yelled as the hero’s broke off their defenses and made their way to the escape pods. The station groaned as the various facilities began to break off. Those who managed to escape felt enormous acceleration as their ships sought to return the survivors to earth. Unknown to all, the computers where subtly manipulated by subtle magic’s to bring all survivors to Arkham.
The Game is over.
Part 3: The Phoenix Unleashed
Jean Grey stood in the graveyard she had raided so many months ago. Her hunger was growing again. It would only be a matter of time until she had to feed again. To make matters worse, she was the last of the Overlords still standing. Superman was in captivity, Batman had been changed back as had Strange. Wonder Woman was missing, presumed dead in the destruction of Asgard. Miles above, Jean could tell that a war was being fought for the station the Hero’s had dubbed New Oa.
A tremor in reality.
Jean Grey’s attention turned to more local matters. In Arkham, something was stirring. The Phoenix force tied Jean Grey into the universe in a way few beings could match, but what was rising in Arkham rivaled, maybe even surpassed her connection.
The black Phoenix spread around her as she flew towards the small town in Massachusetts. She found her way bared by a group of curious individuals. A quick scan told her all she needed to know. These where the so called Guardians of the Galaxy. But they had curious companions. A smile spread across her face as she recognized the various members of the different lantern corps.
“You have assembled quite the rainbow,” She spoke to the assembled force. “Let me unite them under the black!” A burst of energy tore through the surrounding area as the full might of the Phoenix was brought to bear.
A fracture in reality.

Part 4: The End
The End
“53% of the way there.” Tony Stark told Loki, checking his sensor. It was happening exactly as they had calculated. “Right no track.”
“Yes…” Loki was distracted. Everything was happening as the stones had predicted so long ago. Events that initially seemed harmless were ramping up towards a final, cataclysmic confrontation. “Did you notice Alan Scott has been killed?”
“I did.” Stark answered. “He was a great man. One of the best of us.”
“Hardly.” Loki scoffed, coldly. “He was second tier at best. But he did have his moments. Ultron killed him, and has taken down several Kree battle cruisers. It’s funny that he’s popping up with hours to go, seeing as he was one of the first heralds.”
“Loki, sometimes I almost like you. But then…” Stark paused to collect his thoughts. “You really don’t care about anyone except yourself, do you?”
“Stark…” Loki spoke, anger flaring up in him. “I’ve sacrificed more than a mortal like you could ever dream of sacrificing. I have saved this world several times over, and if we live to see another sunrise, it will be by my hand.” Loki’s mind wandered to a beach in Themyscara hundreds of years ago. “And if I could achieve that while sacrificing myself, I would. Without a second though.” Bitterness ate inside him. For as long as he could remember, that bitterness was there. Bitter he wasn’t his brother. Bitter his love wasn’t reciprocated. Bitter his father would torture him for a thousand years. Bitter that mortals could interfere in his plans. Recently though, Loki had begun to let some of the bitterness slide, and found it freeing. After years of playing the hero, Loki found himself fond of the role.
He also found it amusing to see the heroes of earth struggling with if they should trust him or not.
“Well,” Stark looked flustered. “We better go. My calculations say if we can pull this off, we need everything, and everyone in Arkham.”
“I’ve gathered the heroes. The Elder God is awake. The Kree with the Beyonder power should be arriving any minute, and Phoenix has just touched down.”
Stark was momentarily speechless contemplating the raw power that was assembled. “I’ll get my metal suit.”

5: Kree Backup: Place an accuser next to the lowest point character on both players teams and have it make an immediate attack.

The Titan’s Battle: At the end of your turn, take an action with any character on Team 3.
As Do the Rabble: At the end of your turn, have all Kree and black lantern characters attack the character nearest them, or move them adjacent to a member of team 1 or 2.
Outcome: When one hero is left standing the game ends. I will be selecting one of the hero’s that survived for a… special role in the next ark. After the game is over, read the following:
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
The cracks in reality began to run, touching everything around them.
“99% and holding steady!” Tony Stark called to Loki as hero after hero fell in the battle. “This isn’t enough! It isn’t going to work!” Stark was then felled by a blast from the phoenix.
Loki looked around, watching the heroes fall, one after the other. “Odin’s beard, I can’t fail now.” Loki grumbled. This much raw power, it should be enough. Loki looked around and his eyes found a female figure, laying defeated on the ground. Next to her, was a familiar handle. Loki fealt a thrill run through him as he crawled over to the hammer that lay before him. “If he be worthy…” Loki muttered looking around the battlefield. He’d always wondered how Worthy was measured. He had tried two times prior to this. Once as a teenager, to show up his brother. Once more after freeing himself from the world tree to punish his father. Both times he had failed, and both times, that failure had cut him deep. This felt different.
Loki reached down and clasped the hammer. A surge of energy flowed through him. “Yes…” Loki muttered lifting the hammer from the ground. “I AM LOKI! THIS BATTLE ENDS NOW!” With a mighty bolt, Loki unleashed the full fury of Mjolnir, all the power of a dying star came flowing through him as his blast staggered a Beyonder Accuser. The burst of power destabilized everything. An alarm tingled near his feet.
“100%” Iron Man’s armor spoke. Loki grinned and cast a quick spell.
Reality Shattered.
**********The Middle of Doomwood**********
Clint Barton gradually came back to his senses. The last thing he remembered had been going toe to toe with what he thought may have been Cthulu. The Elder Beast had unleashed a massive wave of occult energy at him, and he had shot an arrow at it. Clint wondered if he was dead again. Opening his eyes, he saw a lush, if somewhat gloomy, forest around him.
“You breathe so loudly, I could have shot you in the dark.” A snarky, familiar voice called cooly. “Rise, stranger, and let yourself be judged.”
Clint stood up and looked around. His eyes locked on to a figure crouched in the shadows. The figures eyes went wide at the same time. He was looking at Clint Barton.
I hope this is nothing but "prophécy de malheur", but it feel like the hiatus has extended long enough on events that we are simply paddling while waiting for an event. While I understand and condone that real life trumps plastic toys and RP, could we get a word from Mikki as to what we should expect for HRPS? Is it rude to even ask? I was never very good an Internet Protocol.
Also wanted to respond to this. First off, anytime I miss an event deadline I feel terrible about it. I am extremely dedicated towards trying to create enjoyable missions and events and keep this awesome group alive. Admitatedly, I have a tendancy to promise more than I can deliver sometimes. What I can promise is that I won't miss an article deadline. I've been writing for about 2 years now and have never missed a deadline, even when I was deadtired and an emotional wreck after my first sons birth. So you can always count on an event and an update every other week.
The off week events, missions and whatever are things I try to keep up since this community is so active, but I will occasionaly get slammed with real life.
That's fair. I don't ask you to string yourself out. We share a profession and I understand very much the toll it takes (outside of family life and any other factors). This is why I no longer run events or DM in dungeons and dragons (or read, write or draw) anymore. My comment meant to ask what was proper and what was not. I care not for the frequency of the missions you offer, but for a simple "Can't do it right now".
All in all, I get it and am on your side, Mikki.
