Welcome back everyone to another Causing a Scene-ario!
It's that time of year again. We're coming up on the Summer Movie Season, so I thought we could look at some of them to see what might provide some fun scenarios!
Just released this weekend, is Ready Player One, based on the 2011 novel of the same name. This one is SUPER anticipated, so trying to do something with that may be a good idea. Now, I haven't read the book or seen the movie, but from recaps and such I've gathered, it's a dystopian future where most have escaped into a virtual world, populated by pop culture icons. The creator of the world called OASIS hid a massive easter egg that would turn control of Oasis to whoever finds it. Players have been searching for years, until one kid, our hero, stumbles on clues.
From what I've seen, the book and movie differ on the scenarios. In the book, The first quest is a remake of the D&D Module "Tomb of Horrors" with a Joust video game contest. The second quest is solving the text adventure "Zork", and the third is playing the first person shooter "Black Tiger" with an aspect of "Discovery" by Rush from the 2112 album.
The movie couldn't get some of the rights to some of the content, so instead, the first contest is a vehicle race, the second is surviving a recreation of a horror movie, and the final a confrontation at a castle on an alien planet. I believe this is where Iron Giant comes in. So, in a 3 round tournament, you could almost do some kind of battle royale, all players on one map scenarios. Each player could have a single figure as their avatar. Round 1 could be a street race. Round 2 as a horror movie, maybe a traditional battle royal in an indoor map with a lot of rooms. Round 3, each player would need a colossal.
Another movie in April is Rampage. This one is a little easier, each team requiring a colossal. Movie posters make it seem like The Rock teams up with the gorilla in some aspects. Lots of Soldier types should be involved. The point of the game is destroying buildings. You could allow Colossals to destroy elevated for points?
April's heavy hitter is obviously Avengers Infinity War. I have bigger ideas, so that'll get it's own article later in the month!
May looks just about as exciting:
Solo: Looks to be a heist movie. Your build requirements could involve a proxy for Han, Chewie and Lando. Flying vehicle for the Falcon?
Deadpool 2: Quite a bit of options here. We know Deadpool, Cable and Domino are the main characters. Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead are back. X-Force is formed. Appearances from Bedlam and shatterstar. For build, you could "Create your own X-Force" with a Domino, Deadpool or cable being required. The latest trailer shows that Cable is coming for a kid, so maybe a bystander or figure that each player can attempt to Capture or KO for extra points.
I hope that gives you a few ideas for games! Be on the lookout for some in depth looks at scenarios for some of these, especially once i've seen some!
See you next time, go out and Cause a Scene-ario!

Nice to see someone else interested in RP1 clix! I've been trying to generate interest in this since I made a mini-set for it a year and a half ago: READY PLAYER ONE GRAVITY FEED
You know, it's funny. While watching the final battle of the movie yesterday, I was thinking of clix and though.. huh... we already kind of have this as clix if you think about it.
